Al is truly missed. I never thought he should have resigned. Hoping he will run again. We need more like him.
Should've never left, one of the better Senators for sure. He's well versed in the policy issues for the committees that he was on.

I read Al Franken's book. He was very much a senator who did good and had great ideas. I would have voted for him. A man of intelligence and wanted to do good things for this country.

Al is a great American. He got screwed when he had to resign; he should have stayed in the Senate.

I like how Al calls it "Affordable Care Act" instead of "Obamacare", which is how the Republicans called it to turn people off it because people are supposed to dislike Obama. And the worst part of that is, the Democrats have often also talked about "Obamacare", which doesn't help to communicate that the law, despite of its flaws, is good for the people.
Not everyone can remember the names of legislation, Obamacare works because it is a healthcare bill instituted under Obama - the only negativity came from GOP s**theels picking it apart, and everything else about Obama too.

@@motors5153 Nobody saw the tape because there was no tape. There was _one photo_ of Tweeden’s accusation, and as I posted above, there’s powerful evidence that that was faked. A couple of other women posted photos but none show Franken doing what they claimed (in none of them is either of his hands anywhere near any of their privates, nor could he have reached them before or after the photo was snapped from where he was standing relative to them).
I'm saying she had reason to set him up. It was before he became Senator. I heard one woman who complained say that as Senator he put his arm around her waist. He was entitled to a hearing likanyone else Gillinbrant and Klobichar lead an effort to get rid of him

There is video of her actually grabbing men between their legs (without their consent) at the same event. Franken never touched her. He took a jokey pic as she was jokingly grabbing genitals all day. Al Franken is one smart cookie. He dropped completely off the scene after being bull shitted out of his job as a highly effective and hard working senator and simply waited for the PC dust to settle. He is now well rested and ready to carry on where he left off. Go Al! An admiring Canadian.
According to an interview Al did a year or so ago, he was totally blindsided by this. Imagine the humiliation of having these charges levied against you and then have your colleagues turn on you, despite all the work you've done on behalf of women. Al went into a deep depression once the initial shock wore off, and of course regretted his decision. He added that it doesn't help to have well-meaning people tell him he should not have resigned.
Sadly, it would have blown over after a month or two if Franken hadn't resigned. I still get furious when I think about what that Fox chick did to him. He's such a good man.

I met him and his family here in NYC in the early 2000's and he was so nice. I hated what happened to him in Congress and he was due a hearing before resigning and wasn't given that.
I'm glad he resigned, though saddened by the need, because he sent the clear message that this is what principled people do when they discover they have committed a serious impropriety.
He could easily come back to public life, and his time of self-imposed exile would be well-understood to be evidence of a heartfelt honesty that is sadly distant in these Trumpian times.

You are so right. It was one of those 'Democrats, what are you thinking?!!!' moments. Trying to show how tolerant they are by rushing to judgement. It's obvious the whole thing was a setup. The 'poor girl' in the picture was a regular on Hannity's show on Fox, and her role on the USO tour was to be the sexy bombshell. It was laughable when she came out with her hair in a bun and glasses to whine to the press how awful he was. The other complaints all came from women he hugged during photo ops. His own staff wrote a unanimous letter saying he never harassed them, but that was an 'uninteresting' one-day blip in the news.
And what has she done since then? Jackshit! Made a name for herself by snuffing out one of our greatest liberal champions of the senate. Then she ran for President. Failed and did nothing notable since. I wish she’d be primaried out. We need people that want to fight enemies, not friends.

In the photo, she was asleep, wearing a camo vest and a helmet which may have led you to mistakenly believe she was a service woman.
