Carving a little Oasis out of the Karoo Mountains | Biedouw Valley Jai Yen Yen Bush Pub & Camping

Welcome to Uitspankraal, situated in the Biedouw River Valley, a beautifully remote region that comes to life during the flower season. Hillsides of wild Namaqualand daisies line the single dirt road leading to the confluence of the Biedouw and Doring rivers. Here you will find Jai Yen Yen, a place where you can 'uitspan' (literally meaning to unharness the yokes of the oxen pulling your ox wagon).
Jai Yen Yen is a little oasis for the weary traveller in this dry and unforgiving landscape. Somewhere to chill and take in the quiet surroundings. Stargaze, bird watch, hike or grab your bike and explore the trails. There is even a 'beach' along the Doring River, the result of the seasonal flooding and recent (2023) superflood. This also makes the river crossing undriveable, so you may be forced to turn around and hang out at Kyle's place. No hardship, with wild camping and a chill bush pub at hand to serve you a cold one after a long hot day in the saddle!
This old abandoned farm is being brought back to life as a low-impact, eco-minded destination. A place to which to escape from the city for a couple of days. Highly recommended for the overlander, dirt biker and wandering (flower) tourists.
