- In this video I compare Hydrow's original rowing machine to The Wave, their new rowing machine designed to be smaller, lighter, and less expensive. #Hydrow, #HydrowWave
Thanks to Hydrow for sending both me the Hydrow and The Wave to try out and review and paying for my time to make this video!

Excellent comparison, and very thorough. Much appreciated!
Thanks for watching! ☺️
Thank you for the video! Do you have to buy the additional anchor attachment to stand the Wave up or will it stand upright on its own?
The anchor does cost extra! Although I’ve had no problem standing it up without that. I would recommend the anchor though if you have young kids or pets who might knock over the wave. The anchor is for additional safety. Thanks for watching 😊
Hi Sarah--great content--thank you again. I finally ordered the smaller Wave after ordering the larger Pro a few times and hit the cancel button. I wanted the larger screen, but i was uneasy about the bulkiness of the Pro and not being able to fit it through doors. I'm in a small apartment and that drove the decision. Hopefully, i'll simply enjoy the Wave, which i anticipate i will. If i were in a house with a workout room, i would have gone with the larger Pro, but that's not my situation right now. best! Don
As you are in an apartment, is the Hydrow noisy for your neighbours? Thanks for the great reviews!!
Great video! Would love to hear your take on the Peloton Row and its comparisons to the Hydrow.
Thank you! I haven’t tried the Peloton Row yet, but I made a video recently actually about my thoughts on it!
I’m thinking now of getting the larger model. Thx again!!
Glad it was helpful!
Great video… super helpful
Glad it was helpful!
can you use the wave without the subscription?
Can you hook up Bluetooth earbuds to either of these?
Thanks Sarah. Would you say that the larger Hydro would require 2 people to move around an apartment vs the smaller Wave? its too bad that the video screen can't be used for streaming other content like netflix. or can it? best!
Thanks for watching :). I’m able to move both of them around my apartment on my own because they both have wheels. Although if I needed to carry them up or down stairs I would probably need help either way. Unfortunately you can’t stream content onto the screen :(
Is there any games for this? Do I have to be live with someone or can I do workouts alone?
Can you do the non rowing sessions on a AppleTV app for example? Just concerned about smaller non rotating screen for my space
I haven't tried this, but Hydrow's website says you can stream from the mobile app to a TV via AirPlay/Chromecast. Hope that helps!
@@MissSarahEK Thanks. I currently use Concept2 have you tried that in the past?
I can cast from my phone to my 65" tv to do yoga and floor exercises
Do you still have a discount code? The link only brought me to the website.
I saw your videos on the Peloton. Why didn’t you go with the Peloton Rower? Wouldn’t it save money on the subscription price, seeing how you already have the bike?
I got my original Hydrow before the Peloton Rower was launched, and the wave was sent to me to review from Hydrow. Definitely agree Peloton row would be ideal though for combining the subscription. Thanks for watching 😊
Since the wave screen does not swivel, can you sync it on your laptop?
I've never tried that, but I believe it's possible (at least to cast to a TV). support.hydrow.com/s/article/Stream-to-TV-via-Airplay-or-Chromecast-1651497392893
Will the rowers still work without having a membership/ just rowing?
They will still work, but you won't have access to the classes!
Would have been interesting to see how both machines compared standing up? And the ease/hassle of standing both up.
The wave is definitely easier to stand up because it’s lighter and I think more designed for standing upright. It also stands up more easily on its own without being attached to the wall (although you can get wall mounts for either for safety)
@@MissSarahEK - thanks for the updates, and I thought I read somewhere that another attachment was needed to stand up the wave and this was an additional cost, however someone else said the attachment could be left on all the time and it would have been interesting to understand how this attachment worked and whether it was worth leaving this on all the time or attaching and removing every time it was stood up and whether the attachment had any impact if it was just left on all the time? Great video and intro the the wave. 👍
There is an additional attachment you can get to stand up the wave and secure it again the wall. This does cost extra: shop.hydrow.com/products/hydrow-wave-vertical-anchor.
Personally though, I don't have the anchor, and I've just been standing up the wave unanchored, so I don't really know the details of how the anchor works. It seems pretty sturdy standing up without the anchor, and it's relatively easy to stand it up and bring it down (you just have to remove the pin that holds up the screen when you stand it up). I don't think the company recommends this for safety/liability reasons, but I haven't had a problem at all (it seems pretty sturdy...and I just leave it out of the way where I won't bump into it).
However, if you have young kids or pets or anything who might knock over the wave, I'm sure safer to have it anchored to the wall so it doesn't accidentally fall over or on anyone/anything.
If money and room was no object (say you have your own home gym room) would you stick with the Wave or the original Hydrow and if so, why?
In that case, I would say the Hydrow is better because (1) the screen is bigger and rotates (2) the machine feels a bit higher end and more substantial.
Space is a big constraint for me, so that made me favor the wave, but if you aren't planning on storing it vertically, the original Hydrow is more of a premium/nicer option.
Would you say the wave is as sturdy as the original? For reference, I'm 6'6" @300lbs
I would say the wave feels a bit less sturdy. I’m not sure about the weight capacity, but the machine itself is lighter so it feels a bit less substantial overall.
How much is the hydrow monthly membership?
Oh just got to it ! 38
Nice review. The wave sounds goofy. I will get the bigger one. Thanks. Nothing weird but cool voice. 🤜🏼🤛🏼
I hope and pray the reviews are accurate for quality, which I fully expect they will be. However, be aware/advised, as a recent cash purchaser that took advantage of the Black Friday sale, was disappointed to learn the day after and a few days after, they added over $300+ in extra equipment for the same purchase. This is great for those who procrastinated, but for me; customer service and sales should have made one aware. I guess I remember the old days of brick and mortar store integrity.
It squarely falls on me and I look forward to the workouts and use [and hopefully weight-loss and conditioning] and I hope it gives me years of good service as I am now concerned Customer Service is just a 'refusal' department...I'll update on the equipment but honestly believe it will be great! What's a few pieces of equipment anyway?
UPDATE FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE: AWESOME!! They listened to my concerns and comments, and after reviewing they satisfied me on all aspects of my comments. Proving that they are Customer Oriented and a solid company! ALSO, I LOVE MY WAVE!! I would suggest only buying if you plan to use their coaches and programs..they are worth the money! Thanks!
Can you put an iPad on the machine like in front of the screen? If you wanted to watch a show or you tube?
Hmm…probably not unless you taped it onto the screen. There unfortunately isn’t a ledge or anything to set an iPad.
@@MissSarahEK I just found attachments you can buy on a Amazon!
Can't believe they raised the price $400!
Believe it.
I got an Echelon Row Sport for less than $300 when it's usually going for $799 to $999. Really like the silent magnetic resistance. The app is trash and seems designed to scam your personal data so Ive never connected it online. Got it without the screen as I have tablets and phones, and classes are useless, and they add like $600 to the price and they always are pretty trashy cheap Chinese components
This is my first time watching her video, but I swear she could be actress Brie Larson's sister.
Where are you from
Or save money and hassle and buy a concept 2
@rascott1970 … Possibly, but you do have to factor in the noise level on the concept2. I currently have the concept2 model D (bought new, have had it since February of 2019), but am possibly looking to replace it with a hydro rower for a more quiet experience (won’t even consider getting getting the subscription).
