Everyone ask what I squat, but nobody ask how I squat 🥺
How do you squat?
@@HolyPineCone Ass to grass
@@nateung Ass to grass? Three red lights
a REAL squat is ass THROUGH grass 🙄
@@frankchen4229 Silly me! My hip crease needs to be below sea level
Matt just want to say there are a lot of fake egotistical personalities on yt and tiktok fitness but you are genuinely a humble and strong person who is 100% clear no aesthetic bullshit. Keep it up 👍
Justin lee being one of those fake personalities
very smart aswell tbf...
@@dildobaggins2759 I agree with you I’m not gonna argue with that! But I’ve been seeing his vids and idk he just rubs me the wrong way, maybe I’m a little late to his vids too cause I’ve always watched Matt’s, but it looks like he’s starting to copy his style in videos a bit?
@@anorginalname805 how? Justin is also a good creator
They're both similar in ways, for example, they're both shorts creators who mostly answer questions from viewers, but I wouldn't say Justin's copying Matt's style. There are many content creators who answer questions from viewers, however, I think Matt's content is almost entirely geared towards powerlifting, whereas Justin is more like just general fitness. Justin just has a different personality and trains for different purposes, so his style and content is very different. Videos where creators answer comments for content has always been a thing, however I can understand how it seems like Justin copies Matt, cause they're both fitness shorts creators who both answer questions.
Personally I do mostly weightlifting so squatting upright is necessary for me, but man your content is amazing and is super helpful
Tom Platz said it himself. If you're trying to lift the most weight possible, having an upright torso isn't optimal. I don't think anyone would argue this. Including Lui. He's not a powerlifter. He's not trying to lift the most weight possible in the squat. He's squatting to get better at HIS sport. Period.
i notice this even with front squats... if i lean forward just a TINY TINY bit.. it makes the lift way more comfortable and easier for me
These long form videos are a blessing Ty Mr vena. Also demonstrations would help your explanations.
This guy info is pure Gold !!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
I enjoy these longer videos a lot when you go deeper in-depth!
Said this on another video but I'm personally a fan of these longer videos. You can get a much more detailed explanantion of the topic with these 5+ minute ones
if you look at sit to stand research, this explains it really well. you can even try it at home. try to stand up from your chair with feet in front of you so your shins are completely perpendicular and without shifting your torso forward. you can’t bc the moment required at the knee is too great. but if you bring your feet closer to your body and lean your torso forward the moment required at the knee is less and the moment produced at the hip is greater! just a fun little biomechanics lesson
These long form videos are the best
You sound like a young Mark Rippetoe. I mean that as a good thing.

Love these longer vids!!!
I’ve been loving your videos Matt, and you are freakin beast bro! Could you make a video regarding Starting Strength? The only reason I ask is because I am doing Mark Rippetoes program now and I like it and am getting stronger but a lot of people trash on starting strength and I can’t tell if it’s because it is not legit or if it’s because Rippetoe just pisses too many people off
Honestly it's good, mainly people like to argue with him because he's such an opinionated man. Also a common argument is that it's for beginners, that is maybe true but I recon you can go quite far before you hit a wall. And if you still like the method there's the other programme from him, I think it's called The Texas method or something like that.
Hi!
Dont listen to people. The training community is actually kinda small. People like to talk trash, and are more interested in What everyone thinks about everyone.
Rippetoe is the founder of starting Strength, and that is not «a program». I guess you actually mean the NLP (novice linear progression) and yes thats written by Rippetoe.
But Rippetoe stands behind several books. If you buy the «grey book» called Practical Programming for Strength Training, you will have the NLP and a lot of more information What to do next! The most important thing, is that you will learn to program yourself.
My best advice is to follow your program for starting Strength, and buy his books🙌
Matt could you be my personal trainer
He offers online training and I'd highly recommend it. Matt helped me out with a ton of form clean up and programming. Worth every penny
@@KramJ0hns0n He should advertise it more, I wasn't even aware of that
@@KramJ0hns0n how much does he charge?
I'm not releasing his prices, that's not fair to him. But he offers different options. Most of his vids in the beginning list his email for coaching and his IG has his email listed for coaching so check those out.
Hey Matt, what's your opinion on butt wink in a squat? I try to avoid it as much as possible but to hit depth comfortably It's kind of a necessity for me
Maybe something about rounding the lower back to reach the bottom of a squad. I see you do it slightly.
But many people say its bad. If I dont rond my back a bit I lose balance on my way up because I lean foreward to much.
If your lower back rounds even when you don't use any weight then that means it is just a limit of your structure and it is not dangerous to round. But if your back only rounds when you lift heavy weights then that is due to lower back weakness, so it can be dangerous.
@@baz1184 thanks well I alway rond my back just to reach dept with any weight s that makes sense
Matt and then there is John Haack lol
Hip draaaaaave
No. I have short legs and a tall trunk. Lifting your way don't work for me
Do you do any accessory movements for the dead lift?
but but but but, Tom Platz said otherwise!
Squatting upright is based
1st
dammit.
🙄
Title should Stated that these are more for power lifting not bodybuilding
So more bent over is low bar squat right? I can't even hit depth when squatting without my lower back hurting, and my hamstrings, hips feeling like they're about to tear. Been doing front squats which feel great but maybe will try low bar. Thanks
How many times a week do you train?
So that’s how you look without a mask 😷 😆
Me squat upright because me like high bar and weightlifting
You made a video about should powerlifters do ohp but I was wondering about incline bench. I would think it has more carryover to flat bench
Depends on the incline, most inclines probably carryover to the ohp more
If you OHP 100kg its a guarantee that your Bench is at least 100kg
OHP has more carryover to flat bench than incline, plus it targets more muscle groups. Just treat it seriously and apply progressive overload and you'll see great results in hypertrophy and strength
@@ahmedsn9297 That's just wrong, incline has more carryover to flat... Mouvement is more similar, this is just logical..
@@im_reyz8780 yea that’s why I asked
Coach could you work on the audio, content is amazing though
you said faster decent on squats are good but you kinda decent slowly in your squats is there a reason for that?
I much rathee prefer high bar
When i was at a powerlifting meet i was doing a 400 pound squat and when i began going down i started to feel my back bend downward but i got the weight up any tios on form to prevent this
Man, i konw that you came from tik tok but please do not stop make longer video here on yt.
Remember you are not Chinese 😂
What are your home gym equipment?
Its so more aesthetically better looking thooooooo
Should “bodybuilders” even back squat if we deadlift as well? Compared to a deadlift it seems to hit the same muscle groups. I would rather just front squat for legs and use deadlifts for the posterior chain. Wouldn’t that be incorporating more “specificity” for hypertrophy?
Try to fatigue yourself as little as possible
Deadlifts don't hit quads bro. There is a reason why pretty much every bodybuilder does squats. Highbar atg > lowbar when it comes to bodybuilding tho
Hack squats are your friend
Why would bodybuilders do dead lifts vs squats ? I remember watching a video of Phil heath working out saying he never did dead lifts his whole career even when he turned professional. That's hoe useless they are
algorithm comment
Low bar makes you gay be careful
all proper squat videos are "in depth"
i cant get to depth with lowbar without a lot of butt wink which causes pain? is it a technique thing or more of a biomechanic thing?
Are you trying to go ATG? Low bar isn't meant for that. You have to relax too many muscles to get there.
@@SSJBartSimp im trying to go below parallel for it to be comp legal
@@raizan6564 in that case I would practice leaning over at some easier weights until you get the depth you want. From there you should be able to match your normal working weight pretty easily once you get the right feel.
@@raizan6564 Some people just have shitty structure for squatting in general. Look at Eugene Teo's recent video with the guy he used as comparison. In my case, if i do lowbar i literally have to fold myself in half to keep the weight at midfoot. It gets to the point where i'm at a 30 degree angle and my knees are almost at my shoulders, it's ridiculous. And with high bar i'm super weak because my legs are long and i get like more than half a foot of knees going over toes, and i'm still bent over like 45 degrees. I'd just stick to machines if your case is like mine.
@@FiveN9ne i dont think mines that bad. Ive squatted 145kg for 4 with high-ish bar, with knee travel, which i dont think is particularly a problem. I think i just went parallel though, but definitely 3 red lights
with long femurs I have to squat very upright to hit depth and keeping me in center of gravity even on front squats.
form + function > lifting more weight
Crazy how much bigger you look from the side.
Hey Matt. You're looking a little chunky. It's not an insult but maybe an opportunity. I don't think you'd loose a single pound of lifting performance if you shrunk up the gut a little. Would that be enough to put you in a lighter weight class for easier records? Or are you just off season? Or would it not be enough to change the weight class?
I know being actually lean (under 11%) would hurt performance so I'm obviously not asking about going that far. I'm just curious about what's going on. Obviously if you're breaking records then you're doing something right.
Maybe what i really need is a video explaining powerlifting weight classes amd how to choose.
no thanks, I don't want hips like that. ATG highbar >>>
The dickeating is insane
