Hi Jenna!!! I love your videos. It truly makes me feel like I’m chatting with one of my girlfriends in class and getting in trouble for it. One of the finest joys in girlhood🦋🌷🍒💕
Two months ago I pulled a quarter and a long pink plastic pearl necklace for Barbie out of my sofa. They had to have been lodged in there from at least 1990, if not longer. This sofa was a hand me down from the formal dining room where we then kids weren't supposed to play in except for special occasions such as birthdays where we had a few tea parties with Barbies. Oh and I definitely had the dreamhouse and the corvette convertible for Barbie. And Ken could visit, just like in the movie, haha.
I had the same dream house you’re talking about. My fav part was the clock that folded down. I found it in my moms garage about a year ago but it was only half of it. The case closed up but I’m missing the floor of a room! I hope i find it somewhere in the house at some point! I brought it to my apt for safe keeping.
Oh heyyy, I'm caught up! I've spent the summer binge-listening allllll the episodes. I was born in 1980 so the nostalgia hits different, but the memories always come flooding back!
Hi Jenna! 2004 graduate here so your videos definitely bring the nostalgic feels 😊 I had the same Barbie house as you but the older yellow version. It was a hand me down from my sister's friend but omg Barbie was such a big part of my life growing up! Probably why I was and am obsessed with clothes! The mermaid Barbie was one of my favorites, it was her hair that would change color! I took her to the beach (grew up on the central coast CA) one day and she lost her bikini top to the waves 🤭 my sister got me the brunette Totally Hair Barbie for Christmas in 92 and I loved her so much, would crimp my hair to look like her 😂 Great job with your videos and these podcasts, it's funny that our 90's and 2000's experiences were so similar!
Don't forget when Barbie was an Olympic gymnast. That was when Matel decided to make her joints movable. I remember hearing for years that people had issues with Barbie because of an unrealistic body image. I can understand that perspective. But I think that's why the company made her be so many things. This way girls could see that you could be attractive, but also achieve these great things. The reality is that there will always be outlets and figures with unrealistic body images and standards. Look at so many shows that have come and gone where the actresses were built like sticks with hair. And look at what the Kardashians have been doing for years in terms of body image. If Barbie never existed these issues would exist anyway. At least Barbie has the potential to be seen as a positive combination of beauty and brains.
I loved Midge because she was the closest thing to a red haired Barbie. As a red haired little girl I identified with Midge, and I had California Dream Midge from 1988
All the Barbie dream houses now are very cheaply made and mostly cardboard backing and don’t really hold up well if you move them at all and then I have toys that my mom gave me from her childhood from Barbie. They’re so solid and I am perfect condition and they have wind up elements to make the record player go and the blender work little things that they never do now or if they did, they would operate through a battery or something that would, but it’s really hard to say when you wanna play with that I still have some of the McDonald’s Barbie toys my daughter played with them and there is a band that’s redone the song Barbie girls so it’s more appropriate for kids to listen to and just has a healthier message overall so it still lives on in our house

We had the hot skate Barbie and would light up her skates like a cigarette lighter. We were so cool 😂😂😂

In the early 2000’s as a kid I collected Kelly dolls.
Beetlejuice beetlejuice - I enjoyed but parts were so random
