  • Harry Kane's standing in the football industry is both phenomenal and perplexing. Often cited as one of the best goal scorers in the game, the English player's lack of trophies and a stream of bad luck tends to overshadow his accomplishments and confuses his legacy. This video essay explores his current tenure at Bayern Munich, the issues he's having there, and answers the question of whether Kane is the problem.

As far as im concerned tottenham made the champions league final for the first time in history and this was without kane and as soon as he came in for the final, tottenham lost. As far as im concerned, tottenham won more percentage of games without kane than with kane. As far as im concerned, Bayern munich have been winning the bundesliga for past 7 years but will lose the bundesliga this year which is the year kane came in.

Well for Kane to score, the others have to contribute, he isn't passing the ball to himself.
It's more an issue of Bayer Leverkusen doing EXCEPTIONALLY well. Think about this for a second; for Bayern to lose the BL, Leverkusen has to not lose a single game. They can't afford to lose one game, because if they do, that's it Bayern will be back in it.

As a Spurs fan, it hurts seeing the blame he gets, the real reason is that Spurs were never meant to get has far as we did… We weren’t meant to challenge for Leagues, Cups, and a UCL Final.
Obviously still hurts that we didn’t win anything, but Bayern should not have won last season, Dortmund were champions as far as I’m concerned and Tuchel should’ve been sacked there and then…
Spurs never had as big a budget as the other big clubs, we spent money on our stadium, to grow as a club, economically, Levy values the Tottenham brand over the football team, and that’s just the way it is.

Actually we have more points now in the league than we did last season this time. We only won last season because Dortmund bottled their last game and gifted the Bundesliga to us. We could still be contenders for the CL.

    let's be reasonable.
Bayern was already falling apart since last season, they got lucky that Dortmund flopped at the last game so Bayern got the title. They had a good run like Juventus did 10 years ago, but all good things come to an end at some point.
given how this season has gone so far, Bayern would probably struggle to hang on to 4th spot if Kane has not join them.

While i do agree, for his legacy Kane needs trophies, otherwise regardless of his stats, clubs he has played for.
he will always be a legendary striker that gets listed on the lower tiers.
at Bayern i do think a CL is honestly the only trophy that matters for Kane, because Bayern won 11 seasons in a row without him, so even if they lose to Leverkusen this season, Bayern are still likely to win a the bundesliga with or without Kane.

This isn't about the "current" situation or optics. It's the objective truth that he has failed when his club/country needed him most for his entire career. If goalscoring records were so impressive and important, why did he run away from the Prem in a desperate attempt to save his legacy by winning arguably the most guaranteed trophy in European football (Bayern winning the Bundesliga)? Trophies make legacies, and Kane let himself and his teammates down at every opportunity he had.
The media narrative is that he is a generational talent, and the fan opinion is that he is "cursed" - not the other way around. The media have done their absolute best to blame every single person other than Kane for his lack of trophies. No other player in history has had that treatment. If you are placed in the "world class" category, you get 1, maybe 2, and if you are extremely lucky, 3 chances to prove yourself in the biggest games before you are terminally removed from that category (and rightly so). Kane has 0 goals and 0 assists in 4 career finals. His teammates, which the media are always desperate to pretend have held him back, got him to many of those finals with little or no significant input from Kane himself, but as soon as he loses a final, it becomes their fault and never his. The lack of accountability for this guy is unprecedented in the entire history of football.
At nearly 31 years of age, as captain of his country and a senior member of any team he plays in, he is still failing to deliver when it matters, most notably against Leverkusen and Lazio in just the last few weeks, which were the biggest games of Bayern's season so far. The best players in the world find a way, especially when they are part of the best teams. They don't need excuses and speculation, because they get the job done. There are no what ifs or what could've beens, other than what if he was capable of performing when the pressure is at its highest, and what could've been if he didn't vanish in 100% of his career finals.
If this comment hurts your feelings, you are part of the brainwashed majority who refuse to contextualise raw numbers and to scrutinise the stats that are staring you in the face. Kane is a very competent goalscorer, and absolutely nothing more than that.

Blaming him for Bayern’s failures is disingenuous I agree. But I would also say there have been multiple chances for him to really shine and take crucial games by the scruff of the neck where he hasnt for both spurs and England. The missed penalty against France, the performance in the ucl final and efl cup final.
Many spurs fans here will not agree with me but he’s the one striker I look at and still get shocked that he hasnt lifted even one trophy yet.
Which player in the world scores over 300 career goals and doesnt lift something? Thats unheard of. We’ve seen strikers in shit teams take games by their horns and win. Big example, Aubameyang in the FA cup run in 2020.
Also, this title loss to Leverkusen will be a bad bad stain on a career that is still looked at closely ALOT.
I believe he should have left spurs years ago no matter how the fans feel about that. At some point, you have to be hated in order to be successful. Van Persie did it

Kane being a “problem” at Bayern is laughable. He’s not only scoring goals like Lewandowski, he’s also contributing a lot in the buildups. It’s just bad luck for him that Bayern is undergoing their worst phase this decade. Bayern’s transfers have been questionable too. Midfield is fragile. And defence is marred with injuries. I’m sure Kane will win a trophy with Bayern, being their best players once Bayern fixes their back line issues by next season. It’s just sad to see one player of his stature get disrespected because of his team’s circumstances.
