    TIME STAMPS:
4:31 -- Kid talks about a party in Queens where he and Play first met each other, Kid performing there and the confused looks on people's faces when they saw who was barring out on stage. They go on to discuss Kid's parents, his being born to a Jamaican father and Irish mother, his grandparents not approving of his mother's relationship, his father taking on single fatherhood after Kid's mother died in a car accident when he was 9 and they explore the differences of how people of mixed-race heritage are treated within black and white communities. They also dig into how Kid's own life so closely resembles the stories from House Party and Class Act as well as how Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff were supposed to originally have the star roles in House Party.
13:18 -- Kid speaks on John Witherspoon, his small but memorable role in House Party, how he would always make the best of every opportunity as well as him teaching Kid about less being more. Kid goes on to tell some hilarious stories about comedian Robin Harris who plays his dad in House Party and expresses how grateful he is for the moments spent with these icons who left us far too soon. Kid goes on to talk about how he and Play linked up while performing in rival high school groups, forming the Fresh Force Crew and Hurby Luv Bug eventually entering the scene. They also discuss Kid, Play and Martin Lawrence all working at Sears together, starting out as back-up dancers for Salt-N-Pepa and Dana Dane paving the way for the rest of Hurby's crew.
23:52 -- Kid gets into Kid 'N' Play's song 'Last Night' about attending a show at Union Square hosted by DJ Alert. They discuss the impact of DJ Red Alert on the culture, the love that Alert showed the group from the start and how the song is a prime example of art manifesting a dream come true. They also discuss Kid 'N' Play being at the center of how rhyme schemes were evolving at the time, Hurby Luv Bug being a true technician on the beats as well as his being an underappreciated legend with a great vision and an ability bring out the best in all the artists he brought on. Kid also goes on to tell a story of Hurby attempting to shut down a concert featuring Salt-N-Pepa impersonators.
35:27 -- Kid speaks on the song 'Rollin' With Kid 'N Play', it's infusion of Go-Go music and how they came up with the iconic hook. They discuss Kid feeling their first album '2 Hype' was their best, what their DJ The Wizard M.E. meant to the group, rapper LeShaun's song 'Wild Thang' using the same 'Jamaican Guy' Grace Jones sample as their song 'Undercover', what was on his mind when he penned the rhymes for that track, why he wanted to use the sample and Real Roxanne being brought in to feature on the track when they couldn't get Salt. They also dig into the Ripple sample used for 'Rollin' With Kid 'N Play' and why Kid sometimes thinks of his songs like his children.
45:24 -- Kid talks about him and Play coming up with all their iconic dance moves by experimenting during their early club hopping days all over the city and how when it came time to do House Party the moves were second nature. They also discuss what happened when Talib recently tried Kid's jump through the leg move, Kid's childhood years of being fearless while coming up with these and his surprise of their longevity. They go on to talk about 2Pac often hanging out with Kid and Play on tour while he was a dancer for Digital Undergound, his eagerness to jump on a mic, always being down to regulate on some bootleggers and how Kid N Play was the perfect counter-balance to all the hardcore groups like N.W.A. and Public Enemy that they would tour with.
57:27 -- Kid goes on to tell a story of Flava Flav wylin out on a hotel lobby piano. They also discuss the group Full Force starring as the bullies of House Party and writer/director Reggie Hudlin giving them full freedom to adlib all their lines throughout the film. They discuss the legacy of A.J. Johnson and some of the things he and Kid would get into during their spare time, a bizarre tribute song sent to Kid online and Talib brings up a story he heard about 2Pac telling Play he couldn't handle two girls at one time. They go on to talk about the courses Play was teaching at HBCUs and what Kid had heard from the students that took his classes.
1:08:34 -- Kid digs into how Reggie Hudlin originally had the group Groove B Chill in mind to play the main characters in House Party. Kid talks about the feelings he experienced after finding out Daryl "Chill" Mitchell became paralyzed from the waist down after a motorcycle crash, Daryl's amazing perseverance through it all and Kid finding inspiration through his strength. Kid also tells about a prescreening of House Party they did for some high school kids in Newark and getting a kick out of their reactions. They also talk about why the House Party soundtracks never sounded right due to the label heads not being on the same page and only being interested in maximizing profits.
1:17:53 -- Kid goes on to talk about recognizing the genius of Chris Tucker early on, getting him casted in House Party 3 and feeling that small scene is what got him the role of Smokey in Friday. Kid also talks about his hosting a TV talent show called 'Your Big Break', how much he loves doing stand-up, an off-stage encounter with Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def when he went into a flawless impression of Ray Jay, Immature being the lead characters of House Party 4 and how that installment deviated completely from the original storyline. Kid also talks about how he and Play almost refused to cameo in the film, how he felt when he was asked to be a part of House Party 5 and what his feelings are on Lebron James' upcoming House Party reboot.
1:30:09 -- Kid is asked about the album cover for Kid N Play's 1991 album 'Face The Nation'. He tells about that being a confusing time for him and Play as well as the album being an awakening for him that it was time to take a break from his rap career. They also discuss Kid doing the theme songs for the Martin show as well as Real Time With Bill Maher, convincing Bill to use that music for his stage entrances, Kid's love of improv comedy and the genius of comedians Earthquake as well as Jamie Kennedy. Kid also talks about the fun he had opening up for Insane Clown Posse, what they told him about people throwing things on stage at their concerts and Kid talks about looking forward to the 2022 90's tour he'll be on.
1:41:30 -- Kid speaks on dissing Uncle Luke and Vanilla Ice on 1991's 'Next Question'. He tells about the original diss songs that sparked theirs, the the punch back from Luke on his song titled 'Pussy Ass Kid And Hoe Ass Play' as well as how the beef was finally squashed. They go on to talk about the movie Class Act mirroring Kid 'N' Play's real life friendship, the film aging well over the years and the 'hair drama' that unfolded between Kid and the producers of the film when he wanted to lose his high top fade. He also talks about the Dominican barber that became famous for cutting Kid's hair, garnering himself the nickname 'The Doctor'.
1:55:36 -- Kid goes on to talk about his company KidNBlaze born from his desire to create a brand that would cover the full scope of the cannabis market. They also talk about the artistic genius of Play, the two of them always being fully aware of the strengths that they both brought to the table and how that would end up translating to success for everyone. Kid is also asked what he has coming up next. He speaks on still getting excited for every opportunity that presents itself, his soon going on tour to open for Bill Maher, still getting anxiety at times on stage and he expresses his appreciation for how Talib has handled himself over the course of his career.

And It's so nice to hear him drop knowledge, and talk about so many topics and his own history.

The negative effects of the industry shift in hip hop are still lingering today

Absolutely right...those images and stereotypes helped to set up black Americans reputations.
For too many years, people have only seen that side of us because they never actually deal with any blacks in real life.
The worst part is a lot of us have bought into that portrayal of negativity and emulated it.

These two brothers (both Kid and Play), they're irreplaceable in both the pantheon and history of Hip Hop. They provided us with a classic Black comedy that made quite a few faces forever recognizable, they were a force for Hip Hop dancing, they had a swag before America was using the word like we do today and they knew what fun was about. They struck a balance in culture and I would even say created a space. The funniest thing is, word on the streets was Play was a pretty tough guy, but he didn't leave that as his legacy, which is admirable. They chose to be entertainers and were great at it.
I'm glad to see Kid still has his spirit after a not so smooth life. Still funny I'm betting he can still dance and he is still here. Thanks for celebrating him while he's here or as Drink Champs says "giving them their flowers", but individually. 👑👑✊🏿
