Are your dolls actually rare? (Rarity and value in doll/toy collecting)

- Stuff I should have said but didn't:
1. Rarity can also be based on location. Jakks dolls aren't rare in America but they are rare in Africa.
2. If you need to know how rare something is and you don't have access to documentation or memory of what the shelves looked like -- you just kind of have to have experience buying second hand/talking to other collectors who buy second hand. Some dolls seem rare on eBay but they're extremely abundant from other sources (I have found four Tecna Believix Power dolls second hand despite her being considered "extremely rare")
3. I think this misconception MAJORLY comes from peoples' fundamental misunderstanding of how second hand sales work. MOST dolls of are NOT titled 100% accurately on ebay... sometimes they're just marked as "doll" or "winx doll". If you search "Winx club glam magic musa doll mattel" you are NOT going to find many listings. - Развлечения
I feel like people like to Overprice dolls to make people think it is rare but that is just my opinion
Yeah that’s definitely part of it. People actually fall for it too
Agree. 😟
Yup
I feel so happy that someone finally spoke right about collection!!! Especially the enchantix part. I just feel people overprice dolls just for money and that is really bad especially foe someone eho wants to get his childhood toys that he lost and has to pay more than 100+. In my opinion rare dolls are the ones that were little produced or is one of a kind doll or didnt even come out and just one exists (like the musa doll that you have).
The Enchantix doll thing GRINDS MY GEARS
I know you don’t collect baby dolls, but this is happening a lot right now with Cabbage Patch Kids. People are saying a doll is rare and putting the listing at 2,000 dollars even tho there is an abundance of that doll and it’s most likely only worth 15-30 dollars. It irritates me.
The Beanie Babies effect
okay first of all love the flashback fever fianna vibes
“If you’re collection only brings you joy for its value.”
Literally the toy collector from toy story two
Not hating on those who do that but dolls are not the right collectible for that at all 😭
I don't collect the same dolls you do, but you are totally correct - it's all about supply and demand not "rarity".
I see this all the time with vintage LEGO as well. I collect sets from the 80s to 90s (basically the era I grew up with). I buy LEGO in bulk lots (I can identify sets even if they are dismantled and not labeled) and save a lot in the long run. Lots of sets I own multiple copies of (that I picked up for almost nothing) are labeled "scarce" "rare" - they definitely aren't. People are willing to pay more for them, driving up the prices. It's that simple.
Just Buy what you like and not what is " Rare " and trendy . Buy what makes you happy because trust me you can have all the dolls in the world but if you don't Trurly like or can enjoy them then what is the point? Take it as you want but we live onces so just have fun ♡
I loved your explanation for rare... I believe if it hold a value to you then it is rare to only you because memories associated with the item outshine any given price. And yes I agree only having something for it’s value isn’t worth it when at the end of the day does it bring you happiness? My bratz that I had since my childhood are priceless since I have memories associated with them and are rare to me. 🙂
Mattel winx dolls were sold in INSANE amounts where i live, Norway. They are so common online used that i literally find the eBay prices laughable. Like i’ve seen the glam magic enchantix dolls go for 3$ in norwegian money on our sites
Yesterday I saw someone post an ebay listing for Bloom Mattel enchantix wings for 800 dollars 😭
@@soarixchannel5265 that’s complete nonsens lmao. The mattel winx dolls are not rare
please give me a link😭 i simply cannot find cheap dolls
You are a terrific speaker, Brooke!! You really explained well about rarity and value. :)
I never heard and read someone using the word "terrific" as a compliment 😭😂
@@bratzscene3131 oh, me, shows I'm over 40, I guess!!
Wait really??? It's definitely a compliment!
i strongly agree with the point you made about the emphasis on "value" in collecting- since i've started doll collecting it seems like the thing other people always focus on is how much these dolls are "worth", how much i can sell them for, etc. but i'm not doing this as an investment, i'm doing it because it's fun! but i guess some people can't really understand or relate to the joy they bring me so they just see it for what it can sell for.
Yess! I saw someone selling B&W SDCC Frankie for $50, and I think that is a more than reasonable price, around 60-75 would be good, for it is a limited to 5000 release and it’s retail was 20$ and then at justice $40! Thank you for this video, I hope scalpers are taught a lesson.
That doll really shot up in value LOL. Wish I’d grabbed her when $50 felt expensive...
I always have to stop myself from spending absurd amounts of money on dolls because I always think "eventually they will be gone forever because they're not on the shelves anymore" and I know that's not true but still, it's kinda stressful if I'm being honest
This is such a necessary conversation especially those who are new to collecting. I have been collecting for years. I want people to know that with persistence you can get most of what you want (at least the common dolls) for a reasonable price. Rare dolls are difficult because most collectors dont want to part with their dolls.
As a doll collector it drives me crazy what people price their common dolls for online. Don’t get me started on how American Girl dolls are over valued to the point that even thrift stores over price them. The irony is-it is based on the sale of a AG Samantha doll years ago for $2000.00. But what folks don’t understand is that the doll wasn’t sold for $2000.00. The first edition doll was sold with all of her clothes, furniture and accessories which when totaled would have cost that amount to replace all the items. But I keep seeing appraisers saying that the Samantha AG is worth $2000.00 🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️. So when people go to price the doll they say, well my doll is worth at least $1000.00.
I literally found a Pleasant company Samantha doll for $10.00. I don’t even collect AG.
I love monster high dolls and it's the same problem here! Basically the only actual "rare" dolls, is the one doll you can only buy from a tripple pack (like draculaura: dawn of the dance or Catty Noir: boo york).
I like your take on rare. As a collector, I see rare as a product that is seldomly available for a person to collect. This could be driven by either small production runs (a product which was unpopular at production and therefore was produced less, or a product that was intended to be limited by its producer) or limited available stock ( something that was released in standard quantities, but most purchased units were lost or destroyed). "Rare" and "valuable" are not always synonymous. Value is driven by demand and demand only.
it's so true about how rarity can be based on location, for example, the monster high fierce rockers dolls are really rare in Australia because they were never released, I actually managed to get my hands on a couple of them from sellers who got them from overseas. I do not know if they are rare in the US and Canada
Thank you for this! I’ve recently been trying to get the entire Dawn of the Dance line and came across a listing of the 3-pack that was still boxed for 290 dollars. I then came across a Draculaura from DOTD for 125 dollars. It’s insane to me that a 40 dollar pack of plastic dolls has inflated in price like this. It was upsetting, and truthfully I thought about it and really considered it. HOWEVER, I decided not to get them because I instead wanted to save up for more SDCC exclusives because that’s worth the price tag for me. It really all is in the collector’s head and we give these scalpers a platform to well... scalp.
I know right! I was looking on ebay to buy a scarah screams I heart fashion nib and the cheapest I could find was 70 dollars.. 70+ dollars for a doll that literally covered the walls at toys r us.
MGA separates the Sasha dolls and other black dolls because the stores aren’t and weren’t buying them, they don’t put them separately, the stores order them separately
Most lines ship all of the dolls together so the stores can’t do that (or they ship EVERY DOLL separately). MGA on purpose did this to Sasha specifically. Yes , the stores were choosing to order less Sasha dolls but MGA also chose to allow them that opportunity.
When things become a trend the price goes up. It like bratz Felicia, you see her everywhere so she’s not rare she’s sort after
Isn’t she a rare doll because there is only two versions of her out? The campfire one and the sweet dreams Felicia? That’s what I’ve heard, and yeah there is also a high demand for Felicia as well but I thought it was because she has way less dolls made of her than the others.
Hypocritcal if your on the Facebook bratz page everyone is posting that they found her almost everyday. There are lots of dolls that have only had one doll produced like Kina, Dresden and lots of 2010 girls, and most the time they have the same numbers produced so none are really “rare”. Because there’s a lot of flack going on with black dolls they are the ones collectors are going after cause we’ve had so many different cloes Felicia is different so she’s more sort after. If this makes sense.
LOVE this. There are a few 2010-12 Bakugan that I have that are considered rare in North America because they were only distributed in Asia, Russia and Turkey. But collectors still love to try to tell me they aren't rare. (They're rare to me!! Because they were impossible to find in Canada at the time!)
I don’t buy toys for value I buy them because I love them 💖
Me too
I loooove your chit chat videos haha👌🏼✨
Pleaaaase more of them😂
I also hate when resellers mark up the price just because the box says “collector” or lord forbid “limited edition” No matter the quantity of the doll or the actual demand for it especially the formal funk line, I’m not too sure of the demand for that line, but I don’t think it’s as much as something like rock angelz. I see many of the NIB ones listed for over 150+ usually around the 100-150. For example the formal funk Yasmin, often is listed for those prices NIB but she actually isn’t that rare (I see many resellers list FF dolls as rare for almost every doll), at least quantity wise there is a l o t , she had a quantity size of around 250 thousand from what I heard so there’s quite a bit of her around making her not really rare; and the price was really more dependent on demand,, which I don’t see a lot of tbh?? And it’s strange because I still see the 150+ markup for most of them. I’m just beginning to get into bratz collecting so I’m not too informed of the current scene and the current demands but that’s what I’ve read from more seasoned collectors in the scene.
I LOVE CHAT VIDEOS SIS
I SECOND THIS 💕
I love these kind of videos 🥰
I love getting new informations about this, btw cant wait for your Miele doll😻😻😻
I love these sit down talk kind of videos!
Yes!! I love these types of videos!! I also hate when people buy dolls just to sell them more expensive than what they are sold in stores.
I think the reason why tecna and musa enchantix are so rare because u didn't really see them in stores. I know that in holland allot of stores had tecna enchantix but I have never seen a musa enchantix in stores i got mine also second hand
My “rarest” doll has to be a factory mistake MH doll I got back in 2014ish in stores. It’s a gloom beach clawdeen with a REALLY messed up face in a new scaremester clawdeen box. I remember seeing her in target when I was like 10 years old and I scooped her up right away.
Aw haha I love those kinds of dolls! I have a MLP set that the blister was put on upside down :P
At Walmart I literally ignored a ghouls night out 4-pack with a toralei wearing a first wave spectra trop with the chains, there were other misplaced items on the doll and i regret ignoring it😔🤚
okay now that you’ve showed those wink dolls close up, I’m going to go search for them now. they’re so pretty.
LIC Nevra actually was released the same as the other dolls in the line. LIC never had a play set. so maybe Nevra was just produced significantly less along w Jade. so wierd
Like the original Rock Angelz Roxxi, Live in Concert Nevra came with a car which I'm pretty sure classifies it as some type of playset
Yeeeeeeesssss, people always act like the Mattel GME dolls are the rarest things ever and that's just not true, people are simply willing to pay ridiculous amounts for them. Same goes for plenty of other dolls. I'm still waiting for the market to get saturated here so I can finally afford Flora GME (Musa's price will probably never really drop). It's already starting to happen; people were getting ridiculous bids on their dolls -> other people saw that and decided to sell theirs as well -> market got overloaded and prices have slowely but steadily been dropping.
Personally, I don't really have any rare dolls, but I do have ones that are very sought after. Great video!
I would die to get any Gme for cheap 😭 one of my fav lines because Enchantix is my fav transformation. Really hope they start getting cheaper sooner 😔
All of the dolls are getting more expensive now because everyone's getting their stimulus checks in America. As someone who hasn't gotten a single one it hurts a little bit lol
I have plenty that are sought after and I always hate when people attempt to compliment me for their rarity and then go on and on about how I must be rich. I'm always like... no they're literally not rare and I found her at Goodwill lol
@@xCanadensis Ah yeah, I heard about that. No such thing here in the Netherlands. Too bad you didn't get anything :c
Yeah, that must be really annoying. You just need to be savvy as a doll collector and know when and where to look for stuff. It's not necessary to spend fortunes if you want a nice collection.
Really solid video. 100% agree, some of the pricings on dolls are insane and for what?
My policy for playline dolls is to not pay more than double the original retail price and even then I rarely come close to paying that. Patience and perseverance can usually get you what you want for a bargain. Especially with playline stuff, I just don't see the point in over-paying when there's so many collector doll lines that have fallen out of fashion you can pick up for hardly anything and the quality, and therefore value for money, is amazing. Like Gene Marshall, Alex, a lot of Tonner stuff. Even older Fashion Royalty and Dynamite Girls.
From memory, I think the "rarest" doll in my collection is A Touch of Anime Agatha Primrose who has an edition size of 150?
This happens a lot with MyScene, as I know you have touched on. I really wish I could find a decently priced in box Delancey 😥
I'm just trying to get a My Bling Bling Nolee that isn't $150+ inbox or out of box 😭
@@blossomberry8809 The drawbacks of being a Myscene fan 😭
Lol, loved this. If it helps, this happens in other collector communities too and you did a great job explaining
Something sad is seeing used dolls with only half their outfits sold for almost the same as the same new in box. 🤦♀️
Can I just say, your make up is looking better and better with each video! You have a beautiful natural glow and the touch of pink on your eyes are just 👌
I’m actually not wearing makeup at all in this one 😅
This is a callout for all you people thinking the glam magic dolls are "rare".
they don't care what I think. I made a video just about glam magic before and now all of those other Winx people hate me LOL
I loved this conversation, its good to talk about money !
Very instructive video, good job! ❤
This is completely unrelated to dolls. But I looooove the sleeves on your dress!!
I really love your videos. Theyre an escape for me.
Thank you so much for this informative video!💜💜
Great video! Thanks for the info and perspective, I'm totally on board with your thoughts. Just thinking, if a certain doll is super popular with collectors and in high demand for years, doesn't that make it "hard to find" and "rare" because they might not be sold/ on the market till the collectors die, and by then I'm dead too, so basically in my lifetime and foreseeable future, that doll is indeed a rare sight and uncommon find? Since they're hidden away in the closets of those with money, even if they do exist, their existence is hidden and unknown to me, indefinitely.
I think dolls like Felicia from Bratz would be a good example..
She's not AT ALL rare. People who thrift often will have a bunch of her and most collectors have a story of how cheap they got her. There's posts every other week in collectors groups about finding her in box for like $40 or less at a flea market or from Japan or something..
but collectors hoard the doll and want multiples and people who do wish to part with the doll think she's rare (she's valuable for sure) so they push that narrative further and make the doll overpriced.
It's very interesting.
I always do wonder about the collectors who don't use social media and what kinds of wonderful things they have! When my dad had his toy store we would do home visits to appraise collections and the types of things we'd see were truly amazing!
Haven't watched it fully yet but you forgot the beloved doll ✨scammers✨ in the beginning 😭😂
Oh, since you also put Nefera on this thumbnail; I was once looking through every single MH doll listing on an eBay spinoff app here in Germany, and I counted every main character. I found 5 Nefera's in like 400 listings and I found 3 Cleos. Yes 3.
😑✋
Nefera is weird...
She was hard to get at the time and she remained that way... but I always wondered if they had actually made just as many of her as Operetta or Toralei and she just ended up as the one people wanted? I NEVER see her in kid's collections when I'm shopping on craigslist and stuff so maybe she is actually a rare one... maybe...
@@xCanadensis i look for dolls on polish apps and i see quite a lot of neferas so maybe it's more of a location thing?
Wonder how many doll customs until MH dolls become rare, untouched, complete, in box
There’s millions upon millions of them. They’re very common. And then a ton of collectors keep them in box.
There’s never going to be a shortage of MH. We already saw values fall embarrassingly low (like the 90’s Star Wars toys that were over collected)
Ngl I really hope you're right and a bunch of Winx dolls flood the market sooner or later. I remember like 5 years ago there were loads of dolls on eBay and now there are hardly any and that fact haunts me because I didn't have the money for them at the time haha
I paid quite a bit for the fierce rockers dolls but when it comes to the majority of the monster high dolls I do not like paying alot for them, I usually look for them at flea markets and op shops, I am just now buying them cause I actually have money, because i didnt have any money when i was a kid plus I was afraid of what people would think of me collecting dolls as a 13 year old.
love this video yeah people need to stop putting the price higher because once one person feels that a dolls worth 100 and its only worth 10 eveyone going to just copy like i got back into monster high properly in late 2019 as after the reboot i just lost interest and the prices now are so much different to 2012 2013 for second hand dolls and i now kick my self everytime i go on ebay searching for them wishing i would of brought them 5plus years ago wish i never lost interest
I desperately wish I'd bought more reboot dolls... I LOVE them but they were shelf sitting for so long that I assumed I had time :( There were wayyy less of them produced and scalpers didn't touch them so they're difficult to find on the market. From that experience I have learned to be overly cautious and always buy the shelf sitting dolls immediately.
I dub your shirt, the flashback fever Fianna shirt 😌
Very educational bb! 👏👏👏
Yes, your so right! Things definitely loose value. I learned not to buy things because they are more saught after unless I am willing to turn around and sell it. Star Wars has been a roller coaster in value over the years and so have the Disney dolls. I have the Disney Signature Collection and Villains Collection from the 90's. They aren't worth much, but it doesn't matter because they are so lovely and I never intend to part with them. I'm with you, I open, display and enjoy my dolls.😉
I just bought NRFB My Scene Ultra Glam Kennedy, Madison & Chelsea for a good price in our local online store, around usd $30 to $60 each. Now i want to complete the line, I'm now missing Delancey and she's $240 +shipping on ebay. 😭😭😭
This was a really interesting listen!! I bought a “Hot Skatin’” Barbie in Japanese packaging on eBay last year- I think it may fall under that not rare but interesting to me category?
Every now and then when i'm looking for g3 ponies i'll see listings that just randomly say "rare" in the title for absolutly no reason? Like, the pony isn't priced outlandishly, the pony itself isn't rare and it's not in box, but it still´has rare in the title. So my guess is people just love to put it in to make it seem more desireable then it is so it sells quicker or makes the price seem more appealing, but it's still weird cause i only really see it with g3 ponies
This is an honest question I've wondered about for years: Were the Glam Magic Enchantix dolls just poorly distributed? And were they EVER available in the US? Because I was 13-14 back in 2006-07 when they were released and collected the dolls. I do not remember seeing them ANYWHERE. Heck, I didn't even know they made Enchantix dolls until like, two or three years later and by that time Winx had gone the way of the wind in the US. BUT I also live in a small town-ish area and noticed over the years that I missed a lot of stuff either because we never got it here or the only Toys R Us was like, a half hour away and my parents were not taking me to the area it was in.
Also, there's a huge price-jacking problem with some of the Disney Store Elena of Avalor doll sets (The deluxe doll set and the Elena animator doll in particular (which I bought in store, luckily)) likely because they were poorly distributed and Disney gave up very quickly on the merch. But I did what YOU said a long time ago and just waited it out and waited it out and trolled eBay and got the set I wanted for retail price. Yes, I could have bought it for $300, but it wasn't worth that to me, so I waited it out.
People have had some crazy listings. I saw one set with 4/5 dolls from the mentioned set that was missing multiple pieces including shoes for one of the boys (this is important because their feet are STUPID big and Ken shoes don't fit, so you can't replace them) and the person was trying to pawn it off for like, $120. Um... No?
Here's the thing with them,do you notice how you can usually get glam magic enchantix Bloom, Flora and Stella for around $350 while the rest go for thousands? That's because Musa,Tecna and Aisha weren't even sold in most countries . The only merch available of winx characters included Bloom,Flora and Stella too, which was devastating for me, Musa was my favorite :(
However, Bloom ,Flora and Stella weren't rare at all, most kids here owned these dolls and from time to time one of these pops up on local marketplace sites for very cheap. I think people are willing to pay fuckton of money for these dolls just because of their high quality/wings gimmick ,but also because the whole franchise fell off after enchantix
i want disney V.I.P. dolls by Mattel from ebay but they too expensive for "Very Hard To Find" like i have found "RARE" dolls in thrift stores for about 5 bucks and i see Bratz dolls now over $625 for a nude Magic Hair Raya doll like i be confused... yeah i like dolls but i'm not wasting that kind of money on a doll (Sorry Not Sorry) i rather put it towards keeping a roof above my head
Oh lord those VIP dolls are genuinely rare. Very few were produced
As I said in my doll group a doll is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay. On eBay right now some Bratz dolls are going for crazy prices that I am so shocked by, all I have to say is do your research before purchasing.
That’s what I said tew
Monster high dolls are way too overpriced 😭 the only ones I can justify are the sdccs and the ones that didn’t have lots of quantity and are rare
I was trying to bid on original draculaura and this person was winning by $33 but she kept spiking the bid every 10 minutes and now it's $47 like she's not even rare, chill 😭
@@Babigh0ulll I was basically fighting this person on a bid to win a nib I heart fashion scarah for 40 dollars 😭 like that sucks it's so expensive
is the talking kiko plush considered rare? i never see him on ebay and i came across him for $30 so i snatched it. he was something i wanted for the longest but like why do people consider him rare? i dont see many people have him either.
They're pretty! But not sure I can drop $1000 on a doll. I rather sell it if I had it. There are times though I feel like having a yard sale to get rid of crap and use the profits to buy something like a doll or Gucci shoes.
Truth people throw loads of money away on addictions & fast food.. So why not a doll?
Hi Brooke when I buy an American girl doll online I pay what the doll orginaly was with the ex pectin of my Girl of the year 2001 Lindsey I payed more for her she is in perfect condition in her whole outfit. Ishe was my dream dolls. anyways back to my other dolls. When buying a doll online I pay the regular price of what the doll was avaible or sometimes a little bit lower price just by a few dollars. that's with the doll in her complete meet outfit and in good to even great conction. I agree with what you said the doll is only rare if somebody thinks they are. Rachel
I find in the UK that often I see the word rare used among loads of other listings on Ebay of the same doll, I mean exactly the same that do not state this fact. When I sell things via Ebay I never use the word rare for the sake of it, at this moment in time anything that is rare I am keeping. Now if I sold my Wild Hearts Crew dolls in the UK I could put rare because they never released them in the UK, I won't do that obviously. Great video though, I love this type of one.
It's weird because they'll just put "rare" in the title with no basis and then people actually believe it and start repeating it??
I also didn't know WHC didn't come out in Europe? That sucks :( I thought they ultimately turned up!
Yes, it ends up having no meaning because it is used too often.
No, in the end I had to import them from the US. It annoyed me because we have other Mattel dolls usually but not those for some reason.
LOL OMG Snowlicious is so expensive on the secondary market over here in Germany and I could never justify paying over 100$ for her. I got her for like 37$ (just estimated what it could be in dollars since I really don't know how to properly calculate the currency) and that's far better than 100 bucks!!
I heard this too, but Im not sure its true that LOL just kept the OMG black dolls seperate. The LOL OMG dolls all come separate to Walmart, each box contains 4 of one type of doll.
I think about this allll the time but you have to consider that rarity can be made over time from the loss of dolls. bratz dolls made 15 years ago are more rare because they are found less
Bratz are rare complete or in box because they're old but they're not rare at all in the grand scheme.
@@xCanadensis you're very right lol. but it makes me feel like an old lady at 26 when they call them vintage so ima let it slide
I really hope the price of winx dolls comes down. I had some childhood jaks dolls that I absolutely destroyed and gave away as I got older. I’d really like to be able to have them back in my collection now as an adult collector
I'm sad lol because I got washed away in the hype with the skullector dolls and bought pennywise and the twins from a scalper before they went down in price. I eventually bought them again off of amazon and I'm going to wait till they become more sought after, possibly after the reboot when I will try and make some of my money back since the boxes are still sealed. I feel kind of scalper-y but at least in my country sdcc dolls go for a high price so I guess someone will buy it. Feels bad.
My point of view of "rare" dolls; theres actually any rare dolls in the world. Lets put MH for example, the Maul 5 pack is supposedly rare but just in some countries, if you go to México that set is very common, same as with Rochelle Haunted for example, theres not actually a rare doll just where you live and how amount of that doll sold in your country but that doesn't means its rare. Rare for example could be limited edition dolls with a limited amount worldwide, thats an actual "rare" item. Another topic is how much people would willing to pay LOL
Yes! I REALLY wish I remembered to mention that location is super important!!
i think you might have been talking about tokyo a go go tiana when you were talking about the rare playset thing!!! lic nevra was released on her own (:
Damn I really thought I was spitting there LOL
@@xCanadensis OOP i just heard you mentioned tiana like 5 seconds after my bad lol
I really thought Nevra came with a playset I’m actually so bothered now LOLLL
@@xCanadensis it’s easy to confuse them tho bc tiana has a headset like the LIC girls do
Yeah, I was gonna say smth felt wrong😭😂
Makes me sad how much people keep charging to the jakks pacific winx dolls, ive found believix bloom, flora and stella for $30 each (they weren't in box, complete other than flora missing her socks) and i actually found a musa for $4 at a thrift store (granted, she needs new clothes, missing her wings and shoes but i was able to fix her up nicely otherwise) I buy things cause I like them but hooooly crap I will wait a few years if I have to just to find dolls I like at a decent price, especially the rest of the believix dolls
I think rare dolls are only for like prototypes, one of a kind dolls and lower produce dolls
I remember back in 2012 (when the doll came out) when Abby and nefera monster high dolls were considered "rare and hard to find"
I bought dawn of the dance draculaura on fbmp for $5 (8 dolls for $40). she sells for like $200 on eBay, which is ridiculous. She's my rarest doll, but she's not my favourite I own. I love her a lot, don't get me wrong, but her value being extremely high doesn't make me like her any more.
I THINK IVE GOT ONE OF THE RAREST DOLLS. I’ve got a doll of Coal from the Trollz tv show. He’s the only boy that ever been released and he’s only been released in a 2 pack that was a target exclusive (I think) lol. AND THERE ARE NOOO LISTINGS AT ALL FOR HIM but that also asks the question of what his value is lol
Great video and I, as a toy collector agree with everything you said, except for the part about the toys/dolls will eventually drop in value. With MLP g1, like you mention, value changes constantly, but will it really drop so low that they will be worth almost nothing? I doubt. This will be the case with some toy lines, but the older MLP g1 ponies get, the harder it will be to find them in good condition. I think some toy lines will only increase in value over time. What are your thoughts?
Well yeah...
I meant that inevitably the things drop in value, obviously not to nothing but MLP's Rapunzel will not sell for $1k+ forever. If there's no buyers the price will fall back to Earth again.
There's eventually going to be no nostalgia for these things and people will inevitably move on from collecting when they decide they're over it or when it's out of vogue (bc let's face it, a LARGE part of the community is here for the fad) .
@@xCanadensis I get what you’re saying. You’re right, nostalgia plays a huge part and eventually there won’t be any collectors left that grew up with G1... but I dunno. If we look at toys that are considered antique today. A lot of them go for a lot of money. One day MLP will be antiques as well, the toys that survive. I dunno. We’ll just have to see! It’s interesting to think about though!
Live in Concert Nevra was sold separately.
Yeah that was embarrassing. For some reason I REALLY thought she was a playset doll?
@@xCanadensis You’re good girl! I think it definitely must’ve just been another one of MGA’s early 2000’s racial issues at foot like you mentioned with Sasha 🙃 It’s a shame because she’s so gorgeous. Definitely one of the prettiest Nevras released in my opinion.
do u think that after the new MH doll that are supposed to be released + the reboot, the price of the old MH are going to go up or down ?
the ones i wanted from my childhood was ,island fun barbie, superstar barbie 1988,barbie and the rockers diva ,calfornia dream barbie ,cool times barbie ,rose princess barbie that was a barbie i got for my neice i had to get it again ,i love my scene barbie dolls and bratz i want to reroot a bratz doll i have two monster high dolls and a jem doll
To summarize the video : Basically there are some toys that over overpriced then others for no actuall reason really most of the time unfortunately.
yeah!! the monster high prices got crazy so i stopped buying them online and switched to like thrifting and secondhand toy stores
They are so ridiculously common thrifting- it truly boggles my mind that the eBay prices shot up like this!
@@xCanadensis literally!!! my “rarest” ones (collector drac and batsy claro) were from once upon a child for about 2 dollars each
Hi Brooke I wanted to tell you that yesterday I was watching my sister she was watching Paw patrol and they showed 4 GMA toy ads back to back frist they showed the rainbow high doll a wry styles with the 2 wigs and all the clothes, then they showed a OMG dance dance dance Car,the Lol Supeise house then they showed another Lol or omg ad then they showed the same rainbow high as it was so funny it made me laugh.
Oh neat!
Yeah it was then at some point they showed one Barbie doll commercial. Which I thought was funny. I only just started collocting rainbow high dolls I manly colloct American Girl Dolls. But I just got back into fashion dolls manly rainbow high last time I bought a fashion doll was when I was little.
I heard that glam magic Musa was only released in some countries
Glam Magic enchantix musa is quite rare.. as a child I didn't find musa and Tecna in store..but Bloom stella and flora and also Aisha were everywhere. I don't think Mattel produced the same amount of all dolls.. Tecna and Musa have never been as popular as the others
They did. People tend to assume Musa and Tecna are rarer and thus buy them first.
It's also possible that Musa and Tecna are more common in Europe than they are here. But going through eBay before the Winx local scourge hit, Glam Magic Musa was hard NOT to find if you knew where to look
@@xCanadensis Well it's just hard to believe.. I'm German and I remember back in the days there were Bloom Stella Aisha and Flora in every store.. but we never found tecna and musa..since Musa was my sister's favorite.. and it's still like that.. Bloom Flora and Stella are easy to find. To me it seems like there are many more of these dolls around than of the others.. I've been trying to find musa for years..but I never saw her at a price i could justify 😐 I also heard from other European collectors that Musa in certain countries has never been in stores but I don't know if that's true.
@@nyux9277 ah that could honestly be because you’re in Germany. I truly have no idea about dolls distributed there but I know it’s done differently
Lol when I heard gold Bloom I thought of Jeff Goldblum
And I searching Bloom GME doll cheap beacouse she is perfect for me!!😍✨✨
I know that’s right. Tell it girl!!
when i hear people talk about there bratz dolls they don't mention the one bratz doll i found at a yard sale i have only found her online...its raya she has a yellow shirt with a smilely face a pock adot skirt and her shoses look like hamburgers honest
She’s from 2015! I have her. Most people don’t really like 2015 bratz so that’s probably why you don’t hear much about her
Cool , I am the doll collectors
Would you say Isi dawndancer is a rare mh doll, or just another doll that are sought after?
Very high demand but overall not very rare. As common as any other Monster Exchange doll at least
People really need to understand the difference between ‘rare’ and sought after
I have Yasmina Magic Nigth Out doll and I think she is rare✨
I have the 2011 Limited edition Alice doll and D23 Ariel, and I would say that they are quite rare. When saving to purchase Alice I had an internal debate centered around that same idea...”How much do I think she’s worth?”
God that Alice had only 500 produced, right? That’s a ridiculously rare doll that has a great demand
@@xCanadensis Yes, that’s right
it may not be rare out in the doll world but to the doll collectors or even the ones that are just looking for dolls from there childhood it maybe rare to them for thoes reasons i'm 44 a few years ago about 4 or 5 years ago i started collecting dolls plus rerooting dolls that only have hair problems plus i gave a few away i donated some and sold some that i rerooted have to make room for new dolls
Isi batsy and kjersti aren’t even rare scalpers just scalped them
Edit: they are from monster high
The 2011 Limited Edition purple Rapunzel really is bad about this as well. I rarely see her go for less than $1000 on eBay
I remember thinking $400 was absolutely insane and couldn’t believe people were paying that...
LOL.
The 2020 one was better so I’m happy with mine :)
@@xCanadensis Agreed! It makes mea little sad to see how much hate she gets
I have to explain this shit all the time regarding my anime merch collection. Yes this magazine containing only one chapter is worth £170, yes they originally sold thousands of them but it’s a magazine and people throw them away and thus the price rises. Same goes for dolls/figure who are made to order, it may have been planned to produce 500+ but if people ain’t buying the supply would be limited and so the price would skyrocket
I have Clawdeen wolf draculara Frankie Stein and Cleo de Niel and the it Pennywise doll
I only say a doll is rare to convince my parents to buy me them when I wasted all my money on other dolls so- 😝
I DID THE SAME THING WHEN I FIRST STARTED COLLECTING LOLLL
''This one is going to be worth so much money later on, people are already paying big bucks for it!!'' 🤣
