Awesome channel! I like the fact you don't really edit out the unscrewing and mention the torque measurements as well. Really in-depth and easy to follow along.
Appreciate that. Thank you for watching.
You are awesome dude! This is helping me a lot. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos :)
Appreciate the kind works dude. If you have any questions oration or concerns feel free to message e me
@@SLIGHT_ I've installed my gaiters today. Thank you for your help. You're the man!
Hi. Thanks a lot for sharing your videos about the rebel! I take a lot of good advices from you ;) TAKE CARE! Best regards.
Appreciate the feedback. Thank you.
Awesome video ! Thank you for putting torque specs as well !
Quick question, I can’t find any vinyl wraps available on Amazon , do you have a new/updated link ?
Thank you.
The link is working on my end. Let me search for another one.
VViViD+ Matte Metallic Black Vinyl Wrap (1ft x 5ft) www.amazon.com/dp/B072J2BVJS/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_Z8CQYD73RV36JCT81HAJ
@@SLIGHT_ thank you this worked ! What is your opinion on the tube covers ?
@@blakebrowne8428 I love them. I have the oem Honda ones on my rebel. Work well imo.
Hey man, great tutorial. Will definitely be using. I have a 2024 rebel and i got the Honda kit. In their instructions they mention discarding and replacing the caliper and fender bolts. Is this absolutely necessary? If so, would you know the reason? Thanks again!
@@davidpouler9992 inspect the bolts if needed, yet you should be fine. Some fasteners are classed as “single use parts” in this case I would see a problem with reusing them,
Great video!
Do the 2021 models have the same bolts and fork, nm?
Similar at up. Different part number.
The 2020 or newer has a collar at the bottom to accept the OEM gaiters. It’s exactly the same set up, so install is the same.
great job man... greatly appreciated!!
very helpful video! would you be able to take a closeup on where you placed the jack? did you put a 2x4 underneath it? looking to do the same project but had not been able to figure out where to lift it from
We used the crash bars on this one.
I will use mine to show this. Great suggestion.
@@SLIGHT_ thanks slight! a close up walk through would be extremely helpful, not even in the honda forums you can find the answer. some people grab it with a rope from the ceiling but not everyone has that luxury
I was wondering how did you jack up the rebel. I was gonna lift it up with the jack but not sure where the stable lifting area is. Any advise. Great video btw.
I have a video I’ll be releasing in this…
Basically you’ll need a lower tree stand.
Unless you have crash bars… then you can utilize them with stands.
Hey buddy can you do a video how to use those lift stands, the way you used, please!!!. That's a very good idea. Using engine guard to support for stands.
Unfortunately that bike is no longer accessible (sold)
I will see if I can show it on another Rebel. If not I will post a description (how to)
Excellent Video - I actually did this last weekend with your video teacking me ... one question ... did you use any thread lock? and if so where?
You are to use thread lock on items they don’t torque or if it calls for it. I use lock tight on many items yet most these bolts have a torque spec. None call for thread lock.
That said… I use a little lock tight (blue) on the front fender bolts as I have no spec I can find. All others I torque.
How did you find this job?
@@SLIGHT_ nice and easy actually. I do however wish Honda would use better quality hex screws. I rounded one of the mudguard bolts when tightening it down. So the next time i have to take it off will be a nightmare
Hello @SLIGHT_! Great video. I unfortunately had an accident and am changing the front forks. Maybe you know? Will the forks from the 2022 model fit in the 2018? (CMX500). I read that you wrote that there are some groves for a better fit of the gaiter. But otherwise the forks fit 1:1 from new rebel to old? Thank you
The bottom fork leg is slightly different… as well as the internal spring… yet to do what you’re looking to do (full replacement) this will work perfectly.
Great stuff!
Great video, is there a specific torque lb ft for the screws on the fender?
everything technically has a spec... I was unable to find this one. If I locate this I will attach it to this message. Thanks.
So I put 4inch risers on but my clutch cable is tight and I just ordered the same break line extender from your other video should I reroute my clutch cable , did you always have to reroute yours ?
I do because I don’t like how tight that line gets. It gives it some slack.
Nice video!! Appreciate it
Quick question, my forks have some bad rust pitting if I do this do you think it would help prolong there life after getting all the rust out?
Yes, this would aid in this.
How do you ensure the front tire is aligned properly? Are there alignment marks on the tubes from the factory, did you make reference marks, etc?
You’re not taking apart the triple. As long as you match the measurements from the top hats and the top clamp you’re fine.
Hello Slight. I was about to install my fork covers but i only wanted to put the one in the upper part only. Can i put it without removing the wheel?
The vinyl?
@@SLIGHT_ i actually bought the brushed alluminum tubes not the vinyl one
@@patricklouiseorencia1934 there are a few types of those. A solid type (need to drop the fork enough to fit them on.) or a split type. (Can be installed around the tube)
If you wish to send me more info on the type you have I can see if I can help.
@@SLIGHT_ i do have the solid ones. Is it okay to use a jack underneath my chasis to hold the motorcycle? Because i dont have the front paddock stand.
@@patricklouiseorencia1934 yes, there are many options people use. Even a good ladder works ;)
If you have an engine guard you can use these.
Do the gaiters have ventilation hole on it? I had gaiters installed but the fork push all air out and it get compressed to the fork all the time, even without ties. I am afraid it will have impact to the fork seal.
Interesting question. Short answer would be no they don’t have a vent hole.
I’ve had these on mine for 40plus km. With no issues to the fork seals. Did you go with the oem Honda boots or aftermarket. If aftermarket… what kit?
@@SLIGHT_ it’s not oem. I got it from the previous rebel owner. I’m thinking to make some tiny holes but I’m afraid it will allow dust to came in and collect them inside. I didnt know if Honda had oem boots. Should probably replace them with oem. Glad I found your channel. Your videos really help me out.
@@def-vlog the oem kit is for the 2020 and newer models. That specific kit only uses the zip ties to the top.
As for adding holes to your current set up. I would replace the lower zip ties and keep them slightly loose (if you are concerned about those seals) it shouldn’t be air tight, but tight enough for them to stay in place. If that makes sense.
Thanks for watching.
I want to jack the bike the way you did it by using stands on the crash bars but I don't know exactly where you used the jack? There's no solid frame under the bike, just the exhaust and oil pan.
I used a rubber pad, across both the converter and the oil pan. Having a spotter to guide it up straight.
I will be doing a video on jacking points in the near future.
Where did you get the front light cover brother
www.ebay.ca/itm/194268540921
Hey I know this is probably a silly question, but I've got a 2019 model rebel. Any idea if this kit will have fitment issues? As far as i can tell the forks look about the same. Cheers!
The forks changed slightly in 2020, by this I mean there is a ridge to accept the oem gaiter kit. The 2019 will accept the kit installed in this video, yet the fitment of the oem kit is slightly off.
Long story short, yes it will work in your case.
Ah thanks a heap! figured it was better to be safe than sorry.
How did you make sure your forks are properly aligned and you have them at the height they should be at the top?
There is a tolerance… I put it back to where it was. Fine tuned can be done by measuring the distance front the upper brace and the top of the caps.
why don't you make a video on how to extend the from fork 4" on a 2021 honda rebel 500 and what type of fork tube cap works on my bike thanks.
If I have this come up for sure I will make one.
Why did you install the gator with the crease at the front????
Great eye!!! This was overlooked on recording of this install. Yet we were able to twist them to hide the seam.
Thanks for the comment.
@@SLIGHT_ thank goodness, I started to twitch lol
@@MCmotoUSA I respect that. Lol. Again great eye to detail. Thanks again.
What did you spray under the vinyl? (Maybe I missed it)
I love your videos - that you don’t skip or edit out parts and that you don’t fly through it so fast it makes me watch a dozen times. Thank you!
Soapy water (A mixture of unscented baby soap and water) it helps move out the trapped bubbles. I did not note this… thanks for the great question.
hi what did you use on the right side to hold the axle when you tightened the bolt on the left? 6:44
1/2” Ratchet (can use a break bar) with 14mm hex/Allen
Reference time stamp 6:43, nothing crazy as you’re just holding it from moving for the initial tightening.
@@SLIGHT_ Appreciate the quick reply. Great channel and content. learned a lot from you. Thank you!
@@qinghaisun7337 appreciate the feedback. Hope this helps
Would like to see the jack points and where you put the stands.
Used the crash bar for stands, jack under the oil pan.
I bought a package deal, it has the gators and then metal upper fork covers. Would they be a bad idea as opposed to vinyl wrap? Bc of the turn signals?
I’d need to know the kit. Link??
Also vinyl is just a cheaper way to do it. The Honda kit I have on mine uses a plastic cover. As I had to move my signals down I had to change out the bolt and add spacers to the signal lamp mount.
@@SLIGHT_ ahh gotcha. It's just a cheap one from Ali express for the 2020 cmx500. But they show it being on there and it seems to fit perfectly underneath the turn signals.
What torque wrench would I need for a 2020 Honda rebel? Sorry I am a newbie.
A torque wrench is a torque wrench. Depends on what you have for sockets, 1/4, 3/8 or 1/2. Is that what you’re asking?
I am trying to find a digital one on Amazon (like yours) for the rebel?
@@stevedeltacharlie816 it’s not specific “for a specific bike”
I have the two. Snap on digital 1/2, Matco digital 3/8. I use them everyday… so that makes sense to spend the money on these… you can get a torque wrench from many places. Click types work as well. No need to use only the digital. That changes nothing on the outcome.
fortnine.ca/en/bikemaster-digital-torque-wrench?:pla-677165536550&gclid=Cj0KCQjwvLOTBhCJARIsACVldV3L2My-oTxkMftkDrpfTL4aBjIVRMo6nJyICLrNqqeuMYh994CtrjEaAviZEALw_wcB#493=5708
What is the torque for all 4 fender bolts. You didn’t mention the torque
I only set them to - Tight… as Honda doesn’t seem to show that torque. Yet they do show 1.1 lbs-ft for the reflector mounting nut. It would be small in any case.
Call me crazy and I might have to try it myself for 💩and giggles after removing the wheel, fenders caliper, and reflectors I wonder if you could slip it on from the bottom, I'm curious how far the small end will stretch being rubber, I could lube it with soapy water or tire slick it might make it past the mounting points lol.
I wish that would work…. The top part of the gaiter will not allow for that. The lower part of the fork is way to wide.
Only ways to complete this is as shown (from the top)… or cutting the gaiters and glueing them back together…
Thanks for the comment. Great idea. Wish that was an option.
@@SLIGHT_ It must be a dense rubber with no real give, I don't know because I'm not holding them lol don't we all wish it could though.
@@ThinkBeforeYouSheep yeah not much give. Plus if you stretch them too much they will not sit properly (if they don’t tear.)
If you try it out, let me know how it works.
Yet in all honesty you’re only a few fasteners away from doing them from the top.
@@SLIGHT_ That's true lol.
Sleek additions. Only change id make is hiding the seams on the gaiters. But that’s just me.
OCD ATTACK... Left gaiters mold lines facing forward.. Looks great though..
lol have had that pointed out before we have fixed that ;)
Thanks for your comment
Sorry what wrap is that? What benefit does wrapping provide?
Just vinyl wrap.
Link in description
Just used to black the top forks.
Where can I get the vinyl
Link in the description
Honda made both top and bottom, so those who don't want vinyl.
@@NoName-c4y7h the bottom kit if for the 2020 and newer as they have a different lower tube. This allows the lower fatter to sit in the proper position. They also use a clamp and not zip tie. A great option from Honda!
As for the collar. They use a metal sleeve with a rubber bushing. Again a great option (unless you need to move the signal.
Great information dude. I absolutely agree with you. Love the Honda kit.
that dude at 3:09 though lol
Yeah I didn’t realize until editing that the camera picked him up… all good though lol
Thanks for the comment
Did you just take the tire off because of the weight?
I took the tire as I wouldn’t be able to install the gaiters without removing the forks. To do that you need to clear the trees. You can cut the gaiters and glue them… yet I don’t really like that idea.
Thanks for watching!!
that guy on 3:08 xD
@@buuu1985 🤪 agreed, owner of the bike “impatiently waiting” for his bike to be completed lol.
