- See beginning to end construction of a permaculture pond in a natural gully with earthworks gurus Zach Weiss and Megan Neary of Elemental Ecosystems. Watch the landscape come alive through the seasons as the pond becomes established during its first year. This video demonstrates what it takes to make a viable pond in an arid climate with sandy soil.

Looks like a great success! I'm in the first year of getting our homestead started with some permaculture ponds. Very informative, thanks!

I been looking to do something similar to this and found you, thanks for the information and video theirs tons of clay here and pebble stones.
You're welcome Justin! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Here's another one you might enjoy: ruclips.net/video/8h_-10cPB7s/видео.html
You should plant the types of rooted and also floating water plants in it that filter pond water.
Sherrick - Thanks so much for the suggestion! I'm sure I will add something new every year! This video includes some follow-up footage on the pond project: ruclips.net/video/eFPgaLMqtm4/видео.html
@@thomasjelpelyou are entirely and most welcome friend.
Okay. I will check it out.
Very cool. Imagine a world where everyone builds a pond on their land as a no brainer eco system boost. Wildlife would go crazy!
Thanks so much, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Here's another permaculture video we produced: ruclips.net/video/8h_-10cPB7s/видео.html

GReat video, great pond. What type of bentonite did you use? was it sodic or calcium bentonite?
To the best of my knowledge, it is sodium bentonite. Here is a follow-up video: ruclips.net/video/eFPgaLMqtm4/видео.htmlsi=Hu9xxmttg68_U8IU&t=185
sweet!
Thank you Dave!
Nice pond! does this pond have core clay trench?
Yes, it is sealed with an enormous amount of clay! Here is a video about projects on the homestead, which includes follow-up on the pond project: ruclips.net/video/eFPgaLMqtm4/видео.html
I wonder if drilling a hole straight down the center of the pond would help it have a place for sediment to deposit or if it would just end up being a drain and drying it out.
The soil is very sandy here, so it would probably slowly drain the pond! Here is a tour of my house you might enjoy: ruclips.net/video/QWKPisywxvY/видео.html
“Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.”
Psalms 114:8
Clay, by definition, is just a lot of very small, regular sized "rocks" that, when fit together properly, can produce, "standing water."
I love watching scientists discover scripturally revealed truth...the hard way.
Thank you Thank You THANK YOU for not using a man made liner!!! Enough plastic/ rubber is in this world.
Agreed! Bentonite was a much better solution. Here's a tour of my home you might enjoy: ruclips.net/video/QWKPisywxvY/видео.html
❤
I'm glad you enjoyed the video Monica! Here is another video that features some follow-up coverage of the pond project: ruclips.net/video/eFPgaLMqtm4/видео.html
How much did this project cost, if you don’t mind me asking. I’d love to do something similar!
Matt, I'm glad you are inspired by the video! Ponds are expensive. This was a small one, but cost $10K.
I got a price on a built in swimming pool. The lady told me after all said and done I’m gonna be looking at $40,000. Needless to say I didn’t get it so 10,000 for a pond that you could use all yea is a real bargain
MAke sure the tadpoles have places to go under during part of the day because they can get sunburned. :(
I didn't know that! Thanks for the heads-up! Here's another permaculture video you might enjoy: ruclips.net/video/8h_-10cPB7s/видео.html
