    I agree with you when it comes to video auto focus, I only use it when I film myself and the X-T3 and X-T4 already handle that task perfectly. Video auto focus apparently sells a lot of cameras but you will quickly learn that manual focus is the way to go if you’re filming others. Auto focus doesn’t know how to tell a story, it can be unpredictable and doesn’t really know what you want in focus, learn to use your camera, people!

    Can you do a video on pulling your own focus specifically for weddings/events. I have an X-T4 and the autofocus is ok, but I want to learn manual and I just need the confidence to start and I would love to see your process or setup. Thanks!

      I think that the basis about pulling focus is to know your lenses pretty good. I dont think no one can teach you a technique. You have to go out and practice practice practice! Rely on focus peeking and also zoom peep function of your Fuji. Also getting a focus puller from tilta or smallrig also will help getting the hang of your lenses turning speed if youre a handheld shooter that is, speaking of speed... Some lenses are not linear and focus by wire and thats a pain so make sure you are able to change the type of focus in your settings (if the lens allows it as some thrid party brands dont have it) and last and most crazy, buy a cheap cinema lens and lock away your autofocus lenses for a week or two and feel the presure to learn asap (I had to do that, except I sold all my autofocus lenses rather than put them away). After 5 years pulling focus even from a moving gimbal now, this is all I can think of so you can get started on it. Good luck and go out there and shot alot and mess up filming moving objects until you master it. Cheers.

    Really loving the colour grade of this video. Is this flog2 ? And are you using a specific LUT?

    • @itsaaronmiller
      @itsaaronmiller  2 года назад

      Thanks! It’s FLOG2. It’s mainly contrast with primaries and the conversion lut and that’s about it. I adjusted the colors just a little to push some warmer tones in the mids and cooler tones in the shadows but very minor

    I missed the Q&A post but I have a question if you don’t mind.
    I have the X-H2S and when I’m in Flog2 I can’t use waveforms or false colours on my monitor because it doesn’t show the clipping points correctly. The waveform clips below 100 ire and the false colours won’t clip/show red no matter what. It works as expected in Flog1 but not Flog2, do you know why this is? I don’t only want to rely on zebras for exposure. Thank you for the video 🙌

    • @itsaaronmiller

      I’m actually not sure. I’ve had limited experience with FLOG2 but that is something I want to seriously look into. I hope to have a video on it soon!

    hmm this AF thing...I think we expect magic from the cameras...but they just can't exactly know what we want... I think it would be really valuable to learn MF in Video... it seems like you have a lot of experience with that. Could you please show us your technique? Thanks

    • @itsaaronmiller
      @itsaaronmiller  2 года назад +1

      Honestly agree. And no matter what the system is, AF never looks as organic as manual focus (if experienced) and can always fail on ya. Being in control of the camera is one of the biggest strengths you can have. That’s a great idea to cover that in a video. My biggest piece of advice though would be to just practice and don’t be afraid of it. Go to a park and practice tons of situations and anyone will quickly realize it’s a lot easier than they think

    • @eatsimplefood
      @eatsimplefood 2 года назад

      @@itsaaronmiller Thanks! Looking forward to that. I will practice but I don't know if I can nail it for a wedding where everything is happening so fast. Also I tend to introduce a lot of shake to the video. Can you do it with all your lenses or only with specific ones that have some kind of built in stabilisation? I have a X-T4 right now and I am a bit in love with the viltrox 56mm but it has no OSS.

    • @itsaaronmiller
      @itsaaronmiller  2 года назад +1

      @@eatsimplefood I haven't really had issues based off lens. Obviously you'll want to use some form of stabilization (monopod, ibis, gimbal, weighed and balanced rig). Vintage lenses or lenses like the sigma and tamrons are much easier than some of the lenses like the fuji focus by wire lenses. I much prefer to have hard stops and repeatable actions.

    • @zKMotion
      @zKMotion 2 года назад +1

      All the videos that I’ve seen about AF for actual pro work is sickening. I did weddings with the 5DMI and all videos were MF and yet we delivered.
      High end commercial shot with ARRI are MF so why are people so stuck up with AF for video is just mind boggling

    • @itsaaronmiller
      @itsaaronmiller  2 года назад

      @@zKMotion I mean to be fair a High end commercial will have someone who's entire job is to pull focus. That being said, yes, I prefer manual focus and exclusively use it in a professional context. Even if I had sony AF it would typically be my choice. But for run and gun, AF does have it's purposes and can simplify things in certain uses. I just don't prefer it.

  • @SvenPries

    Thank you for the video! But: Damn - I missed that post with the call to action. But I do have one question: is there a way to tell the X-H2s to only look for eyes in a specific area of the sensor in stills photography? I shoot football (=soccer) and eye AF is useless otherwise. 🙂

    • @itsaaronmiller
      @itsaaronmiller  2 года назад +1

      Ah no worries! I do plan to do a video over AF and a big section with eye AF and I’ll definitely try to test some situations like that. From my experience, if you click on a subject, the box will move where you clicked but it also seems to stick a little to that new subject you clicked on. It’s by no means a subject lock or detection, but it does seem to at least prioritize the af box and look for a face and eye around the box. I’ve done little tests with it but I think you’d really have to do a good job tracking the subject with the camera and keeping them in or around the single point box

      @@itsaaronmiller Wow, thank you for answering! I actually own the X-H2s but always fall back to single point AF for shooting football ⚽️ - I got the impression, that the eye AF is looking everywhere for eyes, no matter what zone I give him.
