    6 years ago, I bought an 1100 off of a friend that didn't much use it. Pulling off the forestock, and cleaning the barrel and seal was about the only cleaning it got since it was made 52 years ago. I am amazed that it worked so well, when the trigger, bolt, and other parts were so filthy. I've shot a lot of clay birds, without giving it proper care, until I found this video. Never again, will it get so abused.

    Only video on youtube that gives a close up on that gasket ring position ... some of us dummies forget how we took it apart , thanks i can actually use my 1187 now.

    Excellent Video series. I also purchased an easy loader from Brownell’s which I think is an indispensable component. Loading is a breeze. I had a gunsmith install this part. Brownell’s is my go to Company for spare parts and assessories. A few spare parts and two extra barrels make this sporting gun a do anything/anywhere shotgun. Thank you Brownell’s for giving me a skeet gun, a large game (pig) and bird gun with the lightest of recoil impulses.

    Excellent video. Crisp, succinct, accurate. Thanks. I don't think my dad had ever torn-down this shotgun for a complete cleaning so it had NEVER been really cleaned. Lots of gunk dating back to about 1962 (more than 50 years!).

    Your videos are wonderful and have helped me a lot. Just started shooting at a trap & skeet club and went to the store to buy a shotgun. I thought I was getting good advise and a good gun. They said the 1100 was what I needed. I love the gun, but have discovered it had lots of problems. The first day I shot the gun, the trigger pins fell out. The store would not warranty the gun or even let me trade it for another gun, so I am sure they knew it had issues. The I could not put the pins back in because the carrier release was not staked in and had moved. Your videos have helped me replace parts, get the proper tools, clean the gun and make the gun actually work. Thank you.

    Thank you. It has been 50 years since I cleaned an 1100, my first shotgun. Now I've acquired a Classic Trap model. Boy, did I clean that first 1100. It went on lots of duck hunts in the saltwater.

    Great video series, thank you. A couple of tips that may help. When removing the magazine cap for disassembly, hold the shotgun by the reciever instead of the barrel or foreend. If you don't, the receiver will quite likely fall away when the cap is removed.
    If you're an avid shooter, like skeet/trap.sporting every weekend, pick up or assemble a small spare parts kit. At a minimum, have in your shooting bag a new "O" ring and barrel rings. They always break or fail at the wrong time.
    You can call me crazy, but I clean the barrel using a small bob of 0000 steel wool wraped around an old bore brush. I chuck the cleaning rod in my drill and in about 3 or 4 passes followed by a couple of patches, the bore is clean and polished. It removes all the lead and plastic, ready for an oil moistened patch. 0000 steel wool is good for cleaning the outside of the magazine tube. Once any fouling has been removed, stop and wipe with a clean cloth.
    Cheers!

    Very informative video. I had never taken the trigger housing out and I'm glad i did. Could not be much easier. So much brass particles and gunk in the gun and receiver. For me it would have been helpful to say which way the link assembly goes in (up or down) as I did not remember when i took it out. But when I stoped the video you can tell if you look closely. Thanks a bunch, Ken

      I was still able to reassemble out of order. Even though I put the trigger in first, I was able to reach in and depress the latch and slide the action arm assy. Next time I will do it in the order he showed instead of what he described. Still the BEST Rem 1100 take down video on RUclips!

    • @robertduff1571
      @robertduff1571 3 года назад

      @@phoebedad I dont know if that may be a slight mechanism difference between the 1100/1187 but with the 1187 I could still reach in to depress sure but it wouldn't allow the assembly and bolt to fully seat with the trigger assembly in place. Once I removed the trigger assembly the action arm assembly slid right in no problem.

    One thing you missed the ring with the gap should be 180 degrees opposite of each other. Also on the barrel shank you need grease on barrel shank so the metal is not beating on it self one pea size dot of grease on the shank and the bottom flat spot on barrel.

    Thanks for this video. My grandpa gave me a 1100 12 gauge magnum that hasn't been used in about 40 years. The only thing I did was clean the barrel and the magazine tube. The magazine tube was COATED in black stuff. What parts do you suggest I should change out? The rubber o ring seems very stiff and slides off easily. Should I replace that?

    • @Joetrout
      @Joetrout 9 лет назад +1

      As long as everything's intact, and cleaned. I would dump that o-ring and replace it with a new one. Make sure safety works fine an go shooting

    • @kensclark
      @kensclark 9 лет назад

      Okay. Thanks! The safety works fine. For some reason, it would only take 1 2-3/4 or 1 3 inch shell no matter what I did. I cleaned out the magazine tube and still nothing. It finally decided to take two today without trouble. That tells you how dirty it was, lol.

    they say to install the link then the trigger assembly first then the bolt and action arm assembly, but when they cut to the bolt & action arm assembly they show that being installed WITHOUT the trigger assembly in place. so what is the correct order? trigger assembly then bolt & action arm as they SAY bolt & action arm then the trigger assembly as they SHOW?

    • @brandypenell9918
      @brandypenell9918 8 лет назад

      Reassemble your gun in the opposite the order of disability. In his tutorial the trigger assembly was removed after the bolt and action arm so it would be placed before the bolt assembly and action arm during his reassemble of the gun.

    Why do remington design so compex gas ring system?much parts means much problem..the biggest problem in this models the gas cylinder is too close to the chamber and this leads to inproper burning powders and lose the velocity of the shot in cold weather..

    In step 2 you install the trigger housing assembly yet clearly the bolt is already on the action arm assembly and then you insert the operating handle and it shows the trigger housing not even attached. So you haven’t got this in the correct order.

    the barrel my 1100 is like so stuck I like drenched the thing in rem oil and I ended up using a pair of pliars and put a cloth on the pliars so I wouldn't damage the gun and hit the pliars that were on the gas part thing of the gun with a hammer so that got it out and after cleaning I had a really hard time putting the barrel back on having to do pretty much the same thing any idea why this was so difficult because it looks like you just gently pull the barrel right on out

    • @brownells
      @brownells  8 лет назад

      Unfortunately the issue is difficult to diagnose without inspecting the shotgun. The issue could range from excess carbon buildup to damaged barrel/receiver/magazine tube. We advise meeting with a competent gunsmith who can inspect the firearm first hand.

    going by this video is not good. Placing trigger assembly after link placement is almost impossible because link keeps falling out. It is easier to place link then bolt assembly then the trigger portion. Good God, I wish the video had said that and saved me some time. I bet a million the link is not in place in this video when he so easily places that trigger assembly in.
