These are in my opinion true Gem amps, and they provide a nice warm clean tone, they have a fender twin reverb style voicing, I have owned Jazz Chorus and this has more of an American clean tone. This is one of the best solid state amps. I changed the speaker on my G50 to an eminence and it made it even better
There's my amp, the G50 which I've had since the early 80s. And they were very reasonably priced. There was also a 100, but the 50 was all the amp most would ever need. This video shows only one side of the amp. Crank up the gain and rock and roll. There's also a "pull fat" nob which you pull out for a fatter sound. The amp is as versatile as it gets and why after 40 years I'm still using mine. 3:10 hi, pup.
I just picked up a G50 112ii and am genuinely ‘shocked’ how good it sounds with my JV Strat, EP Booster, TS808 and brass slide. I love my 65’ DRRI but the Yamaha has it’s own voice.
Steffen Brix Thx. I worked for Yamaha Pro Audio UK for 5 x years in the 80’s and know first hand their genuine passion for quality. My G50 had been In storage since 1980 and had crackley pots etc. I gave it to a self confessed valve amp tech (snob) who was blown away by the internal quality of construction etc. Btw, I appreciate your playing so much. Cheers!
hello i bought the same amp but could you tell me how did you set the parametric eq please? i can see only the first two knobs but i can't see the third....any advice on how to use them? please, thanks a lot nice playing
@@steffenbrix Hi Steffen i dont want to use it but i see that wherever you leave the knobs it affects the sound you cannot simply switch it off, so where do you leave the knobs? thanks
The three eq knobs do this; one is -5 to +5 is the amplitude or volume for the frequency the second knob is set for, so if you dial in +3 and 200 you’ll get a boost right at that frequency. The third knob controls the width of the boost, how much wider or narrower the ramp is up and down on either side of the 200 frequency. Like a notch filter is supplements the other tone controls. Sorry, just woke up, hope that make sense!
@@steffenbrix nice! thanks a lot i didn't know it! by the way it must be useful when i use my solid body nylon string through it...if you know how to eq a nylon string guitar through it please let me know ok thanks a lot take care and nice playing by the way! here you are my songs let me know if you like them www.soundcloud.com/hermes1975
Greetings!! This amplifier is too BASS-y, or your guitar is too bright ..On PARAM. EQ LOW freq are boosted...? Or the POT caps are not in the right position...??
Nope. It is not too bassy. It's perfect. All controls are always at noon with this amp. It is the greatest clean amp ever built. Try to remember - this is a phone recording.....
Sweet playing. The amp is a classic, but the music is in the hands.
this was my first amp back in the early 80's. still have it and play it. love it.
Yeah - it's great. I have two of them now. And two of the G100s
Was not ready for that.Cool playing that really demonstrated the abilities of the Yamaha G50.
Great tone with that amp my brother. Sings like an angel.

I have a feeling you could play through a $2 cardboard amp and it would sound great, but the tone of this thing is phenomenal!
Thank you Keith! Very kind... 😊
Robbin Ford!! Love that!!
beautiful playing my dude
What a beautiful sound!

Just got one today, what settings are you using?

It's completely amazing :) ....get it recapped at some point and it will last 3 or 4 decades more ;)

superb!
I found this used and ready to sale.....but I have to wait til she gets back.in town.....ARRHGHHH
Oh , I led myself to believe this was about an Amplifier , not so "Bad" once my expectations were looked-over.
beautiful sound and playing. What tuning are you using ?
Simon Jones tuning?
Simon Jones just random here... if you think about 440 Hz? But I AM a huge fan of 432 Hz actually....
@@steffenbrix ow seems to make a huge difference in the tone "colour" love it. sorry about the delay in reply lol :-)
Awesome tone and playing man!!!. Is that song yours?
Thanks man. It's a Robben Ford tune called Life Song 👍
@@steffenbrix but the merit is all yours!
How well does it handle pedals?
Extremely well!
@@steffenbrix thank you for the response! Looking into buying one now
bro you make a bad amp sound good
Question : Is the guitar plugged straight in the amp ?
yes :)
Did you use that amp playing gigs with a band ? Is it loud enough ?
+wellyaa yes it's cool.... but I always play stereo, so I use two amps.. but it can play with a drummer ' yes

Hey Hermes. I don't use it. It's a cool feature. But unnecessary to me. You can lots of videos and stuff on parametric eq 🙃

Best clarifying comment ever! Wonderful tone and playing, too.
Steffen Brix the tone sounds great , cleanest of the cleans !
That's ridiculous; tone is subjective. Sweet tone!
