@@marieherbert7318 You'd be amazed at how accurate self tracking is if you pay attention. If you cannot feel your heart spike and are not used to know how fast a spike is then I suggest you start paying attention to the body - mindful awareness does wonders.
Talbot ... you are THE pioneer ....We, the Triathlon fans LOVE Lionel .... the reason we love him, is hugely due to you and your teams efforts ... great video. CoachW
Def need another of these LS vs Talbot vids - in swimming, then running (I think Talbot has run 16 min 5ks!?!) and then more random event like ocean kayaking. Love to see pros racing like normal people!
Lionel - you need to do more videos like this. Being a "back of the pack" 54YO age grouper, seeing how your fitness and ability stacks up to the rest of us is a brilliant insight.... great video, one of your best...
So, I don't usually comment on vids, but I rather enjoyed this video from you - changed things up a bit. Nice to see a bit of joviality and humor, here. Thanks for mixing it up!
I really enjoyed watching this one. I actually thought Talbot would kill Lionel on this one. 100-110 would be really hard for me to keep. Talbot, you should be proud of the effort. Nice job!
That was great fun. You're personalities work very well together. I am anticipating another... Can you get Talbot to do a run and swim with you? It gives great perspective for all of us that are not a beast like Lionel. Never miss an episode.
Great vid! Also, all class by Sanders when breaking down the relative effort and gracious in victory. It vividly shows how much stronger an elite athlete is! Talbot is a legend, we need more vids but keep Lionel at 100bpm max!
Roger C yeah right. He’s a triathlete, who started like most others, now helping people avoid mistakes, answering questions and bringing content to us that we otherwise wouldn’t have access too. (Exclusive stuff with the pros such as training and tips from them etc.) So yeah i think that’s a bit harsh
Great video. Loved watching and seeing the comparisons with normal people vs LS. Please keep these coming. Thanks for filming and the editing work involved to put this out.
I whole heartedly enjoy both videos. It's the journey that is important and what intrigued me to start triathlons. It was awesome meeting Lionel at La Quinta 70.3 last year and completing the race after 4 months of training. Still training for the next race and a full Ironman once it's safe to race again. Thank you Lionel and Talbot for inspiring people to start their own journey.
I'm a little OCD but I kept wanting to Mr.Talbot helmet straps and tuck them on the inside of his sunglasses rather than hanging out and over! Great job guys refreshing footage!
LOL Talbot, your heart was definitely working overtime. I couldn't help but laugh when the HR monitor comparison popped up at mile 0... haha nice video fellas
Great vid guys. Ouch!!!, both at TC's effort (way to tough it out!!) and LS's Lagerstrom vid slam. Funny. I truly look forward to TC's and Lager's videos. Both high quality. I just wish the bet was for new chin straps on LS's helmet.
Ok Talbot I think you're going to have to do that one again but with the glasses over the helmet straps. Or was that your secret tactic to aggravate Lionel so much that his heart rate would go over 110 :p
I really appreciated this from both ends...from both lionell just showing how much of a monster he is and talbot literally emptying his tank. Seriously.....he was a man on a mission from God it almost seemed.
Yeah honestly that effort. 180 bpm avg. for almost 2½ hours. Insane.. good spirits and grit. I'm not even sure I'd have the will to hold an effort like that for an hour.
8 cylinder vs. a 4 cylinder. Of course there are ways to train that target structural adaptations to increase stroke volume. Great video guys. MTB great Ned Overend had a max HR of 165 bpm and could race at 161 bpm.
Something is going on with Talbot's heart or hopefully just a HRM issue. A HR of 120 BPM while standing still is not normal; A HR of 100BPM or greater while not exercising (or while standing still) is called Tachycardia. There are different types of Tachycardia and most (if not all) of them are caused by an underlying arrhythmia. Also, we can look at it this way..... At the end of the video Talbot's average HR was shown to be 180BPM. We know from the video that his HR range during the ride was about 169 to 196BPM. This is extremely high no matter how you look at it. For many average and above average cyclists 170 BPM is near the upper end of the lactate threshold range and certainly 180BPM is near Vo2max or anaerobic threshold depending on who you are. By definition, if you are operating at upper end LT or Vo2max, you just can't sustain that intensity for the length of time that it took Talbot to finish that particular ride. Obviously a person's HR will vary at each of these physiological states but I don't believe that Talbot is an outlier as far as his HR values are concerned. I think something is off.
I rode my bike around the parking lot trying to get my wahoo to sync with power meter for 5 mins also I had just had my third coffee and was extremely nerves standing in 104 degrees about to race Lionel. I don’t have a standing 120 heart. My resting it 53. All good man. And my hr me is correct it read pretty much spot on with my optical hr as well.
That was an incredible performance by talbot. Honestly I wonder he was able to talk afterwards that is crazy. Big respect this dude has an iron psyche. Respect to Lionel to for handling this very well
Yeah he’s not a pro or anything but he is certainly no slouch as an age grouper at this point. He’s seen a lot of steady improvement the last few years.
🏄♀️🧘♀️ laughed a few times, very entertaining.. I’m a yogi so I don’t believe heart rate is a worry for me, although I am impressed by your data collection!!
Sanders should invite other riders and ride at 110bpm to see what BPM the other rider gets. You could make a collection of videos like this. Try different levels of riding partners, like racers of different levels: cat 5, cat 3, cat 1, pro, different levels of triathlete. Just my 2c. But this time stay at 110bpm not 102-105. Just a thought. Thanks for this video guys!!!
Interesting that Lionals breathing (while real time commentating) seemed quite laboured for 103bpm. I just don't get the correlation. I would be over 170bpm with his breathing pattern in mid conversation during extended effort! Puzzling!
That was actually an interesting comparison. It's actually a club ride fitness person versus a pro triathalete can't believe how low lionels rate is. That's in another league then most.
Awesome stuff. And % HRR (i.e. Heart Rate Reserve, i.e. Max HR - Resting HR) is even better than % MHR as it allows for low RHR. Your RHR would be different to Talbot's surely ...
My HR was higher watching this video from my sofa, then Lionels HR riding uphill.
Hahahahaha same, what am I doing wrong in life 😂😂
bahahaha! made me laugh out loud
You have a heart rate monitor while sitting on the sofa ... interesting

Talbot vs Triathlon Taren and Lionel vs Phil Gaimon all at the same time!
YES!
Yeah, Phil and Lionel should definitely race for a cookie. :D
Anyone but this annoying ginger dude. Even Mussolini

Agreed! I Probably wouldn’t be pushing hard if it wasn’t for Talbot’s editing and audio of Lionel and all the other triathletes.
Rest In Peace Talbot

Oh this was so much fun!! Great job guys - can't wait for the rematch - and with Taren!
Did not feel like a 20 minute video. Would be interesting to see more comparisons. And see how quickly talbot improves🙂
Great vid!
Also, all class by Sanders when breaking down the relative effort and gracious in victory.

Talbot is a legend, we need more vids but keep Lionel at 100bpm max!
That was brilliant, loved it 😂 My husband and I really look forward to your videos, awesome fun xx
1 minute in and I'm hooked 😂😂
Edit: one of the coolest videos I've watched. Enjoyed every minute of it. Lionel you take superhuman to another level!💪
At the end of the day, Talbot beat Taren. Legend.
This is all that matters. Tarren is a clown.
Charlie Guinn. That’s pretty mean. He helps a lot of people.
Roger C yeah right. He’s a triathlete, who started like most others, now helping people avoid mistakes, answering questions and bringing content to us that we otherwise wouldn’t have access too. @@rogerc23 no Taren helps himself with a lot of actual bullshit info
JR i agree and yeah that might happen
Now let’s see it the other way: film and edit a short video, Lionel gets the full pro gear and Talbot gets an iPhone and iMovie.
2020 will be the year we had awesome RUclips content like this from pros. Massive effort, full respect Talbot!
This is one of the few HONEST and GENUINE channels as far as I know. Cheers Lionel + Talbot!
Great video. Loved watching and seeing the comparisons with normal people vs LS. Please keep these coming. Thanks for filming and the editing work involved to put this out.
More videos like this.Great job Lionel !!!
I love how Lionel gave Talbot the big up with effort. Loved the vid, fun :)
I agree with everyone else. Love seeing the pro comparison to age grouper. Best video yet!
I liked the video purely based on the Lagerstrom comment LMAO
I concur, that was money
I honestly think Talbots videos have more substance than Lagerstrom’s. This, and other videos, are so much fun to watch!
that was so good haha
I like both guys’ videos a lot. So different!

great video, so much fun watching 🤙🏻😄
That was SUCH A FUN video!!! Great job finishing the course Talbot!
Great video and nice role reversal. Sure you're coach is happy Lionel building the engine like that. Now onto the Windtrainer for me.
Loved the video. Great viewing. Lot of fun. Keep them coming.

This was a great video!!! You guys have inspired me to add this climb to my bucket list. Well done!!
LOL Talbot, your heart was definitely working overtime. I couldn't help but laugh when the HR monitor comparison popped up at mile 0... haha nice video fellas
Excellent perspective on heart rates. Thanks guys
Fun video, gentlemen....enjoyed the HR perspective at the end!
wow, talbot's HR was 123BPM before even riding... no wonder he races at 197BPM!
Mine is as high as his in races But when im Standing before a ride i have 70 or smth
