German Shepherds are really smart. There’s a reason why they are the breed used by the K9 police unit. However, they can be dangerous if not trained. By dangerous, I just mean they could potentially be at risk of biting another dog or a person. I worked at a petshotel/doggy day camp for 8 years. Some of the German shepherds we got were sweet and innocent. But some could be big problems in the doggie day camp (same with huskies). Also had one pick up a little dog and shake it like a chewed toy and it had to be rushed to emergency vet because of bad puncture wounds. Moral of the story: if you are going to get a German shepherd, just make sure it’s trained and socialized
The original movie was from the 70s. In that one, the gas station owner, named Fred in the original, is actually the mutants' grandfather. The mutant patriarch Papa Jupiter (the one they tried to blow up with) is Fred's youngest son, a bad egg who committed arson and murder in his youth until his old man had enough, beat his ass with a tire iron and dumped him in the desert.
I love that Doug goes from being a bit a of whiner and seen as a wimp to being a total badass and that shot of him walking with the dog and baby all beat up is iconic !

The original movie came out in 1977 and was directed by Wes Craven, this is one of his own creations. the remake does have some call backs to the original though and it does a good job keeping to the spirit of the original as well. This one always creeps me out when I see it, though it was nice seeing Emille De Raven in a horror movie cause I didn't expect her to be there. You are right though the one that created the Atomic bomb had no idea about the side effects it would cause and the horror it would cause when they hit Hiroshima and the other town but it wasn't pretty and not something I would wish for anyone to go through.
