  • Learn how to make Crispy baked onion pakora, a popular tea time snack
    Baked onion pakoda
    Preparation time: 15 mins Baking time: 25 mins Serves: 3
    Ingredients
    1 cup Onion thinly sliced
    4 tblsp Besan | kadalaimaavu
    4 tblsp Rice flour
    1/8 tsp Baking soda
    1 tsp Red chili powder
    1 green chilli
    ¼ tsp Turmeric powder
    Salt as needed
    3 Garlic crushed
    Curry leaves few
    Coriander leaves few
    2 tblsp + 1.5 tsp Oil

    This is a great video without all of the talking. Simple and easy. Love the fact that they are baked rather than fried. Much healthier. I am going to be more creative and add other vegetables. I am doing a plant based diet and this recipe will be added to my food repertoire. Thank you!

    I tried this recipe today! Excellent one. I'm always going to make baked pakoras only from now onwards. Crispy, tasty and not oily. Superb!

    I just put these in the oven. I'm looking forward to trying them. I made vegetable ones with shallots zucchini and orange peppers instead of all onions.

    It's in the oven now, I'll come back for the results. I added some carrots and eggs to it though 😅
    Ok so the once I mixed them with one eggs are crispy and more put together. The one without eggs tastes more like a dough and not that good to be honest. Also I had to leave them a little longer in the oven like 35 minutes and I think If I left them longer it will be even better.

    My pakoras were not crispy. Wondering where could I have gone wrong?! Taste was good.
    I really want to try this once again. Suggestions pls. I use Samsung Microwave convection oven

      Hi thanks for trying. Every oven settings are different. Try baking in less temperature (150 degrees) but for little longer time. That will work. I have never used a convection oven

      It won't come crispy. You can add little corn flour and try

      No corn flour texture will be totally different. You can replace Sattu flour

    HELP!! When I tried baking the pakoras, the pakoras was soft in the middle. It wasn’t crunchy and thick. What did I do wrong?

      Basically it’s not cooked well. Either it’s undercooked, you can cook for few more mins next time. Or the flour is more.
      Or oil may be less
      These are the 3 places where you could have gone wrong

      You can nicely grease the baking tray and bake in that. Aluminium foil works but personally I haven’t tried as I am but scared

    looks nice..will surely try...I have a question..do we need to preheat oven at 160 degree celsius for 10 minutes before baking the pakoras?

      Dosa Batter if you have a bigger oven you can preheat for 5 mins. Mine is very small so if I preheat it’s getting burnt.

      Hello, tried them today they turned out pretty well..but for my oven, need to try 2-3 times more as it was taking so much time so after 15 mins i increased oven temp to 350 degrees F and then 375 degrees F..next time will set temp as 350 and preheat for 10 mins then try..but taste was good...thanks for the recipe :)

    What is parchment paper? Can we make in otg? Is it necessary to preheat?

      Parchment paper is butter paper. We get in supermarkets. Yes, it is made in OTG only. If your oven is a very small oven, no need to preheat. Just go ahead

    Is baking pakoda more healthy than air frying?
    looking for alternative for frying but I m really confused.can anyone suggest which one is better?

      Hema Sivalinggam hi!! I have made the fried version using the same ingredients and they have turned out great. I usually add more besan flour for better binding while frying. Good luck :)

      @@reshmaemilin4661 temperature varies from oven to oven. You should try baking it for few more minutes also don’t lessen the oil quantity

      Can u please be little kind in your words. Bitterness in pakoras may be due to the Besan flour. Just check that . Also this has been tried so many times in my kitchen and then only posted in my channel. Why will I post a video which is a failure. Also it is tried by many people and turned out good.
