Thank you for bringing back childhood memories I use to walk from E22 Street cross the draw bridge don't remember the name to KMart and McD on the other side of the bayou back in 1983.
Thx forbthe footage, I lived in Golden meadows while working katrina, hauled dirt out of there to grandi sle, was neat to see things I was familiar with and the shrimp boats I bought shrimp from
I grew up here in the early 80's I'm trying to find 22nd Street. Saw the Batoon bridge and church on the left my uncle laid to b rest there behind the church
East 22nd St would be on the other side of the bayou off of LA-308. There doesn’t appear to be a West 22nd Street. It jumps from 23rd to 21st, but if it existed, it would be at the 12:34 mark.
Looking closer at the map, the street numbers don’t line up on the sides of the bayou. East 22nd St would be directly across the bayou at the 12:01 mark.

i live there and the pontoon bridge i feel is getting closer to the end of its life span. Just like all the other pontoons on the bayou it would probably be closed or torn down soon
Yes. You don’t speed through Golden Meadow. LA-1 has a 25 MPH speed limit through town. It used to be the only way to get through Golden Meadow. About 25 years ago, they built a 4-lane highway to bypass the town and it has a 45 MPH limit. But you still don’t speed on it.
@@504RoadTrips I've been ticketed for 27 in a 25 on the old road and pulled over for drinking a can of Barq's root beer on the new road, they thought it was a Coors light silver bullet. When they saw it was only a root beer, they searched my truck determined to find something.
This is most remarkable, being surrounded by water on two sides on the level of the road itself and seeing this gallery of bridges, including that poor pontoon bridge out of service. Hope they reopen it soon.
I don't think I've been back down there since filming this video, so I don't know if the pontoon bridge is back in service. They've replaced most of them with big lift bridges now.
cayvon anselmi my guess is that every time it breaks, it get a little closer to the end of its life. If they need parts, they probably have to have them specially fabricated. At some point, it’s more cost effective to replace it with a modern bridge.
thanks for sharing the information and posting the names of the bridges over the Bayou that you pass along the way. also, did not know Ed Orgeron was from that area...
Also could be because of the constant tropical storms/hurricanes that flood the area. You'll need something higher off the ground to reach certain areas.
I used to live there, from 1981 to 1985. I haven't been back there for long time. What happen to the pontoon bridge? Do they still exist?. I remember Golden Meadow used to be speed trap town. I need to take a road trip back to memory lanes. I encountered a lot of racist when I'm lived in La Rose Cut Off town. There were some good people. I can't believed I live in this country almost 40 years. Thanks for posting your video trip.
The bridge pictured in the thumbnail of this video is pretty new. The first time I had seen it was a couple of years ago...maybe on this trip. I believe there used to be a pontoon bridge just to the south of LaRose which was eliminated. I don't believe there are any left south of Hwy 90.
I’m not sure on this one. This is from years ago. At the time, I hadn’t figured out a formula for that sort of thing. It was just sort of whatever I felt like doing at the time.
I don’t know, but I would guess the people who live in the little towns along the bayou would have protested. There not much on 3235. Everything is on LA-1. For a long time, 3235 was incomplete and the locals tried to keep it secret because it was their shortcut to get through Golden Meadow at a higher speed. Once the new Walmart opened in Galliano, and 3235 was extended north of 3162, it wasn’t a secret anymore. I guess 3235 has been complete for 20 years now, so it’s surprising that nothing like that has been attempted.

Absolute legend driving all that way
I hear Golden Meadow is a speed trap... They were talking about on Mississippi SuperTalk today.

504Road trips: THEY SOULD DO THIS ROUTE AGAIN. THE LOOKS OF AFTER HURRICANE IDA OF AUGUST 2021 !!!!
I plan to take a ride down there this summer. I didn’t want to go down there to sightsee too soon after the hurricane.
Im from Golden Meadow and I currently live near Thibodaux
I saw my childhood home and school

In the process of researching all of that, I even added some new Wikipedia articles about a few of the bridges down there.
I saw my house at 2:14 (left side-big tree)
Just about every vehicle there is a truck kinda crazy
I guess the industries that people work in down there demand it. Although you tend to see that all over southeast Louisiana.
