As a professional photographer/videographer I’d suggest that you always check with the owner or manager before filming in their store. It will go along way to improving your reputation and open more doors for you in the long run.
I’m an avid guitar enthusiast, I’ve bought great guitars and pedals over the years from pawn shops for fractions of retail cost, that was a shady dude Mr Money
Mr Money is gonna be Mr Broke with that attitude. He’s entitled to decline to give his permission, but you know what, I seriously wouldn’t buy anything from a store where the owner is that suspicious and paranoid. It implies he’s worried about the stock appearing online. I’d immediately assume it was stolen, even if it isn’t.
You assume he's shady because he doesn't want you to film, that his stuff might end up online (like a drop-shipper marking up someone else's stock as their own perhaps?), but you never consider he might think 2 scruffy looking guys filming in his store in a high crime area might be shady? Interesting! No one ever considers the other guy's perspective today. It's all about me.
Leonard, neither of their approaches did anyone of them a favor. If they clearly stated intent and asked permission before filming and all he showed was that attitude, I'd wholeheartedly agree, but both men dropped the ball I feel.
DJ Dale it’s clearly stated at the start that he had explained it to the girl serving behind the counter. Guess there’s a lesson in there to check who you’re talking to.
man, i really wish i lived in the US, the only pawnshop we have in the UK is cash converters and all they have there are offbrand or cheap brands. any time there's something half decent, they want to charge more than the retail price for it
I used to live in Frankfort 25 years ago. Bardstown road was the shit! Me and my friend would alternate weekends between Louisville and Lexington to go to music stores. But Bardstown road had it all. Guitar Emporium, Bass world, Music go round, Electric lady land, and a comic book store. And believe it or not a Taco Bell. that was a big deal.
I went to a pawn shop in Cookeville, TN years ago and I was friendly, and the owner just kept walking up behind us going "can I HELP YOU with anything?" I had no idea he was putting out a vibe of "GTFO of my shop". His shop had a drive through window. I'm almost positive it was just a front for selling drugs or stolen stuff. Went out of business a few years later IIRC.
Can I just chime in on the shots being taken at the first store owner...sure, he sounds paranoid as all hell...and didnt handle it well...but....Ive workd in a second hand/pawn shop selling music gear. We once had some teens come in supposedly filming a youtube show on pawn shop deals. Not specific to instruments, just anything.... They were interested in certain items like power tools, bikes and some music gear and seemed legit...... But....a couple of weeks later, the store was ripped off. Most of the items those kids showed interest in had been gathered and stolen.....just coincidence? No. They were later caught red handed with the gear. The same guys who had been 'filming' were actually casing the shop out for their raid. You can't assume anyrhing. The owner might have had a similar experience. Just saying.
The thing about pawn shops is they often will get a good enough deal on stuff and if it lingers around, they will get the itch to just unload it at a modest profit, then you're good. Who wants to deal with ebay or Reverb returns or fees or boxing shit up and driving to and from the Fed Ex store?
I agree with The Guitologist, wait (if possible), bide your time so to speak, they will eventually get tired of sitting on, and you might be able to get more than a few bucks off that nice guitar you been looking at for 6 months at the pawn shop! Not much chance at my local shop, guitars usually don't stay that long here, and very few real nice guitars as well! 🤷
If you look hard enough ,you can still get lucky -- my 90 year old father, a real flea market - garage sale veteran found a78 Les Paul custom "black beauty" in fantastic condition three years ago for $160 dollars at a thrift village in Daly City -- it was missing a knob and a couple of bridge saddles and he convinced them it was a copy (obviously they knew nothing about guitars) .My wily brother has since absconded with it , but that is another story.
First place you went made me think why he was so paranoid....? Then I thought about the scenes in Pulp Fiction at the army surplus....lol,rofl,rofl,rofl!! 8-] I'm glad you made it out of there!!!..lol

There are tons of Google reviews of that first place saying that that dude flips out any time someone pulls out a phone to check prices. Apparently he accuses them of taking pics of his merchandise. Definitely a great way to ensure you don't get repeat customers. 😂
I've been dealing, trading, buying and selling guitars and amps for 30 years. I rarely find good deals in pawn shops. They are way down on my list of places to look.
About 25 years ago I found my first guitar at a small pawn shop in Tucson, AZ. It was a brown strat body not sure if it was a Fender body it was kinda thick. Very solid. Black pick guard and a Guild neck and headstock. 3x3. $100 bucks. Stayed in tune forever. Had to sell it for moving money.
Store manager "don't put pictures of things from my store on the internet" The rightful owners may recognise them and I will have to give them back Hot property according to local law enforcement Come along Tubbs We didn't burn him !
You can make quite a little bit of side money taking pics of merchandise at pawn shops and second-hand stores, listing it online for slightly more, and shipping it to buyers.

This is great, considering I can't leave my home to do this!! Hope all is well with your family.
A nice nod towards league of Gentleman. "you heard the man Tubs, get undressed"!😉
Are you local?
DJ Dale I don’t assume he’s shady, but others will. I’m sure he’s got his reasons, but my point is that his approach doesn’t do him any favours.
Guess there’s a lesson in there to check who you’re talking to.
man, i really wish i lived in the US, the only pawnshop we have in the UK is cash converters and all they have there are offbrand or cheap brands. any time there's something half decent, they want to charge more than the retail price for it
Last time I was in England, I bought a guitar at a thrift store to knock around on. Sold it before I left to a Cash Converters for more than I paid.
In Philadelphia, it's worth 50 bucks
Are you just casually going to pawnshops with THE TJ Armstrong? lol love your channel

Smart store owner/manager there. 😎👏👍
sickb2200 yeah I thought that too...very slick move to ask for a mention. But I would have replied “yeah I will if you mention some discount” lol
League of Gentlemen clip! Yeah!
Yes...
Talk to the managers of the or the store owner..
About filming in a store.
For future reference less drama attached.
And believe it or not a Taco Bell. that was a big deal.
jeeze its friday already. lol great vid thanks Bevis An Buthead
Awesome reference to League of Gentleman!
Gun guitars girls and gears.. nice job fellas
@Arli Zan Agreed. I said he handled it badly. I was just offering another viewpoint
So, filming caused the theft? Why would the filming matter? Seems to me you’d have to have known they were thieves to begin with...
Not to mention our two anti-heroes looked so joe average they just must be up to something. If you know what I mean.
The league of gentlemen clip was well used
Love hunting for guitars. Getting harder to find a great deal since everyone Google's the value now.
Tell that to the guy I bought a 70s epiphone Wilshire for 25 bucks. Best guitar I bought.
I'm glad you made it out of there!!!..lol
Creepy Pawn shop dude didn't want you filming because people might recognize the hot items he's selling.
He thought that you were going to take photos of his guitars and then illegally sell them on line!
Pawn shop paranoia = stolen goods. 😁
Exactly, I went to a pawnshop for a guitar once and a woman came in with a phone she found on a bus and asked for them to reset it and sell it
@@stee8613 Found on a bus is key word for snatched from someone purse haha
Pawn shop gear crawls can be fun.. and sometimes you can find great stuff. I have a mid 70's Carvin twin amp with a 7-band eq on the panel well under $100
Should have bought the Fender Tele Deluxe was a great player, Fender case, I went home to sleep on it next day was sold. $500
Most people dont like potential Stolen Items filmed in case the actual owner sees their property on RUclips.
There are tons of Google reviews of that first place saying that that dude flips out any time someone pulls out a phone to check prices. Apparently he accuses them of taking pics of his merchandise. Definitely a great way to ensure you don't get repeat customers. 😂
My guess is that 1st pawn shop dude may have been selling drugs out of the back room🤣 paranoid!
and stolen goods out of the front room

Wow your friend can play bass guitar really good really really good man that is awesome he is awesome hey thank you for sharing
You should give credit to your videographer ... Michael J Fox.
Great stuff guys, I am always stopping by the local Pawn Shops in Tucson looking for Bass deals.
I suspect that the guy had some illegal activities going on in the back.
and stolen goods in the front...
I love to click on the advertisement that runs before your episode. It’s my way of saying I love you
Is that the same TJ that plays bass for Johnny Hiland? If so, he's a monster bass player.
The lesson here is....ALWAYS shop local. Entertsining video, though. Thanks, Brad!
I've been dealing, trading, buying and selling guitars and amps for 30 years. I rarely find good deals in pawn shops. They are way down on my list of places to look.
I totally agree! Pawn shops usually like overcharging for guitars in very poor condition.
What are you suggestions to one for places to look?
Id recommend Middletown Traders. Super nice lady.
Thanks for the tip!
I thought that the youtubers talked to the managers of businesses before they started filming to avoid what happened at the first shop.
he probably forgot
@@Anthonybrother forgot.. yes..
I doubt earlier introductions would have helped in that situation, the guy was just a dick.
Store manager "don't put pictures of things from my store on the internet"
The rightful owners may recognise them and I will have to give them back
Hot property according to local law enforcement
Come along Tubbs
We didn't burn him !
You can make quite a little bit of side money taking pics of merchandise at pawn shops and second-hand stores, listing it online for slightly more, and shipping it to buyers.
Lots of fun. Thanks for the ride
That pawn shop owner know's he has stolen goods in his store.
I found a 1963 Gibson es 335 at a pawn shop in Thomasville NC. I got it for 1800.00. What a find!
Hey man, that Peavy Chorus 400 amp aint bad at all. I had one, A pedal steel sounds great through it....
I know. Those are nice amps, and roadworthy too.
I have a classic chorus 212 which is a relative of the chorus 400 and it’s killer.
Enjoyed the tours! Best pawn shops I ever found were across the street from casinos in Biloxi and Reno! lol!
I guess we know who is slingin' coke out of the back room. "Can I get some of that buffing compound?" 😋
I'd love to see more of these guitar pawn shops video
Makes ya wonder if any of those guns were used to kill anybody. I'm betting yes. Lol. Great video Brad! How did you resist karate chopping that dude in the larynx?
I would have aimed for the coccyx.
@@TheGuitologist 😂
I really enjoy these posts Brad thank you bro.
Maybe the first place was a local shop for local people
June Rigler haha so true 😂😂
Although it does seem like they're always building a road around here.
@@TheGuitologist LOL
You could easily fix that bowl back mando. With the correct application of crushed noodles and superglue any hole can be fixed!
Decent prices on that Japanese p bass and the Peavey 2x12 amp
Niceee Supra bro, Mk3 gang✊🏻
Guitar shopping at pawn shops: NOPE.
Pawn shop guy: I kNoW wHaT IvE gOt. Lol
10:53 The Suzuki rip off of the Takamine rip off of the Martin lol
This is fun. You should come to Albuquerque. Our pawn shops have been around since I was a kid. I’m 74.
At 54 I've spent a lot of time dealing with customers. I am a bringer of internet, TV and phone. It doesn't take long to figure out what type of person you are dealing with. Less than 2 minutes into the video and I would put that guy into the Richard Head category. Worse part is that he's not the customer. You would think that he would be like "sure, look around and ask me if you have any questions". Instead he went all Gibson on you... Sounds like the old coot has mangina issues.
"Went all Gibson on you" I like it
Guitar center in Lexington offered me $60 for a $1k guitar, same guitar at Dans Pawn in Richmond offered $150 for it! I would usually say pawn shops make low ball offer's, but now I say stay away from Guitar Center, they will rip you off with no remorse! 🤧
