      I would imagine that the artificial satellites 🛰 orbiting the earth interfere with using a optical telescope 🔭 because said satellites are most definitely brighter than the far away stars... ? Just a thought...

    There is a spherical object on top left of the satellite (eclipsing the Earth) perhaps blocking the signal. The solar panels look about 45 degrees right out of alignment; the satellite is pointing off course (to Earths horizon maybe); the docking face is pummelled by some kind of impact; and the docking mechanism looks damaged!

    Enjoyed your presentation. The topic depth was right and the graphics were terrific.
    There are other effects of satellites on astronomy other than the reflection of visible light from the sun which were not addressed in your presentation. First, there is the issue of transits of satellites where the satellite moves between the observer and a distant star. As we have been using the "transit method" to discover distant planets, that the transit is caused by a tiny object MUCH closer to the observer can be a real problem. Second, there are the signals broadcast from satellites which can cause problems with radio astronomy. Of course, this has been a problem for quite some time but is being made far more severe as the number of satellites balloons in numbers with the Starlinks of the world.
    I really did enjoy your presentation. You covered a great span of the uses of satellites--from communication to science. There are also some who want to beam down power from satellites (via microwaves--not visible light).
    One of the future topics I would like to hear more about is the advanced techniques used for solar panels on satellites. The ISS is just rolling out (literally!) a new set of solar cells and it would be interesting to hear about multi-band electrical generation in the latest developed cells. Another topic would be ionic (electric) propulsion and its use in satellites. I understand that it is very fuel efficient and thus can increase the payload/fuel ratio so we can send more actual functionality for the same mass-to-orbit. (Of course battery technology is up there too but that is just for storage of solar power versus a power source in itself.)
    Thank you for your presentation. I look forward to hearing more in this line from the RI.

    I have an idea for a space telescope’s guidance, rather than only using jets to position it, it should be possible to use a few rings with revolving masses which can be rotated to adjust position. Obviously whilst possible it is completely untried and would require complex development but perhaps one day it will happen.

      Probably not too expensive or difficult to build a micro satellite to demonstrate and perfect your concept.

    The sun is in a position it illuminates the earth close to 90 degrees, in other words the sun is almost back of the camera was taken this photograph, the solar array it must be always facing the sun , but in this case it's facing 90 degrees away....and that's I think it's the problem, wrong position of solar array.

    I give up - what's wrong with the picture of the communications satellite taken by the servicing satellite? I can think of lots of things that mark it out from a photo taken on the ground (e.g. the clarity of distant objects) and that show it's been cropped, cleaned up and rotated a little for public presentation (look at the angle of the Earth's terminator and the shadows etc) but nothing that really strikes me as 'wrong'...? All I can think is that the satellite's solar panels aren't oriented directly towards the Sun - but this is an out-of-service vehicle so it'd be expected to be powered down. I honestly don't know.

    Jupiter has TW of energy coming from it. I don't think He'd mind if a satellite used a bit. Now, is it possible? About that unpleasant radiation... is there a way to get power from it?

    China dark side moon rover already used RTG and can go auto sleep and awake mode. The most recent super success of setting up three modules plus reorientation of space station modules are very worthy for the west to learn on how to Lauch heavier compartments
