No destroying your enemy out of hate and revenge only destroys yourself. If you're enemy is worth the hate do nothing cause that will assure they will fail
I like how every arc has there own genre the saiyan saga is like a disaster movie the freeza saga is like a Sifi movie the cell arc is like a terminator/time travel movie and the buu arc is like a comedy/monster movie
Really enjoy these in depth videos of DBZ. It's the fighting is the main focus of DBZ, but there's also a lot of heart to the show. It might sound dumb, but I've learned a lot from the show. Goku taught me to give people second chances. Vegeta taught me to never give up - no how difficult the circumstances. Piccolo taught me not to act on impulse. Gohan taught me that it's ok to be angry when necessary. Whenever I'm feeling depressed, DBZ gives me that feeling of hope and adventure that I had when I watched it as a kid.
Brilliant brilliant brilliant. I love these. Keep up the marvelous work. Idk if you already said you would, or wouldn't - but after Buu, you COULD consider doing DBS arcs. We haven't had a very deep tremendous arc yet (such as the ones in DBZ) but I still think they could be decent. Keep it up Danny.
People should stop complaining about gohan becoming a scholar and not the strongest warrior after cell. He follows "The Heroes Journey" word to word. He starts with his normal life, he is called to adventure (something he didn't wan't and wasn't prepared for), he goes through many trials and trys to prove him-self as a grown, worthy fighter to his allies and enemys. His character is all about growing, wich is more symbolic given his age when he beats cell. Gohan grows, proves him-self and afterwards he goes back to his normal life(like ulysses and many other heroes). Why? Many say it's a terrible decision, I don't think so. Gohan grew up, he already wen't through his changing peryod. No longer a kid he has the choice to live his life as he wanted. That is what the heroes journey is about: gorwing up(passing puberty and becoming a grown man); he had his moment, his grand reveal. The villain he defeated represented all those who he had to surpass, all those who his admired or hated and fought or wanted to follow. Cell is Gohans greatest test, the perfect antagonist to the heroe we kind of suspected.
Cell arc is the best in DBZ imo. The stuff with Vegeta and Trunks is as good and deep as any pop fiction out there. Another thing I really like about it is how it takes the mini-themes that Toriyama was working with in the Muscle Tower arc from DB and matures them. Android 8's character was echoed in Android 16 (also 16 is 8x2). The idea that though you may be incomplete and see yourself as "artificial" you always have the potential for true courage and humanity. Great stuff and very reminiscent of one of Toriyama's influences for this arc in particular, James Cameron/Terminator. Especially T2, which is all about a machine learning what it means to be human. Love these theme vids!
There's a huge theme you missed: The theme of not judging people before you get to know them. This is best evidenced by Android 18, who ends up befriending and marrying Krillin because he was the only one of the Z-Fighters who treated her with a modicum of respect. The other Z-Fighters just wanted to destroy the Androids on sight just for existing. Oh sure, the Z-Fighters wanted to fight the Androids because they were told by a guy from the future that they were evil, but the Androids didn't know that! Also, when Piccolo goes to fuse with Kami, Kami actually points out "What I saw was that YOU were the ones to start the fight!" This foreshadows one of my personal favorite themes of this saga.
The cell saga was my favorite of all time. They had 5 niggas we thought were the main villains till he showed up and had the biggest come up of all time!
I think it's an interesting dynamic that Trunks wanted to fight but Vegeta refused to include him, while Gohan wanted a peaceful life free of violence and was pressured against his will into his role of savior by Goku.
4:57 - Yep! It's a nice little detail that not many people notice. It could have been accidental, but I like the idea that it was intentional. A thing about the "Pride before the fall" theme - something I honestly enjoyed was that Cell was only possible because of the main character's mistakes - all the way back to Goku defeating the Red Ribbon Army. Goku himself was just as guilty as everyone in letting Cell become such a threat. So I find it interesting that the one who ends up defeating him isn't Goku, isn't Vegeta, isn't even Trunks, but Gohan - someone who had been so disconnected from the main story, but someone who also wasn't guilty of the same mistakes the other Saiyans and humans had made. Perhaps Goku was even aware of this, and that was part of the reason why he decided the world was safer with him not around. Now that I'm thinking about it, it'd be nice if Goku had instead made up for those mistakes in some way, instead of essentially running away, but...I guess you could say that was what the Buu Saga was for.
That scene at the end is why i love the Funimation dub so much so many cheesy lines but when your young their so epic and when your older their so funny.
geekdom do you think that cell couldve used the kaioken? I think it would be a pretty cool "what if" to see Cell pull a goku and use the kaioken against gohan but i havent seen many people bring it up
I feel like the Frieza arc is undoubtedly the most iconic in all of Dragon Ball, but I can’t help but feel like the Cell arc is the best one, at least in Dragon Ball Z. I’m trying to set my bias aside, as the Cell arc is indeed my favorite, but there are just so many great things that came out of this arc, whether it be the themes, the events that took place, the progression and development, or just the characters themselves. You did an excellent job of making all that clear, Geekdom. Thank you for this. Such a great and comforting video I can watch about my favorite thing ever from Dragon Ball when I want to relax or am just in the mood for more DB content and knowledge.
Dude you’re one of my favorite RUclipsrs already but these videos are helping explain the series to my girlfriend who’s completely new to the series! Great stuff!!
Even though the characters make stupid decisions I absolutely love the cell saga and it's my favorite in DBZ with my favorite characters in the saga being trunks and gohan and cell is my favorite dragon ball villain great video.
overall, i think its mainly Kuririn who acted the most dumbest due to his lust. Vegeta was supposed to be an asshole and even if Z fighters had stopped Gero, Cell entry is inevitable and he would devour them all.
I liked the theme of the sons inheriting the legacy of the fathers in this arc. Trunks is an example if you become too dutiful of a son, trying to deny yourself in order to meet the father's expectations of you, so much that he suppressed his potential and hid the fact, he briefly surpassed him, even if it was ultimately a flawed way he did it. Cell is an example of what happens when you stray away from your father's expectations in the pursuit of your own selfishness. He started out doing everything in his cunning and power to achieve the powers his creator expected him do, but then out of hedonistic narcissism, went back on his creator's wishes for world domination/world destruction (dub) in order to indulge in his vanity. He learn to accept these goals after his near death experience, but by then it was too late. Gohan is the one that gradually comes to understand the importance of inheriting the legacy (until he began to slowly learn other responsibilities in the future), he is tasked with the role of defeating the enemy and becoming the world's next protector. However, he doesn't completely comprehend this fully until a two step process of developing the killing intent with 16's death and then learning the weight of putting aside your selfish desires to do the right thing like his father.
My favorite arc and for some damn reason I always loved the Red Ribbon army. I just think they was such a massive force in Dragonball. For Goku to beat the whole RR army way back was awesome. It's neat how Toriamma can take how a lot of go through life making bad decisions, like you was talking about, and put it into a story of great characters. I just believe one reason Dragonball is so good is that it is a reflection of what life is. With some extra stuff on top like special powers and stuff.
Yeah I think some people miss that Vegeta's motive wasn't to save the Earth in this arc, it was to prove a point and assert his dominance in order to one up goku and show everyone that he was the most powerful in the universe. Good thing everything worked out.
Hyped for the themes of the buu arc video! Was my favorite saga because of the awesome animation, and the amazing moments all my favorite characters had.
This is one of my favorite series on your channel, and it definitely makes me question which saga I like best. Do you think you're gonna do something similar with the U6 vs U7 arc of Dragonball Super? It's cool if you have already and I missed it. Just think your analysis of that arc would be really interesting.
+Geekdom101 Well, there might be but they involve closer examination after the run of the show is over. So I don't mind waiting. So far the show is going awesomely!
While you are correct, many made bad decisions in this saga. The reality is they made plenty of bad choices in other sagas, not surprisingly. However, knowing the saiyans and wanting to fight which even frieza mentioned in his saga (I can't speak for the manga). Also wanting to test thier powers. It is obvious by thier nature or saiyan blood they going to make bad decisions, until reality hits some of them in the head , which happens to be too little too late to do anything, but find another solution or find "Hope" as you indicated. This then leads to a bigger climax to leave you wondering what happens next despite thier foolish choices. This is what makes this whole series interesting. Knowing about who they are and what they may foolishly do ,will have the dbz fans talking. It certainly leads to these final epic moments.
You know there is one theme that I think you missed, The pursuit of perfection. Toriyama's editor was consistently unsatisfied with Toriyama's character designs as well as story plots elements during the arc. In my mind Toriyama subconsciously felt his story was "imperfect" and honestly thought it had to be "perfect" otherwise his editor would never be happy. Just my opinion though, could be totally wrong. Great video by the way!
Geekdom101 Goku also said to Bulma about Gero at least in the manga “He hasn’t made anything yet so it’s not nice to just beat him up” so he is justifying his reasoning for not going after Dr.Gero by not going after a thought crime.
I think a theme of the Android and Cell Saga as a whole is how people can create things then later be destroyed by their creations as Gero was when 17 killed him.
I liked each of the sagas has its own point of reference 1 The Saiyan saga is like a science fiction movie, 2 The Namek saga is like an alien/superhero movie 3 The Sel saga is like a time travel movie 4 The Boo saga is like a wizard movie
Thanks for making this video and covering the theme of the cell saga! Would you also add Dr Gero using Android 16 in memory of his son in the father & son theme?
I actually have something to say about that, since Trunks warned them , whatever "damage" to the timeline is done. Cell still would've come to their time regardless if they found Gero and stopped them from being awakened. Maybe even Cell of their time would've not been in development but there's no guarantee for that since we don't know who was developed first. Cell would've came and probably bested them all. There's a chance they could since Cell at first could not take on Piccolo fused with kami who could go toe to toe with 17 but again unsure.
I just realized that when you think about it Gero had the last laugh at the end because his goal was to kill Goku and at the end Goku was dead
Ha yeah it’s an interesting point
Lol no he didn’t ,he literally came back in 7 years🤣
@@N21464 he didn’t intend to come back
No destroying your enemy out of hate and revenge only destroys yourself. If you're enemy is worth the hate do nothing cause that will assure they will fail
That's true he did
0:58 This opening theme works magic at drawing people in!
IT'S ALL FUCKING CLICKBAIT
I can't find the name of that theme or any videos besides this anywhere. I wanted to listen to that theme again.
I like how every arc has there own genre the saiyan saga is like a disaster movie the freeza saga is like a Sifi movie the cell arc is like a terminator/time travel movie and the buu arc is like a comedy/monster movie
+Aaron Mackellar hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Aaron Mackellar so terminator/time travel isn’t sci fi?
This was amazing man. You can tell you investing a lot of time and effort into making this video. More people should see this.
I see you everywhere lol. I love your animations
Roshi taught me age is just a number
Brilliant brilliant brilliant. I love these. Keep up the marvelous work.

These are honestly my favorite videos from you. I love analysis of the this series
+AndreFTW I agree.

Agreed :)

I really love the Cell Saga for these reasons. Cell has one of the best "Villanous Breakdowns" I've ever seen, and it's so awesome to see
It seems that Goku was smarter as kid in DB than in DB Super as older, lol
lol
+Denis Vezijak I think he got hit in the head too much as an adult!
+Lambr00 right
+comiXproviderFTW Nah. Buu saga Goku is still seen with sense. Supers writing is just horrible with him
Nah, he's just more relaxed.
There's a huge theme you missed: The theme of not judging people before you get to know them.

I'm rewatching this months later cause it's just really good but like, these may be some of my favorite videos you've done.
I think it's an interesting dynamic that Trunks wanted to fight but Vegeta refused to include him, while Gohan wanted a peaceful life free of violence and was pressured against his will into his role of savior by Goku.

I loved how between 7:30 -7:50 you exposed Vegeta's arrogant ass
Da whole father son theme was my favorite part. Even Gohan's interaction with General Tao was cool to see.
That scene at the end is why i love the Funimation dub so much so many cheesy lines but when your young their so epic and when your older their so funny.
What I liked about DbZ is it felt like everything was more at stake. Super I kinda get that feeling with only the latest arc.
+DEATHxTHExKIDx1 I actually agree with you
geekdom do you think that cell couldve used the kaioken? I think it would be a pretty cool "what if" to see Cell pull a goku and use the kaioken against gohan but i havent seen many people bring it up
I really enjoy these, can you do the same for the original Dragonball, GT, and Super?
7:30
That's it. Subbed. You're the new best DBZ-tuber.
These videos are so great! Love the effort put into them and you really expressed what each arc meant.
I feel like the Frieza arc is undoubtedly the most iconic in all of Dragon Ball, but I can’t help but feel like the Cell arc is the best one, at least in Dragon Ball Z. Trunks didn't grow stronger than vegeta. Vegeta stopped using additional power in that form because he knew of it's limits.
Pandora Games wrong watch it again seriously just did
EpicGlobe Entertainment that's what i thought too but I'll watch it again
" Dragon Ball In Depth" is my favorite format on this channel. Really appreciate the extra effort you put into these.
Yes
Thank you! The Cell arc analysis took forever. It's my favorite arc and I think it's the best for the reasons you mentioned as well as others.
XD I thought you meant Musical Themss
*Themes
+AMV Beast! GET OUT! (JK)
lmao
Cabba San Vegeta's Student I thought that too when I read the video's title
"...with great vengeance and furrrrious anger." lmao! Nice reference.
Dude you’re one of my favorite RUclipsrs already but these videos are helping explain the series to my girlfriend who’s completely new to the series! Great stuff!!

"Good, twice the pride, double the fall"
Are u gonna do this for the arcs of the original dragonball series
+kofi anderson That would be great
Probably
He must do it!!
Hopefully he does super
that pulp fiction quote though ... great video as always!
Even though the characters make stupid decisions I absolutely love the cell saga and it's my favorite in DBZ with my favorite characters in the saga being trunks and gohan and cell is my favorite dragon ball villain great video.

Dude. These theme vids are phenomenal. Your narration is incredible.
Cell's line to android 16 cracks me up.
Love the style of this series!
I liked the theme of the sons inheriting the legacy of the fathers in this arc. This in depth series is the best dragon ball related series on youtube
holy shit this series keeps getting better and better. Favorite one of the series so far on my favorite arc :)
Same here I love the cell saga too.
I freaking love this series. Seriously, it's just fantastic. Are you planning on doing episodes on the other Dragon Ball series?
I didn't think I'd get a timely lesson from a Dragon Ball analyst, but thanks +Geekdom101!
Oh snap bro! You used the Blue Winds Hope theme!! Love it
It's awesome.
Great job on this video, but I still say the Freeza saga is my favorite all time, but I get like the themes in this saga.
I still love these theme videos some of his best content

I had a lot of fun watching the video great job Geekdom
AOI KAZE NO HOPE!!!! -Thanks for picking that ending theme!
These are the best videos on your channel. Keep it up, man.
Yeah I think some people miss that Vegeta's motive wasn't to save the Earth in this arc, it was to prove a point and assert his dominance in order to one up goku and show everyone that he was the most powerful in the universe.

+guitarbass22 there are no themes in Super yet
+Geekdom101 Well, there might be but they involve closer examination after the run of the show is over. So I don't mind waiting. So far the show is going awesomely!
once he was told by gohan that the boy had hidden power. these little spoofs make me laugh, great vid
You know, its interesting that Trunks and Gohan weren't that close during this arc, you'd think Trunks would be fascinated with both Gohan and Vegeta
Been waiting for this
Ngl when it said "themes" I thought you were gonna talk about the badass OST Bruce Faulconer gave Cell.
thank you geekdom I've been waiting for this one love your vids and can't wait for more of these
these r my fav videos. keep it up. makes me think of DBZ in a new. light
Haha that ending!! Looking forward to hearing your thought on the many plotholes in this saga, and for the themes of the Buu saga.
Really great stuff! Thanks for taking the time to make this video/do the research for it! I love in depth!!!
Ooh another one! This'll be an interesting dissection
I love these:) Thanks:)
Ah, the Cell Saga, also known as the Vegeta Fucks Up Big Time saga.
That ending was too awesome lol.
Overall, this was a fantastic video.
the buu sagas theme is that candy and sugar sweets are awesome. but in all seriousness good vid big D
"With great vengeance and furious anger". Snuck in a pulp fiction quote
It's Also A Undertaker Quote From 1998
I love this arc and Cell is my favorite part

Man, I love those qualities about Trunks. I guess I sometimes overlook him, but he's a great character.
Really loved this video man great work
Yes
Great stuff Geekdom!!
thx very inspirational and i had tons of fun watching
Can't wait for the Buu Saga Themes!
🔥🔥🔥🔥 these are so good!
Super hyped for the buu arc video!!!!
+Emily Ford same
You know there is one theme that I think you missed, The pursuit of perfection.
Michael Crosby Thanks!
That ending clip with Cell tho! LMAO 😭😂😂
These video are making me feel better about myself
love the inclusion of the scans. great job D
Geekdom101 Goku also said to Bulma about Gero at least in the manga “He hasn’t made anything yet so it’s not nice to just beat him up” so he is justifying his reasoning for not going after Dr.Gero by not going after a thought crime.
Loved the presentation!!! Hope is what makes us strong
Yeahh !!! My wish is granted !! Now the Buu arc.
Great work, man!
Awesome transitions music!! ^^
I think a theme of the Android and Cell Saga as a whole is how people can create things then later be destroyed by their creations as Gero was when 17 killed him.
A detail I really liked is how Gohan beat Super Perfect Cell with one arm alluding to Future Gohan.
my favorite serious you do
Waited for months to see this😎
Great video as always. Your analysis on this saga really made me see how bad EVERYONE fucked up.
Thank you Geekdom!
hey big d i loved the video and sweet full color magna scans
12:45 funny how when I last heard that line back in middle school I didn't realize how weird it sounded out of context.
I loved this video keep up the good work
I liked each of the sagas has its own point of reference 1 The Saiyan saga is like a science fiction movie, 2 The Namek saga is like an alien/superhero movie 3 The Sel saga is like a time travel movie 4 The Boo saga is like a wizard movie
Thanks for making this video and covering the theme of the cell saga! Would you also add Dr Gero using Android 16 in memory of his son in the father & son theme?
great video geekdom
9:00 Frieza eventually did the same thing. "he who acquires their skills first is he who is the first to parish."
*LMAO!* "He should feel lucky, he's the first one to be touched by my Perfect body"
The narcissism is *real!*
2:48 and you will know, my name is Vegeta, when I lay my bast upon thee!
I actually have something to say about that, since Trunks warned them , whatever "damage" to the timeline is done.
