This song stirred up some memories and I realized it’s from the scene in the movie Babe where he tries to sneak into the farmer’s house! Awesome tutorial as well!
These tiny berries are marvelous! However, I've tried using this technique several times, and the little clay bits just won't stick to my toothpick. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong...
Adding pastel will make the color more vibrant while maintaining the clay's translucency. Adding colored clay will also add vibrancy, but will make the clay more opaque. I like to combine the two to get a better balance of color and translucency.

Do you use both the red clay and the pastels when mixing it all together?
Yes! I combine the pastel dust, red clay, and translucent clay all together.

Why the pastel if you're adding colored clay already?
Adding pastel will make the color more vibrant while maintaining the clay's translucency. Adding colored clay will also add vibrancy, but will make the clay more opaque. I like to combine the two to get a better balance of color and translucency.
