Always be on the lookout for weather too. Even if it doesnt rain on you, storm clouds may mean its raining somewhere, and if you find yourself in a wash, canyon, or otherwise floodable area you could be in for a flash flood. I hear of people dying from those all the time, scary stuff.
I love that it almost looks like an outdoor gear store lol.. Thats my only saving grace from not buying more gear as I’ve no space otherwise I ‘ m buying more tents , sleeping bags & on n on the excitement never stops..
Good pair of tweezers. I always carry a small sandwich baggie and individually wrapped dude wipes. That way i only open what i need and I can put the used wipes in the baggie and pack them out. Hydrate really well the day before the hike helps as well.
A good booboo kit for the aforementioned abrasive environment. Depending on the desert ticks can be an issue too (they are in the desert I live in starting around March/April) so a good pair of tick removers and tweezers for pokey things. Knowing the temperature shift from day to night is important too and then packing accordingly. I've been on a trip that went from 80+ during the day to 25 before wind chill at night.
It’s the 6/4/23 in Australia. I’m about to do the Larapinta Trail in NT. Great video and advice for hiking in high temperatures. I will be hiking in the mid 30 degree Celsius and a little bit nervous. 😂
Good list. As a fellow ‘Desert Rat’ that puts many miles under foot in the Mojave and surrounding areas, the only other thing I’d add is a neck gaiter. Even with long sleeves and a wide-brim hat, your neck can easily be exposed.
I live in the Colorado River valley, and I agree with most of your gear. I would ditch anything inflateable. you can patch it, but I use foam pads. 40 years of dealing with the dez, and I love it!
USGS maps will typically list springs on the map. It’s not always reliable because a lot of springs aren’t perennial so one spring that was productive last time you were there might be dry the next time you visit. Usually though when there is one spring in an area there are a few.
Don't bother with the expense of the MSR Guardian. Just buy a Sawyer Squeeze and Browns Bushcraft Millbank Bag - And if you don't have time to wait for your water to pre-filter in a Millbank Bag, then you're doing it (camping) wrong - Stop being in such a rush...
Thought it said "Dessert Backpacking"... the possibilities are endless😁🍨🍦🍰🍪🥧
Now that I want to try! lol
hmmm. Now that'd be a winner! haha!

Whoa! You look like Vincent Van Gogh with that hat! As always, great advice! Keep the videos coming!
What's that? Can you speak into my good ear? Thanks!

Yes temp fluctuations can be ridiculous!
this is so helpful! I'm planning on taking the Courier's Path from Fallout New Vegas and this is great thanks a lot!

Good point! Yeah keep that neck covered!
Glad I watched this video becaude im planning my first hike near tucson amd had no idea poop couldn't be buried.
What about a tarp for sun protection and rest time.

Desert = HOT days and EXTREMELY COLD nights! Grab your bulky sleeping bag 😆🤗
The hot and cold of the desert, always mystifying
Bring a comb in case of jumping cactus burrs. You can flick the off with it.
Man that mystery ranch backpacks are CADILLAC of outdoors activities 😋
You know it!

Can you send the link to that fantastic sun hat!
Anybody have recommendations for light weight cotton sun hoodies?
Good video, keep up the good work
Thank you! Onwards!
One question regarding trails. I there an information source regarding trails for backpacking that are no open to ATVs and the like?
I carried all my water. 8L was HEAVY! But I balanced that with minimal food carry.
8L water hauling is brutal. But sometimes you gotta do it.
I walked 160km across the South West of Tasmania Australia, and I had to carry 12 litres... It's tough...
I just eat a lot of canned food for the salt. Little bit heavy, but way cheaper than MREs. And you shed the weight over time.
Nice Hike 🚶 on youngster 😇
haha thanks!
L&T = Laundry and Toilet? Yes? Just for us that don't have those "TLA's" down pat?!
LNT = leave no trace

Good tip! Although I'm personally not a fan of the Sawyer Squeeze system.
You didn't say "literally" enough times :-)
Millennial's gonna Millennial. The way they use the word it is totally meaningless (literally meaningless?).
pack clear ski goggles
if wind forecast .
That flying sand will do your eyes in and no …sunglasses wont help.
You are the living version of the van gogh self portrait painting. I don't mean this as an insult, just don't go cutting your ear off.
First off, cool hat. Everything sounds cool except carrying out your poop. I'll just dig a deep hole and bury it.
