    Those Akai GX6XX series were the ULTIMATE decks of that time. They were appealing to look at, sounded phenomenal, and really weren't that expensive either! The only issue they have, is it's tough to find parts for them, and they're hard to work on in comparison to Teac and Pioneer.

    This was really helpful to learn about open reel to reel.
    10.5" reel size playtime is 90-120 minutes.

    Hi I have one of these but my one is the one that is in a floor standing rack,never use it but it looks great,thanks for showing how it works hope to give my one a go when I can find a tape with music on it

      good luck. Stephen has identified a blown rectifier so far on mine and is, I think changing transistors to do with record and erase.
