Good video. It's interesting the different terms people use different places. Everyone I know calls the AC cord a D plug. I'm not saying that either name is wrong, but it's good to learn different names for each piece of equipment.
What does a StageHand really do? I'am applying for a company called Rhino. It will be my first job in the music industry. I'am actually a musician wantint to learn but I'am a wee bit nervous on what I will be doing as a stagehand. Thanks!
Rhino has a bad rep. look into IATSE locals in the area where you'd like to work.The IATSE is aThe Stagehands Union and offers opportunities to work and to learn.....Good luck!
Thank you for clarifying the difference between "chord" and "cord." I just asked this question recently!! hahah. I am going to start doing stagehand soon. Are there not many gals that do this? I want to do this and I'm interested but I feel out of place! These videos are great thank you for sharing. I am trying to gather essential tools. What size C-wrench is preferred?
lol me too, for the first time ever lol I dj primarily , but getting into the production is a while notha ball game lol I'm so nervous, I'm a dude too .....haven't even had a job , job since 2008.

+Kimberly Halbrook lucky lady you are ;) embrace the opportunity to the max Kimberly! this is a good video to see, but stage hands are utilizing way more than just cables lol all we do is roll them up nicely, we don't handle too much, just we are mostly muscles for moving stage decks, and scaffolding to hold the stage lol. Hope you have fun in school! I'm so jel ;)

What effect does the ground have that it has to be broken off? I thought you weren't supposed to do that so you can be safe from electrocution.
YummYummYummilicious The ground being removed is ok in this scenario because we are all on wireless. Therefor the guitar player is safe from shock. Also, typically, backline(guitar amps) power comes from audio to ensure legs are properly wired.THanks for the comment. #stagepower

BNC is a connector type, not a cable. Antennas are normally coax cables with BNC terminations.
Yes, but on stage you refer to cables by the type of connectors it has, not by the wire it has. XLR cables, 1/4", NL4, IEC cable, etc... So, technically you are right, but it is still better to refer to cables by the type of connectors in my opinion and from what I have experienced.
@@SammyBones Coaxial cables can be terminated multiple ways, unlike the other cables you mentioned.
@@jordanhenshaw that is correct, which is why it is so important to call the cable by what type of connectors it has on it. This avoids confusion when doing stage production work.
As an example... On stage, I could say "could you hand me that SJO cable?" But that could be an IEC cable, a regular Edison, a British connector, a twist lock, an NL4 Nuetrik, a speaker cable, a motor cable, or many various types of connectors that use the same type of wire.
@@SammyBones BNC is not a type of cable. It is a type of connector that you can usually screw right off in seconds. In my work, a BNC connector can be used for both SDI, power, or antenna cables, all of which are made of coaxial cable and happen to terminate with the little BNC you can pop right off.
HDMI is a type of cable. It is also a type of connector.
XLR is a type of cable. It is technically also a type of connector.
DMX 3-pin is a type of cable. It is not a type of connector. (These cables technically use XLR connectors).
DMX 5-pin is a type of cable. It is also a type of connector.
So there are completely different cables that share the same connectors, but differ in impedance, and should not be used interchangeably. Therefore you can’t always call a cable by its connector type.
In the case of coax cables terminated with BNC, it makes a lot more sense to me to call it an antenna cable or SDI cable, but never a BNC cable. That’s primarily because you can just screw off a bnc connector without using any tools whatsoever and put it right back on in seconds. It’s very much a connector, not a cable, for that reason. I don’t know of any other termination types that can come completely off in seconds with no tools.
you dont even need to know this as a stagehand. Stagehands just haul and move boxes.
+zimonslot Ahh, the beginner non-motivated stage hand... Yes, you REALLY SHOULD learn these. Learn these connectors so you can communicate with the tour personnel and you will become more valuable and do your job better.
pfff... whenever I try making myself useful I get the comment: 'uhh.. that's the soundguy's job'. Or when I ask a question: 'yeah it's like this and so and so, BUT you don't need to know that..'
+zimonslot You must not work many corporate shows. If you want to go anywhere in this business learn as much as you can. The more you know the more valuable you are. Be proactive read books on being a stagehand watch videos like this.

I was trained to be a sound tech at school, i know signal flow, but hauling boxes is all i am hired for/allowed to do. Even when all the stuff in these videos is major duh for me. This business is wierd and does not appreciate knowledge and you get zero chances.
