- A question I get asked all the time is “how do I clean up a room that’s piled full of random stuff without getting overwhelmed?” Today I want to show you my exact step-by-step process for decluttering a messy space in phases.
This is part one of two of the series, and today we are focusing on removing trash, rehoming things that don’t belong in the space, and categorizing the things that need storage.
Be sure to subscribe to my channel and turn on notifications so you see Part 2 when it’s available. That’s when we will organize the room and talk about maximizing storage space.

I have ADHD and have a hard time trying to figure out how to start. I really like the steps you listed.
I'm so glad this is helpful for you!
I love the expression on the wee cats face when he/she realises there is now space on the bed and the chest of drawers. 🐈⬛
He has officially claimed this bed as his own. He sleeps in here every day. 🥰
So motivating, really needed this for my sewing room. One little bit at a time. Thank you Lela!
You’re very welcome! You’ll feel so good once you get the room back in working order. 🥰
Great energy and sound advice!!
Thank you!
Hey! Just waiting for part 2:)
We decided to save up for a Murphy bed with storage for the room so it’s taking a little while. Sorry for the delay! 🥰
I just found your Channel and I am in love with it ! Better than it all! I swear! New subscriber here and a fan of your style and faithful to your Chanell. Congratulations for your contents and all the kitchen cookware that I discovered in your Channel. Love from Quebec 🇨🇦
Thank you so much for subscribing! I’m so glad you’re here and I hope you get lots of ideas to try in your own home. 🖤
This was helpful, thank you. Is Part 2 still coming?
So glad you like it! Yes, Part 2 is coming. We ended up moving some different furniture in the room and they need modification before I can organize them. It ended up being a bigger project than we planned, but hopefully we will get the room done this month. 🥰
Perfect. My guest room is a mess! And with Thanksgiving coming I know I will need to get it somewhat organized.
Happy to help you get motivated!
When my craft room became a debris field with a path kicked thru the center, I took drastic measures. Everything was tossed into big storage totes and moved out of the room. Bags, boxes, drawers, everything. The room was deep cleaned, the walls painted, and all the 'holders' were placed where I wanted them and the totes were sorted one at a time. I did the trash-donate-keep thing as I went. The whole process took about 5 days. There was no resorting of kept items, they went right to their new spots. It felt like moving house but I didn't go anywhere, lol.
Oh I love a good ruthless declutter session! I bet it felt so good to get it all out. 🙌🏼
Great video and advice Lela, thanks for the motivation. 🙏🏻
Thank you Sheila! I’m so glad it’s helpful for you. We can do this together! 🙌🏼
Define what trash is that you're removing. (9 not worn clothes in the last 5 years or what?) I need some structure presented to go to 1-3 or abc? Before t
Removing! Thanks
Trash is paper, packaging, etc that goes in a trash can/recycling. Clothes you want to donate would be during step two. You’ll set up a donate box for you to drop things in as you go through each section.
I just want to pay you to organize my home. seriously.
If I were close I would definitely help you. 🥰
Very good but I spent too much time watching declurtering and not new conclusions
Stay tuned for part two, we will organize the room and add more storage then. 🥰
The way you hold the pen to write is not the best. It forces your wrist and pressures the hand, but nowadays nobody corrects it. As for your video, very helpful tips. Thank you.
As a 36 year old woman, I think the pen grip is set in stone. 😅
