I'm surprised there's anything left in there to burn.
This is part of the old Seaview Asylum farm complex. The wide open floors are for tuberculosis patients who were thought to have benefitted from fresh air and sunshine. This entire complex once was around 350 acres and was self-supporting, growing produce enough to support themselves and sell the excess to the outside communities.
The majority of the hospital has been either phased out or consolidated with other services or sold off and developed.
Just thought I'd share a little history.
Thanks!
@terrisomers7843 Thanks for the tidbit of history about the place. I love old places like this, especially castles!! I lived outside of Poughkeepsie, NY where the Hudson River Psychiatric Hospitals were. They were beautiful old buildings, but most are gone now, and redevelopment had begun a couple or so years ago. Sad to see these old buildings get let go or burnt down, but one of the reasons I heard the Psych Center was being taken down was due to asbestos and lead paints. There was also a place called Bennett College in Millbrook, NY that went through different places over time. They have now demolished the beautiful building and made condos/apts. Lived and went to F.D. Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, NY, so that history along with Vanderbilt and more are all within minutes of my old stomping grounds!!!
Love when you head into Staten Island. Thanks Skyler for providing us with the fire coverage.
I try to spend the day there! Ha thanks for watching
yea but there nothing there to see@@SkylerFire
Wow. What a liability leaving this building standing vacant. It's a tremendously hazardous building. I am a person who likes to see older building preserved and reused. But there is nothing you can do with this to repurpose this. It needs to be leveled. Thank you FDNY for the great job always. Thank you Skyler for showing us this building. God's blessings to everyone here. God's Blessings to you Skyler. Please stay safe, healthy and warm. 🚒🤗🎉
got enough of those in nyc turn Staten Island to another ghetto no way@@BassBrigade2089
hey carol let them make it a church you can be a nun there since you mention God in a slang many times and by the way he not there if he was 343 firemen and many other would be alive still and 3 beautiful building still standing.
I think what impresses me the most about the FDNY is how thorough they are. They do everything they can to make sure they don’t get a call back. Not many around here do that. They also have a fire line on the big ones after going under control. It was a very cold day to drive over to Statin Island. But you got a great video out of it.
Thanks for the comment
Searching this building, both secondary and primary must have taken a while due to the size of this vacant structure. With the wind chill, that makes it a challenge for those FDNY members, and yes, very happy there were no injuries to anyone. Thanks again for braving the elements,Skyler😊😊😊.
Thanks for watching
Fantastic footage Skylar. That building looks so eery. They should restore buildings like that for homeless people to rent out rooms. Have a great day my friend, and stay safe ❤️🙂⚘️🚒.
Homeless trying to keep warm in the freezing temperatures we're having is going to be my guess how it started.
Great video once again!!!
Thanks 👍
Wow Skyler braving the cold weather. Great response by NYFD. 👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Great job with this one Skyler. I'm surprised there isn't more abandon buildings like this that catch on fire. My guess was a homeless person was trying to keep warm in the excruciating weather.
Love old buildings plus excellent video
Glad you enjoyed
Great coverage Skyler! All I could think about is all that frozen hose needing broken down and re-loaded!
Ha! Your right!
Awesome video Skyler. That is one eerie looking building. Wonderful job by the FDNY. Be careful out there...🤗🤗
Thank you, I will
TY Skyler!!! P.S. Please keep the cold up north where I grew up - 38 degrees this morning in Central Florida kinda sucks lol. Massive respect for what your members have to deal with in addition to the fire! I spent 10 years as the Tech Services Manager for a 7 city emergency dispatch in CA just south of LA. Gained so much respect for and knowledge from 7 police and 7 fire/EMS departments folks.
Hahahaha
Great video my lovely stay safe and warm. Love from UK 🇬🇧
Thanks
Great Video and very beautyful Building
That could have been a major problem if it had all of the windows great video stay warm and safe
For sure
Great video nice catch of Blue Thunder keep up the great work 🔥🚒🔥

Thanks
Great Job Skyler
Must be old Hospital see lots of snow on the ground must be cold there Skyler you are doing a good job I am watching in Bermuda 🇧🇲
Yeah it was! Thanks for watching
Great place to watch from.
@@davidweyant9356 David Weyant I live in Bermuda 🇧🇲.
Snow always makes things so eerily quiet, doesn't it?
Hahaha
Great video Skyler 👍🚒🔥
Thanks 👍
@@SkylerFire You're welcome 👍
Interesting building. Wonder what was on fire. Thanks Skyler. ❤
Large pile of rubbish
Nice video Skyler this hospital seems like its in nowhere land --- Debbie
cool video and have more videos to come
For sure! Thanks for watching
I think the ambulances and the fire Marshal vehicles were used in the third watch episodes and the hospital was also used in the TV series I think I saw a video on this before I don't remember where I saw the video some youtuber did a video of this building from third watch so i forgot hid name
Is there anything in place to record the simplex fire ground frequencies? Do the BCs or any of the companies have recorders in their rigs?
I believe the battalions
Great catch! Did 166 transmit a 10-70?
And they didn't listen close enough, thought it was 10-75!
Yup
I went yesterday to this location and it was pretty worn down. The stairs were being filled with dirt and everything is burned.
Lucky I was gonna go to this, but it was so cold, lol
Very cold lol
Great Vid ! What's the building at 5.56 ? Was it the hospital on-site fire service?
They are a Volly fire dept but they only do brush fires and outside fires now
Did I Hear Them Say No Working Hydrants?
None in that area no
What's that old MFNY 62 garage? Is that where the complex used to have its own fire brigade?
It’s still a Volly fire dept but they only do like brush fires they can’t go inside
Great video and was there any 10-45 reported
No thanks
@@SkylerFire welcome and okay
Any idea what was in that green garage? MFNY 62 I apologize if it was answered in comments as I scrolled but didn’t see anything mentioned.
Metropolitan Volly fire dept. they are an outside only fire dept. Assisting in brush fires
Skyler, i thought you were in the Pine Barron's. 😅
Hahaha
It’s about time snow made an appearance 😂😂
701 days!
Interesting incident, especially with regards to establishing water supply. Good to see some STATEN ISLAND action. Thanks.
I try!
What does the W mean after Engine 156? I’m probably overthinking it. lol
Cool video even though there was not much to see.
E156 was water resource
@@SkylerFire yep, I overthought it. That’s exactly what I thought it was. 🤪
Skyler, FDNY doesn’t relay pump often, right?
No not often. Engine Company 99% of the time goes right to the hydrant and stretches. If a bad hydrant they may relay or if no hydrant on that block they relay
@@SkylerFire I know this particular video they had no choice. The other zillion I’ve seen, like you said, most stretch or drive to hydrant. I’m with ya.
That place looks like a death trap if something got going good.
For sure!
Would have been some sight to see all floors going good 😢😢😢😢
Yeah I hear ya
How did you happen to be on Staten Island? Seems like an out-of-the-way place to go chasing.
I was at the firehouse….. clearly….
Did the volunteers show up literally next door to them
They don’t go inside. They only do brush fires lol
Not the first fire there by the looks of it.
Yeah prob not
What is the shed in rear of hospital? MFNY?
Metropolitan Volly Fire Dept. They really only do brush fires and outside fires
The engines sound like 2 stroke Detroit Diesels.
I see that the engines are Cummins now owned by Paccar.
Ok
Looks like it might have suffered from a fire before
Possible not sure
How long have the builder been abandoned?
Good question
I was curious too and looked up more about this hospital. Apparently it closed in 1961, so 63 years ago.
It’s been explored by Urbexers before. Basically, it was built near the turn of the 20th century as the tuberculosis sanitorium of a larger hospital complex, most of which is still open just behind it. Back in the day, keeping tuberculosis sufferers separate from the rest of the patients was really important because tuberculosis was *very* contagious, and an outbreak among already-sick people would be a disaster. That’s why they had their own separate building. By mid-century, tuberculosis was much less common and more treatable, so the sanitorium closed in the early 60s and has stood there abandoned ever since. It should have been demolished ages ago, but New York’s bureaucracy and spending priorities being what they are, it’s still there.
That building is f@*king CREEPY!
At least it wasn't 3 trucks loads of ldh dropped
Almost was
The place looks like something out of a horror.
For sure!
Great apt building for anti-vaxxers.
Ok
They should disband metropolitan fire association. There was a fire literally right in front of their quarters and they weren’t even around to provide the much needed assistance that the community needed
They are not allowed to go in so they are useless…. They are basically for brush fires
