Next James Gang hopefully will be "Walk Away" then maybe Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way". Another great 70's band - Mountain - "Mississippi Queen" - a real banger! Thanks for bringing back some great memories of the 70's!
One of my all time favorite musicians. Joe is a monster guitarist. Your take about them ripping off Footloose was fascinating!!! I've never heard that one before but it makes so much sense.
Humble Pie, The Band, Johnny Winter, Mountain, Derek and the Dominoes, Marshall Tucker Band, Steve Miller band, so there’s a few off the top of my head that you may or may not heard of, enjoy your rock and roll ride.
Joe Walsh has an album titled, THE SMOKER YOU DRINK, the PLAYER YOU GET. He’s a hoot. I think I’ve just heard this song most of my life and have taken for granted that everyone has heard it.
In case you didn't know, the lead guitarist and singer Joe Walsh later went on to become a member of The Eagles. You might want to check out some of his solo stuff too, "Rocky Mountain Way" is a good one.
That’s Joe Walsh on lead guitar and vocals. You’ve probably already heard him if you have heard the Eagles, but listen to his song Rocky Mountain Way. Similar funkiness to this one. 🔥🎸
A lot of bands will do a little jam at the beginning of every day of rehearsals, Joe & The James Gang just happens to call those little jam sessions "funks". Somewhere early on, they decided to record them. Someone heard jam, or funk, #49 and said they needed to work it to a song. Need I go on? Also, TONS of good Joe Walsh solo material out there. Another band you should check out if you want some funk-blues-rock is The J. Geils Band, and a cool jump-off song would be the studio version of "(Ain't Nothin But A) Houseparty". Just be forewarned, you dive in face-first whether you want to or not!
It never gets old watching guys half my age or more thrill to the same music that took me to a different place in my mind when it mattered, finishing my stint in the US Army after returning from Vietnam. It's great to be rockin' alongside Joe as both us sail ever joyfully through our 7th decades. Thanks for helping keep it alive, TNT.
When these guys came out I loved them! When I have told folks about them they looked blank at me! Your reaction is a breath of fresh air to me! Enjoy yourself! You made my day!!!!
You've heard him, it's Joe Walsh (Rocky Mountain Way). He was in the James Gang, then solo and then with the Eagles. For more James Gang a good one would be Walk Away.
Joe has a interesting sense of humor as shown in his song Life's been good. Rockin song and it shows his personality. He's a great guitarist and singer on many other of his solo, James Gang and Eagles songs.
'68 '69 '70 '71 - You just described the era of The Doors. I know you've heard them before but you haven't heard them all. Go for some of the less mainstream songs. Alabama Song, Peace Frog, Horse Latitudes, Indian Summer. They are the shit!
Oh..,my man l have been touting..,1968-to 1973 as truly one of the greatest times in rock n roll.., EVER! Glad to hear my brother from another mother think the same way!
I can't really say why, but it chokes me up seeing a young black guy diving into music he never would have listen to. I'm so glad music has led you down this rabbit hole
Having grown up in Macon, GA, I was so privileged to have seen so many great 70's bands (including James Gang). Head East was another ("There's Never Been Any Reason"); Boston; Aerosmith; the Allman Brothers; Wet Willie; Atlanta Rhythm Session; Marshall Tucker Band; Parliament Funkadelic; Brothers Johnson ("Strawberry Letter 23"); the Commodores ("Easy," "Brick House..."); Johnny Winter & James Cotton; ...
I've seen Joe several times, mostly with the Eagles, but a couple of times solo. In 1981, he performed at the LA Forum. He had two drummers in his band, each set up on opposite sides of the stage. 1981 was the year of a baseball strike, so to introduce "Funk #49", he said his drummers re-worked the song because of the baseball strike. During the drum solo, the drummers tossed their drumsticks back and forth between them and never missed a beat! Incredible sight. Joe still performs this with the Eagles in concert, as well as other songs from the James Gang and his solo career - like "Life's Been Good", "Walk Away", "Rocky Mountain Way", and occasionally "Turn to Stone", "Average Ordinary Guy" and "Help Me Make It Through The Night".
My father blasted this for his 24th birthday. Threw a big celebration for himself hahaha. All the invited guests and many neighbours came to dance. There were neighbours dancing outside the house too.
It Is the summer of 1972 and I'M a fifteen-year-old kid who enjoys going to the neighborhood candy store to play on the pinball machine and listen to the Jukebox with my friends!! Our two favorite songs on this particular jukebox were Funk #49 by the James gang and Paranoid by Black Sabbath! Almost 50 years later both of those songs Still Rock!!!! Great reaction!!! Can't really go wrong with any James Gang Song!!!
I love this song, too. Bought it at the time and really enjoyed it. Joe Walsh is the lead guitarist and lead in the short-lived band. He did some solo work then joined the Eagles. This guy knows his guitar stuff!
Joe Walsh is one of the most gifted and original guitarists alive. His guitar sound can shift from sloppy and "chunky" to smooth and melodic in a heartbeat. He's had a very successful career with the James Gang, solo work and his amazing guitar work on songs like "Hotel California" with the Eagles. Joe has also toured with Ringo Starr and His All-Starr Band. He's much admired by some of the world's greatest guitarist, including Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton. Along with his talent, one of his greatest attributes is his sense of humor. You have to check out his song "Life's Been Good". It's a rocker...and it's funny as hell.
GREAT classic rock tune you pulled up! Funk #49 and Joe Walsh. I know Joe is a legend, but he often gets lost in the shuffle of THE greatest rock musicians ever, yet most everyone I knows loves the guy. The James Gang could REALLY just throw down, for sure.
Joe Walsh is one of the all time great guitarists. Listen to his solo work like Rocky Mountain Way and then listen the Eagles, his solo with Don Felder on Hotel California is one of the best ever recorded.
Each member of the Eagles were so talented BUT, not one could match the many sides of Joe Walsh. T, a must is Joe Walsh at Daryl’s House (Daryl Hall) - Rocky Mountain Way. It will blow your mind!
So this is Joe Walsh on guitar and vocals....absolutely legendary. Underrated but never forgotten. He had a solo career and also played with the Eagles. Other songs to check out (whether solo or not)..."Rocky Mountain Way," "Walk Away," and "Life's Been Good." He was also in "The Drew Carey Show" for a stint as the guitarist for Drew's band. Very hippy/psychedelic dude. And from what I've heard...a very stand-up guy and class act.
Nobody mentioned them because we had such a cornucopia of music when we were young, we can't remember them all. Plus our memories aren't what they should be because of age (and possibly substance abuse during our misspent youth 😁). Next, check out Walk Away by the James Gang, which was even more popular. Meadows by Joe Walsh is also great.
You need to check out , Elephant's memory - "Mongoose". A great jam. Great story too. The band Elephant's Memory went on to back John Lennon on a couple of his solo projects. This is a song they did shortly before they met up with Lennon. Done about 1970. If you do search for it on RUclips do not play the video with the blue record label pictured. That one is terrible sound quality and the reverb has been messed with. Actually, there is a newer upload of the song with lyrics if you can find it. Has a green jungle scene pictured. Good sound quality too.
Dude, there is another RUclips video of these guys performing this tune on the Howard Stern show some time within the past ten years. They’re all old guys now, but it’s just as rocking and on the edge as they were way back when.
I heard this song so many times as a kid. Then later again as an adult now and then you'd hear it in commercials and other stuff. Finally learnt how to play it some years ago. Don't know how anyone could've missed this one. It's a classic! But I suppose younger people just aren't that aware of classic rock.
I just found your channel and I’m so glad you are doing this old rock because as you said “good music holds up.” it’s nice to see that you really appreciate it! I will be watching!!
Joe Walsh was in a few bands. James Gang was an early band back in the late 60s early 70s when a lot of rock bands were coming out. Our album collections of all the band in that time frame was nonstop. At 65 it's great to hear my albums come alive. still have my albums and some day my grandchildren will check them out. Hear them now asking WHAT'S A TURN TABLE?

Great reaction, and I'd like to second the recommendation for "Mississippi Queen" by Mountain made in an earlier post. I would also recommend The Band "The Weight" (The Last Dance version with the Staples Family), " Up on Cripple Creek", and The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down". Sliding into the Mid 70s, check out Nazareth " Hair of the Dog" and Foghat "Slow Ride.
I loved your reaction 18 seconds in, it was like a deaf person that just heard music for the first time. The 70’s we had the crappiest weed and the best music
It's so much fun to "search" into the history isn't it? Just in the last ten years or so...I discovered the pioneer blues greats like Elmore James, T-Bonne. JLH, et al. Enjoy your journey man...it gets deeper....real deep! :-)
James Gang put out a lot of good music, Walk Away, The Bomber, Tend My Garden, and many more, plus Joe Walsh's solo work was great as well, Rocky Mountain Way, The Confessor, and so many more that I can't even think of cause I'm so damed tired, I need to get some sleep lol
This song has been in TONS of movies.. Guardians of the Galaxy hits me first up.. then Invencible.. then Joe Dirt... etc.. so many.. this song is epic. I miss when music was really music.. with heart and real voices.. not auto tune and BS.. Great share
One of the guitarists. Tommy Bolin also played on Deep Purple's Come Taste The Band, James Gang are definitely an underrated band as I'm too young to be around back in 1970 I've only discovered them in recent years.
please man, you will absolutely LOVE the songs, Turn to Stone from the Barnstorm album and The Bomber. Joe Walsh is my single favorite rock artist of all time !!!
If you’re into funk, by all means, check out James Gang’s “Ashtonpark”...your ears will love you for it! Joe Walsh’s guitar style is pure one-of-a-kind genius. P.S. loved your reaction to this! (Also give a listen to their “Funk #48”)
2 bands you probably haven’t heard of: Montrose (1973), “Bad Motor Scooter,” and “Space Station #5.” J. Geils Band (1974), “Must of Got Lost,” and “Detroit Breakdown.” Enjoy your journey through the 60’s & 70’s!!!
Anything Joe Walsh played had that funky southern rock sound. A lot of people wonder why southern people like Rock so much, maybe it has a lot to do with that funky bluesy sound that seems to creep out of a lot of these bands. Satisfies a craving we don’t even realize we have. 😆
Joe Walsh is the man!! From the James Gang to his stint with the Eagles and also his solo career!! What a talent!!
That was no stint.
Don't forget Barnstorm!
That's how I got my user name. 😉
In a perfect world, the entire planet would recognize Joe Walsh's sheer brilliance.
Jim Fox on drums. Dale Peters on bass and harmonies. One of the great rock trios of all time.
We all know Joe, but cheers to Jimmy and Dale. Come on!
This album cover had a script on back that said "Made loud to be played loud". Great reaction to a classic!
Next James Gang hopefully will be "Walk Away" then maybe Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way". Another great 70's band - Mountain - "Mississippi Queen" - a real banger! Thanks for bringing back some great memories of the 70's!
Yes those are all great ones!
"Tend My Garden" has always been my favorite James Gang song.
Add Joe’s “Life’s Been Good To Me”
Leslie West with Mountain, great guitarist!
Joe Walsh went on to be solo, and in the Eagles...legendary... ;-)
I am just glad to be a kid in the 70's - the neighborhood was rocking with music like this all summer long.

I Don't Need No Doctor and Black Coffee is different too. Steve Marriott was a great loss
Probably didn’t get mentioned because you’ve already heard this guy …you just aren’t realizing it yet. Joe is the man!! Gotta love him😂😊
I wish Joe Walsh was my dad
@@romanrodriquez3816 You'd have had a few years as a kid where Pops was "acting funny"... thank god for Joe getting sober. He was on a tough path.
And that’s how they used to do that, Rock On, young dude
Jimmy Fox is a beast of a drummer. Totally underrated.
Jimmy Vox is nasty on drums.
#49 always gives my goose-bumps! Absolutely awesome!
I got to see this band in concert, great show. Us boomers got to see all the cool bands live !!!
Joe Walsh has an album titled, THE SMOKER YOU DRINK, the PLAYER YOU GET. He’s a hoot. I think I’ve just heard this song most of my life and have taken for granted that everyone has heard it.
I was about to say the same thing.
Robin trower- Day of the eagle

In case you didn't know, the lead guitarist and singer Joe Walsh later went on to become a member of The Eagles. You might want to check out some of his solo stuff too, "Rocky Mountain Way" is a good one.
And 'Life's Been Good'.
Indian Summer is a great album.
That’s Joe Walsh on lead guitar and vocals. You’ve probably already heard him if you have heard the Eagles, but listen to his song Rocky Mountain Way. Similar funkiness to this one. 🔥🎸
First of all, I was 15 when this came out. I about lost my mind. It was new, fresh and jamming. Loved your reaction !!!
IMO, the 70's was the greatest decade in music. So diverse, from rock to ballads to disco, to folk, etc. You name it, it happened in the 70's.
A lot of bands will do a little jam at the beginning of every day of rehearsals, Joe & The James Gang just happens to call those little jam sessions "funks". @@bobcorbin3294 Yes it is, I was to mention it too.
That's interesting. Good music sometimes starts off as either experimentation or a mistake that some one realized was actually gold. Music is life
James Gang is awesome. Walk Away is another good one by them.

Joe Walsh sold one of his Les Paul’s to Jimmy page. That became Jim pages number one guitar.

The Greatest music came out of the 60's and 70's!!!! Joe is totally awesome and one of the all time greats!!!👍👌✌😎
