Being an INTJ adult who has full control on his life; if I’m forced to extrovert, two things would happen.
    1. I’d be unnecessarily rude towards people I’m being forced to extrovert with
    2. At the end of the day yes, I’ll be super drained but I’ll not recharge myself by hitting the bed right away but by spending more time with my own self alone.
It’ll not help me sleep earlier. At all.

extroverts gain energy from being around ppl

INTJ here - It wasn't until I hit my 40s I learned the value of good sleep. I used to get sick all the time as my body was so run down from lack of sleep. I thought I was invincible, and I could 'will' myself through the day on 3 to 4 hours of sleep. Now I stick to a very regular bedtime and wake time and get 7 to 8 hours of sleep. I rarely get sick now and I feel more evenly balanced throughout the day.

Thanks CSJ. I’ve been following your work since 2018 and you have certainly come a very long way since then. Happy for you because it seems like you’re able to make a living doing what you absolutely love and that’s rare to see for me.
As an INFJ, I can never get a solid sleeping schedule going. Every. Single. Time. It fails miserably. My body feels tired, so I lay in bed and try to rest, but the god damn brain and thoughts in my head just will not shut up. It gets to a point of utter annoyance that I just give up and stare at my phone for a couple hours until my body cannot take it anymore.
This awful sleeping pattern has ruined so many good jobs that I have held in the past because I wasn’t responsible enough to literally just GET SLEEP.

The key is to act on that sleepiness after extroverting. Don't go home and chill alone reenergizing. And once in that sleepy state, stay away from things that get that ni/te amped up again (like consuming media). Just go straight to actual sleep!

    • @HoytoHoyto
      @HoytoHoyto 2 года назад +1

I agree with you, but a recurring problem-admittedly, a rather specific one-I have, is my main mode of extroverting is playing team sports, which does tire me out. However, when I drive home, as well as when I shower afterwards, my Ni and I, like Chase pointed out, rapidly recharge. I haven’t figured out a sustainable solution to this yet. 😂😭 I used to go straight to bed, but I’d feel disgusting the next morning. Not to mention I’d have to switch out my bedding quite frequently. It wasn’t ideal. TMI, I know, but this is a real problem for me. 🙉🙈

@@HoytoHoyto Ever take a quick wash off shower and then soak in a warm bath? Really different experience and more calming.
Also, just for me I try not to workout too close to night time. Those endorphins will pep me up and I'll be up till 2 or 3 am. (And I'm 53!)
      Been a lifelong thing.
Better for me to do anything like that earlier. Then the physical tiredness of workout plus active day can kick in by bedtime. Just my experience.
If I'm having trouble shutting my brain off, I sometimes make my brain bored with things. At night I'll start reading a book I know I don't find that interesting. Hard to find, but they exist
I've even been known to threaten my brain with menial tasks (folding socks, organizing kitchen pans). Usually my brain taps out to avoid those chores. Lol. But getting older has really helped with that too.

Accepting the fact that a day only has limited amount of hours and giving myself an hour of reading and prayer/meditation in bed before I fall asleep helps immensely. It is difficult to uphold that routine especially when I'm obsessed with a new topic, but it is doable. The acceptance part - "it's ok, the day is over. There'll be another one tomorrow" - is crucial and painful though.

I think INFJ’s, (can’t speak for INTJ’s, I’ve only deeply studied half the types) need the world to be quiet. And yes, that Ni drive.
Starting at age 36, I started being unable to sleep past 7:30am even if I went to bed at 3am. This is the case with a lot of middle age people and elderly people, and started early for me.
The grouchy in the morning part chase spoke about, it could just be grouchy over unrestful sleep and bad sleep habits. If my sleep isn’t good, I’m extremely grouchy! My daughter says I can’t handle sleep deprivation at all.
I use to Ni the heck out of my nights as a child and into my 20’s. Now I Ni the heck out of my mornings. Once your life mellows out, you aren’t so easily amused, you’re past the exploration phase, you begin to really cherish the simple things. Taking care of yourself, family, home.
You cherish bedtime too. I just love crawling into bed at 9pm, knowing my morning is going to be amazing. I love sleeping nude and my very comfortable bed and that’s a strong draw, a luxury.
I nearly spring out of bed at around 6:30am at the latest, excited because I get my best work done when my energy is the most refreshed and the world is still quit. I love the crisp morning air. I laugh when I’ve done so much by 9, when some people are waking up.
It didn’t use to be this way. Regularly getting my goals met and self care took a lot of time to develop. It’s as if the best way to truly change your habits is to go through a lot of pain and discomfort until you’ve really had it.
I am amazing at self care now, but it took me 35 years to develop. I think because I was so lacking for so long, it’s the most important thing to me now and gives me the most pleasure.
My family, my kids, my home, my body. My life revolves are all the necessary things and I am the most at peace.
Any time I’ve had a healthy person around me, I totally mirror their habits! I have long gotten the losers out of my life. That helped immensely.

I exactly do as you said but everytime I get tired being in an extraverted environnement and I go back home, I start wandering, doing my things alone, gaining energy by myself and I'm not tired anymore so it's still difficult for me to go to bed. Yes, I should go to bed immediately after coming back home but it ain't easy. Good analysis tho.

I have the opposite sleep problem with him - if we've been out with friends all day he just wants to keep going! It does not tire him out, even tho people say 'he'll sleep well tonight...'

Eventually my Si will win however and I’ll have to sleep of course, but it can be a problem. This is why, on several occasions in my life, my sleeping schedule has become absolutely atrocious. This is a really cool concept! I feel like there's many other possibilities that are opened up with just this key nugget of info.
For example, I wonder if it's possible to "fake" an extroverted situation by watching a podcast with a lot of people in it or something.
Or how about solo aspirational activities like exercise or practicing for a performance?
Maybe the secret is to tap out our Se function so the Si demon can finally have a say.
Since the extroverted / introverted functions are tied together on an axis, maybe if you overuse one side, the other side will finally surface to fix the balance. The main problem seems to be that our Si demon's voice is getting drowned out by our Ni hero and Se inferior's distractions. Once we clear these 2 functions out of the way (by tiring them out), the Si demon should finally be able to hold some sway.
Anyway good stuff as always! Much appreciated to chase and the person who asked this question.

So another thing I learned (infj), extroverting, going out to places. I really enjoy going out to places and with people but am always exhausted afterwards. Grocery shopping for example tho, I do it alone and find it kinda tedious but when I go I get a coffee or a tea from the local coffee shop there and do my shopping and I don’t gain energy from it but I find it relaxes me even tho it’s tedious. So I kinda learned to like it over time. The best way I think to relax is finding the joy in the things I hate. Things that are just everyday life it’s become a love hate relationship with the world mostly because I have bad extroverted sensing and I’m kinda forcing myself to develop that weakness. It’s brought a certain balance to my life that I’m still perfecting.

Window blinds, sleep masks, earplugs, and waking up when I have slept enough without alarm.
Letting myself wake up slowly, sometimes even meditating then and there in bed.

Very intensely spot on here. So true. I find when I have been on a family holiday I sleep like I have never slept before. I wake up, but my brain seems to be in shut down mode, so I drift back off. I go almost into a semi coma state which is probably normal for some types. I am a 5 a.m riser due to starting work at 6 a.m, so I am forced into being the early bird rather than the night owl. I was as a child the same though. I always got up 2 hours before school. I feel so much more productive at the start of the day and it has kind of stayed with me. My work is a very extraverted environment of around 20, so I pretty much sleep well most nights. What tops it though is a family party and some alcohol. There is no waking me up after that situation. Was lovely to hear your sons progress. He sounds adoreable. I have an INTJ nephew who is 18. Sleep is insanely important for health hormones and brain functioning. I want my brain on high gears as much as possible. It’s how we recover in every way. I’ve always been a night owl though and didn’t make it a priority until I got into fitness hardcore. Sore muscles definitely slowed me down and I had to get sleep to recover better. 🎉 great lecture. You talk about how INxJ's need to make friends in this video.
I have been thinking that instead of focusing on making friends, it's better to focus on extending your social network. It's a better movement approach. If an Ni hero is saying "I will go find a friend now", than they will end up looking for perfection and artificially force relationships into existence. I think it's better to consciously focus on surrounding ourselves with more (good) people and getting to know them. You can also think about what kind of environment will bring the right people in your network for example. The friendship part will happen organically along the way.
This may also work for sexual relationships.

@@CSJoseph sure, I can eleborate if you don't understand yet 😋 First of all let me make sure we use the same definitions. Your social network is everybody that you know, also called acquaintances. Friends are people within your social network that you have a special something with. Some level of rapport, a connection in any form or shared habit/experience (basically someone you spent a lot of time with).
To say it simply, the difference is that that the pressure is taken away to create something special with people. You aren't looking for the right people to connect with, you let the connection happen to you simply by being around people.
Perhaps you don't see the necessity for the distinction from the perspective of your psyche, because for you it's much more easy to receive. But for Ni hero that tries to force things into existence by will it is big.

Some stuff that help me get better sleep:
    - do something productive for yourself where you can say you did something today
    - fix your sleeping place, a good bed does wonders or a less shitty one
    - change the direction your sleeping towards to (north sphere of earth, sleep to the east. south sphere of earth, sleep to the west), sounds stupid, but it help me sleep better
    - get your sleeping place a away from water pipes or electrical cables in the wall
    - get up the same time every day, even if it is the weekend and get up early and get a morning routine
    - dont eat stuff after 6 PM
    - read a not too entertaining book before going to bed
    - get out into the sun
Every time I'm in an interesting conversation I forget about my own body and it feels like I'm a floating mind :D After that I realize that I have a body and I think shit, what do I look like?
My sister woke me up once. As revenge, I farted. It smelled so bad that she had to run out and throw up. Revenge of the Shit Lords.
Dont wake me or my ass up ever again!
Me in a group... Dead within an hour of being with them.
Me 10 seconds alone... Unlimited power!

This is an interesting take. I do find now that I spend more of my time doing extroverted activities that sleep better. My current job requires me to spend more time with people, I interact more in my colIege courses, and I've been forcing myself to talk to people more when im out. Instead of ingoring everyone. I thought I was sleeping better because my plate if more full, but what he was talking about may be what's happening.
My mom said when I was an infant I slept like 20hrs a day, and as a child I needed 8-12 hrs asleep. When I would wake up I'd be extremely slow paced and super cranky. I would nod off throughout the day. I would sleep walk, and my mom said I would get up in the middle of the night, come into her room, and have conversations with her while I was asleep. Though, after i woke up properly, and when I was alone playing I would have tons of energy. As an adult (around the age of 24) I found out, in a sleep study, that I don't fall asleep all of the way. I would blow up on people when they woke me up from my sleep at any age throughout my life, but even though I'm almost always tired, I hate to go to sleep. I've been over compensating by drinking coffee, and using marijuana to help me relax and sleep (melatonin stopped working years ago). I don't want to drink caffeine or smoke pot anymore, so I'm going to experiment more with this idea.

But I wonder how close an infp would be because of their SE trickster, you know? Because I very often find myself unaware of my body's actual needs and that does surprise me because I am always so outcome driven, if that makes sense? I always like to know everything ahead, especially in regards to something that does affect my comfort levels. I'm curious as to why or how an infp finds themselves neglectful in this area? Thank you, again.

I am an INFJ and I sleep deep at night even I do lucid dreaming often since my child hood to the point where I control my night mares too and will not wakeup until I finish the demon in my dream (so weird haha) and if I do wake up in the middle of the dream I can continue my dream from the place it was broken . It does not matter how disturb I am, I sleep really sound and can completely forget about my troubles where I do not dream about my problems. Dream state is like a sanctuary to me and I love to sleep as a reality escape and sometime I do not want to wake up from my dreams into reality and yes I hate to sleep alone.
I would like to share a strange experience that happened to me years ago once I was laying on bed in my mother's house at night and suddenly I felt sleep paralysis where I couldn't been able to move my body an inch at that time, I was awake and my eyes were closed. At that moment in my mind I saw that a huge, a very fat, heavy demon was sitting on me on my stomach just like we sit on sofa and because of it , I was not being able to move and my stomach was hurting like a very heavy weight was crushing it. At that moment in my mind I grew large claws sat up and started to tears apart the demon with them and when ever I was putting my claw into her jet black skin a strange light was coming through from her body upon each cut and she was trying to heal those wounds ASAP but I kept doing that and kept saying in my mind
"How dare you attacked me? don't you know I am one of the believers of Imam Ali a.s"" and she got so astonished upon listening to that and got brutality injured by my claws that she stood up at once leaving my body and started to run away from me lumping. At that time I felt an imidiate relief as my body became normal as before but I did not open my eyes and continued following that thing in my mind and I saw all the dogs barking in the street on her as she was going away than I opened my eyes and I heard tons of dogs barking outside , just as I saw in my mind. So I think we INFJs have tremendous power untaped given inside to us by God Almighty and we should enhance our spiritual side. Only GOD Almighty knows how much?
