I have to admit this sort of layout isn't usually my thing, however it is good to look outside your usual interests every so often for inspiration or even just to take note of the hobby in a wider sense. Clayton West provides a busy scene with both passenger and freight operations taking place. Locomotives come and go fairly frequently with freight trains needing to be marshalled or shunted into a siding by the Class 08.
While the real Clayton West closed to traffic in 1983, this layout is based on the premise that government funding was made available to regenerate this area, leading to railway remaining in place.
Filmed at Beckenham & West Wickham Model Railway Show in October 2023.
Thanks for watching 🚂
I last saw D8568 in Castle Cement livery on 30th April 1986, which was Chernobyl Day, on the NYMR. It had a huge oil drum mounted on an angle-iron bracket on top of one bonnet, as the NYMR engineers tried to remedy its lifelong reliability problems by increasing oil supply pressure to the engines. This seemed to do the trick. Fast-forward 37 years, and I cabbed it for a second time on the GCR, minus the bonnet-top oil drum, fully refurbished, sporting immaculate Rail Blue livery and running like a dream. Well done to everyone involved in saving and restoring this unique Class 17 survivor.
Cool, sounds like a good memory. Thanks for watching 👍
I do believe that smaller diesel was the inspiration for diesel in Thomas the Tank Engine. How lovely, I think class 40 is also one here.
Trucks are waiting in the yard, tackling them with easle, "show the world what i can do" gaily boasts the diesel, in and out he creeps about like a big black weasel, when he pulls the wrong trucks out, pop goes the diesel
I think it is diesels inspiration was the Class 08 diesel-electric shunter which looks a lot like the one I'm looking at
Yes Diesel was indeed based on the Class 08. They're a pretty common type of diesel shunter, used from the 50s right up to present day in some areas! I don't think there's a Class 40 in this video... perhaps you mean the Class 47. Thanks for watching 😃
Sweet shunting layout and loads of fun. The music was great always enjoy that part too.
GOD BLESS from America

Yeah lots of action to enjoy on this layout! Thanks for watching 😃
Very good show. The weathering on the locos is really well done. Many thanks!
It does give the layout that realistic grimy look doesn't it! Thanks for watching 😃
I love the modern stuff!
Something a bit different for this channel in particular! Thanks for watching 😃
Love the video! I have a suggestion: an n scale layout. With your editing and skills, I would love to see a series like that!
Glad you enjoyed it! Interesting - I'm definitely open to modelling in all different scales, it's really just time and space. I do have a new layout building series coming very (very!) soon so stay tuned for that. Thanks for watching 😃
Great vid! Love the flask operation
Yes those caught my eye too! Thanks for watching 😃
Gives me a whole new appreciation for BR diesels! That weathering job on that 08 looks great as well!!
I know what you mean, weathering when done well can really add a new dimension to a layout. Thanks for watching 😃
Like these long straight layouts...
The great thing about this one in particular is that the fiddle yard is hidden behind one section, so in effect the whole layout is scenic. Thanks for watching 😃
What are carried on them flat cars with the white boxes?
I believe they’re Nuclear Flask Carriers. Thanks for watching 😃
