Made in Japan policy is the pursuit of perfection. It is compassion and support for those who complete their best work.
That’s what attracts me to these tools and other made in Japan items. Many Japanese companies and their workers try their very best to produce the best they can. It’s evident so many of their products. A truly wonderful and admirable characteristic!
They claim that Bacho 1/4 in ratchet is the same exact thing snap-on. While I don't have any snap-on ratchets. I do have Bacho, Koken and craftsman. I have found that the Koken is by far the best and that has to do everything with the almost zero back drag. I've recently replaced my probably 1980 early 90s Craftsman ratchets 1/4 to 1/2 in. However the back dragon is almost the same in the Chinese Craftsman to the Koken. While I have not taken the Bacho apart yet and removing the factory grease and adding some gun oil. I'll probably do the same thing to the Craftsman to see what the difference is on all of them. There's yet another brand that I've already ordered a couple ratchets from and haven't received yet from TONE. They look to be almost the same type of quality as Koken. It's pretty amazing how these Japanese and German companies are able to totally destroy the United States made tools of today. Wasn't always like this. Another USA made brand that I'm very interested in trying would be Wright Tools
Mr Subaru on YT has a good video on the bahco and snapons criss cross. In short, the internal ratcheting doohickey is the same but the bahcos body and handle are ultimately inferior

These are going to be my next set of ratchets hopefully next month and the month after. And then I'm probably going to start building out my socket collection with mostly Koken sockets and extensions.
Good plan, My Nepros ratchets are my most used by far, especially the long handled versions.
Unfortunately i didn't have a good experience with nepros. My 1/4 stubby fell into solvent. I contacted nepros on proper relubrication but they were not able to suggest anything. Tried all kind of different lubes, including snapon superlube and nothing works, the mechanism keeps binding. Eventually i am using thin mineral oil, it works but i am not satisfied. Also it doesn't locks on all my sockets while my snapon has no problem doing that. Won't buy again
My goal is to have 50/50 German and Japanese tools their quality seems far superior to the US counterparts especially pricing Snap on is way to expensive for what it is no where near the best
I like my german tools too! I love the quality you get for the money with many Japanese manufacturers, but I go Swiss, or German, or American, or whatever, on certain things when the quality and value is there, or when the product is simply the best (like Knipex pliers wrenches and their cobra pliers).
I own a lot of both and Snap on is still just a little bit better most of the time.

@@BarbosaMCMXCVII Koken is a separate company, and their Z-eal series are their “premium” offerings. KTC and Nepros are the same company, and Nepros are KTC’s “premium” tools.

Mine arrived yesterday. Really impressed on the first look. I tried to open the 2 screw securing the head to check on the internal mechanics. The screws or softer then buttern. I was not able to open them, now the screw are fucked. I cannot understand why you would use such bad quality screws on such a high priced tool. My ratchet will be send back to japan tomorrow. Big disappointment for me.
Sorry to hear that. I honestly wouldn’t give up on the brand just yet. So much of their stuff is SO good!
I wonder whether you used a Phillips screwdriver to try to loosen the screws. Even though they may look identical, Japanese screws aren't the same as Phillips screws, so you need to use a JIS/ISO/DIN screwdriver to loosen or tighten them. A Phillips screwdriver won't fully enter the head of a Japanese screw, so using one is virtually guaranteed to result in damage.
@@tanukiboy2972 The screw was not only "damaged", it was unable to move it. If better screw were used, I am sure there was no problem, but this was just a joke. If you advertise a product with its ability to be serviced, don't use the worst screws you can find in a steel body. Anything but this shit would be fine, like torx or inbus.
@@B.Ing.White88 Just trying to be helpful. There are many, many complaints at motorcycle sites about the "shitty" screws used on Japanese bikes, but when those folks try using a Japanese Vessel JIS-compatible driver, they find they don't have problems with the shitty screws anymore. Sorry to hear about your bad experience though.

Why can’t China make stuff as good as Japan?
I do think China is capable of making quality things, but companies go there to make things for as cheap as possible. Japanese manufacturers don’t seem to be willing to compromise on quality. There’s no dignity in making cheap junk.
1.3 billion population. They just make shit tool and 20 million people will still buy it.
The Chinese focus on quantity over quality, Japanese focus on quality more than quantity

@@BrandoDamo compaired to the prices a year ago they seemed to be a little cheaper then now.
@@mlacher100 hmm I checked some of my receipts from 2021 and 2020 and the prices on those items were all the same as now. Maybe some other items have gone up due to supply chain issues or inflation. 🤷♂️
@@BrandoDamo form some reason I thought I remembered seeing them around the $75 mark. Maybe it was a different model. They sure are a nice looking Ratchet I would be afraid to take it out of its fancy box and scratch it up!! Lol
very pretty stuff , but with all the rubber bands on it , its clearly not designed by any one who actually has to use it .
What is easier to grip when there is oil or grease on it rubber or polished chrome there's a reason for rubber handled ratchets and you ever seen a screw driver with a polished metal smooth handle

Lol if you remove the rubber band, is it all of a sudden made for a mechanic who makes his living off then? The 1/4 ratchet and 1/4 do not have a band. It's for ergonomic purposes (if you choose to use it that way) and quite simply for an esthetic look
@@SnD340 snap on don't put rubber bands on ... when you take them off this you will get groves that will fill with crap and not wipe clean ... then you get dirty hands on clean jobs ... just not designed by some one who works with tools .. some one who works with a computer it's not the same thing looking pretty and working well ... hence the original comment
@@tomthompson7400 the groove isn't that tight where dirt would accumulate so easily and hard to clean. I'd suggest you get yourself one if you'd like to try. It's truly a great tool. The rubber ring doesn't hurt anybody and doesn't make u any less of a mechanic because u have a rubber o ring as suppose to the master tech with a snap on... I do love snap on though. Almost Everything about koken/nepros ratchets are better. Obviously they don't offer comfort grip/hard handle. The Japanese ratchets are much much more smooth and compact. Fit and finish is second to none while still being relatively affordable. Like I said, I love many tools and brands but I will not lie and say that nepros ratchets arent good tools just because they have aesthetic and jewelry like. Koken z-series ratchets are for the working men haha 🤙🏽
