Those rules of journalism are hilarious, it perfectly describes everything the news isn't and everything it fails in. They can't even follow their own rules that they wrote.
Fr 😣
True
Games award.
Perfectly clear that this is made by specialize journalism
There are still a lot of journalists who follow these rules, but sadly, they arent as flashy. It doesn't sell. That is the really sad part.
I'm a journalism major in college and the News Writing course LITERALLY told us to sensationalize things if we could get away with it. They're teaching reporters today to be dishonest. That's the bottom line
Damn
Jeesus fuck
The hell do you go to college? I'm a journalism major too and I've never once heard that from a professor
I got one of the communication too and never told that. However in my social politics class it was acknowledged that being a politician doesn't equal as learning politics or true politics. My prof said basically in the real world you have to become a sleazebag to even dreaming to be a politician. I think the same could be said about being a journalist with working in a pretty big company could cost you your integrity and ideologies.
Man, I'm sorry you have to put up with that nonsense. >_
I always noticed that moment with J. Jonah Jameson lying about Peter Parker! He's such a great character and J. K. Simmons was so perfect in that role!
Yeah, Peter had litterly just left the room. And JJJ might be an asshole, but of course he wasn't going to give up Peter to a murderer like Green Goblin.

Why do they still employ Clarke he clearly doesn’t listen to his boss and goes rouge all the time
Because they know he is Superman, they just don't say, becauase ethicaly it would not benefit Clarke to reveal that information.
He is just way too good at going rogue ig idk
They know Clark is Superman and are afraid he will destroy them if they say anything bad about him. Waiting until they have kryptonite to protect themselves.
Can we get a theory on how big Phineas and Ferb's backyard was? Every episode it looked different sized. Like, how could it possibly fill hundreds of people for concerts and stuff, and then turn into a regular backyard? Also: how the radish did they get a full beach in there?!?
The fences could retract into the ground.
How the radish? 😂
The beach was outside the backyard
Angel Summer yes bitch, asking the real questions here!!
YES!
One of my favourite moments in the Superman lore is in the animated "Death of Superman" movie in the current DC animated movie universe
When Clark reveals his secret to Lois she has a complete panic attack over it and actually says "You've written about yourself in the news! That's so unethical!"
And then I laugh as Clark brushed it off by saying "Only a couple of times" as if breaking the law 4 or 5 times is better than doing it 20 times in the eyes of law enforcement
I loved that scene 😂
As if breaking the law ≠ immorality 😏
Reject legalism, embrace ethics
@@speeddemonji9547 well its still unethical
@@juanlargacha1502 well true, i just don’t care if it is illegal or not
And hey, he’s not perfect 🥴
Technically speaking breaking a law a few times is more favorable in the eyes of law than breaking it like 50 times
JJJ, he hates masked heroes, but at least he's ethical in basically every other category, the Daily Planet could really benefit from him
@Andrew Lange He paid for the procedure to give the Scorpion powers so he could help create someone who would get rid of Spider-Man because he was under the assumption that Spider-Man might've been working with some of the villains, I don't think during the procedure did anyone tell Jonah that the Scorpion was insane or had a poison fetish
@Andrew Lange Ok, yeah, that's a good point. I don't really have a counter argument for that
That is however a fairly big aspect that he really should change.
Like I get it his opinion is understandable and I will even agree with him...vigilantisme is illigal for a reason but that is not for him to comment about in his papers.
He is throwing in his own opionions and papers/News should be completly without any subjective matters. They should only be talking about the truth and nothing but it.
he does say what spidey has done right in spider-man ps4
How is he ethical when he reports the exact opposite to what happened?
Like persistently framing Spiderman for Crimes he is stopping?
Despite the reporter that was on the scene saying how it really was?
That is kilometers of the truth and entirely based on his own bias.
Plus there is this other theory, that he only hid peters name because he is a cash cow, not for any integrity reason:

I think some journalists should read up on these rules of Journalism.

I don't think there's a single newspaper out there that follows that code of ethics.

Not in the US, at least.

I really didn't give JJ Jameson enough credit, that Green Goblin lie required damn balls of steel.
Bainbow He also did the same thing in Spectacular Spiderman when it is Rhino who was threatening him.
Read the Ultimate Spider-Man comics some time, JJ is given some of the most amazing development I've seen in a Marvel piece, going from his classical "Get me pictures of Spider-Man!" to having a heart to heart with Peter after learning who he is and even paying his college and actively protecting the Identity of Miles Morales and honoring Peter after he dies. He even goes down shooting Green Goblin in the face to keep his integrity.
Finally, J. Jonah Jameson getting the recognition he deserves!! Thank you✌️💚
this is also saying spider-man is ethical because even though he takes pictures of himself he doesn’t write the stories he just gives pics he doesn’t influence the paper

This kind of seems likes matpat was just pissed about the horror show of modern news coverage and journalism and found this as a good way to share the information under the guise of superman.
One could say, which makes information better, double because I'm pretty sure that a lot of people shares his sentiments.
Honestly, who isn't?
I'm kinda annoyed at the entire thing that sets all this off. Perry's pissed off because Clark isn't reporting on the stories that have been assigned, but this video forces a journalistic integrity rant anyway, even though it doesn't really fit.
@@InfernosReaper and not to mention him starting the theory off of JJJ is dumb enough cause JJJ even though protectes his employees, has single handedly violated most of the rules that exist.. He literally manipulates the stories and makes sure that Spiderman is demonized in every way possible, kinda pissed that he doesn't mention that
In the comics he paid to create multiple supervillains to KILL Spiderman
I never thought of the fact he never betrayed Peter Parker
Fun fact J. Jonah Jameson is an amazing person in the comics he's a mutants right activist pro LGBT activist he takes a bullet to save Spider-Man and after Spider-Man's identity is revealed to the world he refused to let anyone slander his name the only reason he doesn't like Spider-Man is because he keeps his identity secret meaning he cannot be held accountable for his actions
JJJ is not for the gays
@@thegreatpiginthesky3904 I believe J. Jonah Jameson would disagree with you
The problem is, the Sam Raimi Universe, and to some extent the MCU also embellished his characterization, making him into a crafty and slanderous person.
Funnily enough, as Matpat himself covered in a different episode, the PS4 game version of J. Jonah Jameson was much more accurate to the comic book lore in terms of his characterization.

Let's add another irony log on the fire in the form of a cartoon series that had too big of an idea for its own good, Larryboy. For those who don't know, Larryboy is a superhero spoof in the world of Veggie Tales. This form of the most famous vegetal cucumber eventually got a short-lived spin-off flash cartoon called Larryboy the Series. And this is where Big Idea might have struck moral genius whether this was intentional, or one very lucky joke. Just like Superman and Spiderman, Larryboy works at the news printing company, the Daily Bumble, as a means to stay up-to-date with criminal activity in the city of Bumblyburg. However, he isn't a journalist and he isn't a photographer, but a custodian. As for the reason why, the episode throws the line 'it was the only job he was qualified for' to complete the punchline. However, since Larry can't influence the news going on, it makes the Daily Bumble the most reliable news source with a superhero on staff.
I loved VeggieTales as a kid (its an abomination nowadays) and youre right. The position of janitor is the most unbiased and neutral position he can take.

Yeah that's what makes JJ lovable. At first you think he's this sensationalist asshole, but then you see that beyond that he's a remarkably good person. You get to enjoy his hardass nature while knowing he gonna do all he can within reason for those around him.
That's kinda the reason I dont dig on the new games portrayal of JJJ. They turn him into Alex Jones when really he's Marvel's Perry

What always got me about Clark in Nightman V Dayman is that he NEVER DOES HIS JOB. Clark had one duty throughout the events of the film, do the sports section. Instead, he types up a manifesto on how much batman sucks and goes over his editors head to get it published without any approval, AND HE STILL NEVER DOES THE SPORTS SECTION.
He'd die rather than doing that sport section
I mean sports are boring IMO. Especially if you're a superhero with actual super powers. Take American football. Superman. Anna Rose Well if we're going by real world science it shouldn't be possible. Aang freezing himself would've caused irreparable damage to his cells, thus killing him. But in the World of Avatar, I guess he does it with the power of spirit magic.
Scientifically it's not possible, but in the TV show (not that ass excuse of a movie), Aang accidentally went into the "Avatar State", which is essentially god mode that only activates in dire circumstances, and got frozen while in that state (when he's found, he's still glowing in the Avatar State aura).

Just wanna also say that years ago I first saw you (MatPat) on RUclipsrs React and been a fan ever since. You talk about my biggest passion, movies! And if you end up reading this, just wanna say thanks for inspiring me to wanna talk about movies on youtube too!
That is really nice of you. I hope he sees it as well.
JustMeanna hey, thanks for checking out the channel!
Aaron thanks!

Came back to this episode after starting to work in journalism myself (nothing big, just a college paper) and it made me think about how good my mentor was- she didn’t tell me any of these rules verbatim but she still taught me them without even letting on that she was teaching. Lianna, if you ever read this, I can’t thank you enough.
MatPat says Superman is an unethical journalist because he didn’t take a journalism class, but most of the journalists who did are still unethical.
How about a theory on the curving bullets of the "wanted" movie?
The one where they flicked their guns and the bullets would fly on a curve?
1. Is it possible to have a bullet curve
2. If possible, how much force/technique is needed
@@redacted_mamba AND I MISSED IT!!??
HEY!! SPOILERS! DX
I loved that movie... thx btw
Mythbusters did it
Yes you can but the bullet needs to be spinning and the barrel should be curved or odly shaped
@Final Incept Bullets already spin. It's called rifling. All modern firearms have this feature to stabilize the bullets like a football and increase effective range. However, perhaps changing the spin, such as speeding it up, could have the bullet curve. I don't know.
You can't really compare a bullet to a baseball. Baseballs are...balls, like musket balls. You can't curve a football throw as far as I'm aware. But maybe you can do it with round bullets, which is maybe why the agent in the beginning pulled out a musket pistol. Airsoft BBs use this spin to keep a flatter trajectory, and you can actually make them curve by turning up the hop-up and shooting the gun sideways. Maybe the Wanted characters use specifically-made bullets that fire ball ammo. But since we see the actual bullets in slo-mo, we know that they don't, which destroys my entire hypothesis.
that's basic newton's second law xD no need for explaination here.
Hey Matpat! Quantum Leap seems like a really fun show for you to watch. It's all about time travel and making small changes for the better without all the headache inducing big changes!
That show is awesome :) It was one of my favorites as a kid and it's still enjoyed alot today because he literally puts himself in another person's shoes and the stories are great. There's a similar type of story in a great late 90s movie called In His Father's Shoes with Lou Gossett Jr that you might like alot.
@@brandoncruise6398 I've been commenting this on a bunch of film theory videos for three years XD. I'm really glad to know I'm not the only one loves the show.
Where can I watch it?
media.giphy.com/media/qXHhyQpchxRXq/giphy.gif
Decaf 235 Yeah not many people know about it, which is a shame because the stories are all well rounded. My favorite is the one where he arrives in a cemetery and his method of getting there is detected by a woman who thinks it's a ghost. I can't remember the name of the episode, but the heart, atmosphere, and eeriness are really up there in terms of Halloween type storytelling.
I love that in superman and Lois from the cw, they actually brought this up. Also superman is half Canadian, one of his creators was Canadian, you can cross of the American way as well.
You blew my mind about Jameson. He’s kind of my hero now! 😮

Well damn, wouldn't all the news 📰 outlets (written/otherwise) be in violation of those regulations?
The SPJ aren't a regulatory organisation. They are an advisory one. They don't hold any power to bring any media source to task. Not in any real sense.
Yes.
I don't think they're regulations, but more of guidelines that all major news companies violate regularly. There's some smaller companies and writers that report the news accurately and have a title that reflects the nature of the news, but people like drama and go after the BS.
“They’re more like... guidelines.”
I loooooove how matpat looks at things that no one else would. Like newspapers in a superhero movie lol
When I was in sixth grade we had to take a journalism class and we spent half the school year learning the code of ethics. This theory is reminding me of that class

"Truth, Justice & the American Way." -Superman before he was ruined.
Elmunus Angelo All man of steel did was put superman in the real world.
Chef_Fiend that doesn't mean he has to be all pessimistic. you can still be realistic and have a positive, hopeful outlook for all of those things.

Kind of irrelevant when it comes to the truth, justice and the american way.
Chef_Fiend and made him snap necks
Lisa Leyendekker you can't be realistic and have a positive, hopeful outlook on a world that you still trying to understand while learning about your origins your past world the positive, hopeful traits that make his character is what comes after the fact which is what MOS and BvS was building up to

Superman:Hi
MatPat: Your a liar
I wanna see a comic, even if it's just one small book, where different superheroes become actual cops. Follow the laws, do things by the book.
Show us how they would adapt their abilities to handle legitimate criminals. It would probably be really cool as a single one off but boring if it went more than one small story.
In the comics (and in the DCEU?) Bruce Wayne technically owns the daily planet. He's involved in this too
Daniel Staples I’m sure Batman probably is too busy being Batman and Bruce Wayne to write a bs article about himself or Batman in the public eye
Yes, however Bruce Wayne gets to control what and what doesn't get published, you ever wonder why the daily planet owner doesn't allow Clark to publish that story on Batman?
You should do a theory on star vs the forces of evil
YES
I wonder if Matpat even watches that show though... He should because it's good even for adults, kind of like anime
Please do. Toffee is still unexplained, and while I adore Eclipsa, I still can’t decide what her motivations and plans are.
Excellent and entertaining video as always Mat Pat!
hey matt im still sad your editor died, it almost made me cry to see you like that. nice video btw.
Unbiased? Truthful? Refusing info from money? 😂😂😂😂
Ustioteamleader Yep practically all media Outlets these days are propaganda and based on just making money with lies. Just read the book trust me I'm lying. The mass media is about sensationalism not truth. When people start paying for truth things might get better
While doing a theory that just so happens to coincide with a paid sponsor... Really guys?! The hypocrisy is amazing
wmiller20002 At least the sponsor is unrelated.
@@wmiller20002 A sponsorship is completely unrelated and irrelevant. The only time when your ethics are compromised is when you allow that sponsorship to dictate how you do things and what conclusions you reach.
🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
Why a theory about how the clark kent disguise could actually work.
Didn't Hugh Jackman lose a Hugh Jackman look alike contest? I could see how a pair of glasses would confuse people.
I need to go through the 50's series with this info in mind.
Love the editing style! Great animation!
I can't think of many newspapers that are unbiased...actually, none.
Quote from Training Day:
"You see this? It's called a newspaper; it's about ninety-five percent bullshit."
lolz
Then where do you get the news from, kid? How do you what's going on in the world or the country?
"So the 'Daily Prophet' exists to tell people what they want to hear, does it?" said Hermione scathingly.
"The 'Prophet' exists to sell itself, you silly girl," [Rita Skeeter] said coldly.
@@deadguy718 Well, I don't get my news from a Nationally broadcast station that takes multiple chunks out of the day to make reports on puppies and cute stories about the little league team that could.
That makes me wonder, is the newspaper material made out of trees and bull poop?
deadguy718 Getting no news is better than getting news which exists solely to clickbait and manipulate the ones subscribing to it.
But then again that's just a theory.
*A SOCIETY OF PROFESSIONAL JOURNALISTS THEORY!*
I actually just finished Gravity Falls for the first time, and I noticed that while it's made a big deal that Ford has 6 fingers, and we can see that Stan and Soos have 5 fingers, characters like Dipper, Mabel, Robbie, Wendy, and Bill all have 4 fingers.
I feel betrayed.
Superman, I trusted you, even though you always lie about your identity, and saying that you always tell the truth.
