The versatility of this thing is unmatched. All the other boxes tend to accel at one thing; either recording or playing live. This one does it all phenomenally. Been using one live for about a year and amount of compliments I've gotten on my tone has increased ten fold. Obviously this doesn't inherently give you better tone, but if you've got good gear, it allows you to dial in the exact tone you want send consistently use it. Doesn't give you better tone, it allows you to unlock the full potential of your existing tone
Excellent comparison. For me the effects loop is what I care most about. I can put all my post gain pedal effects after both the preamp and power amp. Used in conjunction with an amp and cab switcher it gives me the ultimate studio set up.
I have both and before the 1.2 update for the OX, the TAE was the clear winner for PLAYING LIVE. In the studio, the OX box has always been the best unit IMO but now that we can footswitch delay and compressor for a solo boost, gigging with the OX is great. I would say that the midi control and maybe the amp channel switching capabilities of the TAE could make it a better device for some users who do rely on midi switching (I myself have used my morningstar controller to do this with the TAE and a couple other midi devices and it works great) but at the end of the day, you're still relying on 1 impulse response with the TAE and its extremely limited reverb/delay/eq capabilities where the OX cab simulation just sounds and feels SO much better and more natural, the speaker and cabinet and mic selection offer a better selection of sounds on the fly and the effects of the OX are light years better in quality.
Does anyone else feel like they’re watching a cut scene from The Martian? Who knew Matt Damon brought his guitars with him and has such great blues chops.
I bought my Boss TAE a couple of years ago, and use it all the time. After the early years of buying load boxes and power breaks that really sucked the tone, I got rid of them and just used to turn the volume down on my Fender 59 Bassman at gigs or at home. When the first TAE reviews came out I couldn't wait to buy one. It is exactly what I needed, to crank the amp and keep the volume down. The adjustable reactive load controls on the TAE front panel match the output impedance of whatever amp you are using, giving you the tone and thump of your amp at reduced volume levels. But also there's also the ability to connect straight into a DAW and record the exact sounds of your guitar through the valve amp. I don't bother with amp sims that take too much messing about to sound right for me. The effects loop sounds ok, but I never had one on my amps, so I don't use it. I just plug the pedal board into the amp input as if I was at a gig, and it sounds perfect. The built in 100 watt power amp could be useful for some I guess, if you don't mind lugging an extra 100 watt cabinet to the gig. There's heaps more features on this TAE which you can read about in the manual, which can be downloaded from the Boss website free of charge, in case you loose yours Haha.
That's a really good question. I'm not sure and I no longer have the ox. I'm sure out of the box the ox does. After some tweaks the tube expander probably could.
Hello, dear friend, I have a question, maybe you can help me. I haven't been able to decide for a long time which is better for me whether to buy the waza amp or the ox box for home recordings. I have an old Marshall amp so that on the one hand the waza can fit but on the other hand the aux box also looks cool. I am no longer appearing today, if you could recommend me, what do you think, thanks
I personally use PCs for computers and I like the options that the waza has. It also sounds great once you dive into the settings. That being said if you use Mac and just want great sound out of the box I'd probably go ox box.
I also use a PC computer. I hope the waza will be good for both my Marshall amp and recordings. If Heitzi is sure that the waza will be like the ox in the recordings then Heitzi is not thinking too much
@@Avim111 sweet as long as you're ok going in to tweek the cab sims you'll like the waza more I think. I've only played through a friend of mines ox box and I wasn't over impressed with the sound but I've tweaked my waza a bit. His ox sounded great was still running factory presets. The waza factory presets are not killer until you tweek them.
I thought it sounded great. I did have to lower the mix on my delay because it was more wet. But I think I just need to take a look at the settings in the manual... If I can find it.
@@guitartris8455 thanks! I’ve been considering this unit for a while, and the whole “FX Loop sucks” deal turned me off. I guess I’ll have to try it in person with my rig. Thanks!
It should be noted the Boss tube expander is the about the same price as the ox box. Actually right now the OX is $100 cheaper. And it works with windows too
Boss and UA making great stuff right now. Probably the reason the Ox has Become obligatory is that their cab modeling is unrivaled. Something not discussed in this video. Also, they’ve lowered their price recently.
No worries, you certainly have the better device. Not sure why the Ox is getting so often bad reviews while on the other hand you see it regularly in the background of RUclips videos on guitar gear and on stage.

The TAE outputs line level while most mixing board/stage box XLR ports expect mic level. In my opinion, they should standard and only use TRS for line level and XLR for mic level… but well, all digital modeler guitarists want XLR (without wanting to differentiate output level use case) 😂
@@JZ-Sounds yeah, it's no biggie, just need to take 10 minutes to make up an XLR-TRS cable, sigh. I'm kinda surprised noone whinges about the Ox digital outs only being 44.1Khz? That one irritates me beyond belief.

Solid points! Yeah it's been a while since I've used it and a lot has changed, I'll have to get some new gear and do another video.

Thanks. It would be nice but I have seen anything about an updated one and it's needed 5 or 6 years
