    Great video! 3 and a half turns on the mixture screws is a bit extreme for a carburerated motorcycle. It will make it run mega rich. Set them about 2 turns and work from there 👍

    @MrChrisallen300 Месяц назад +2

    Regarding the carbs, in addition to the jets and floats there are also fuel passageways in the carb bodies which many people overlook. They take care of fuelling at tickover and low revs, and if they are blocked you will have difficulty starting and rough running and low revs. A youtube channel Superbike Surgery has some very good carb videos. He uses a very effective chemical to clean carbs, which unfortunately is his trade secret!

    If you're on a budget, you really need to be more careful. Buying a plug spanner from Halfords without knowng the size required, or whether you actually have one in your toolbox already is a waste of time and money. Second-hand petrol tanks are going for £60 on ebay, so £10 is only short-changing yourself. Also, if the header pipes aren't actually leaking, leave well alone, If you snap an exhaust stud you'll regret it and need to buy a replacemnt head, or get an engineer to remove the stud; all agravation you don't need.

    • @newmotorcycleguy
      @newmotorcycleguy  Месяц назад +1

      Thank you for this comment, I don't plan to touch the header. I'm hoping to get this bike up and running, This tank will take a lot of work, that's why i got another, so i doubt anyone would want it, but id rather it be gone than hanging around.

    Hello i hope I can help,I have a 2004 cb600f and had similar problems your having,mine also was leaking from the carbs as the seals were 20 year old. I bought a new complete kit from amazon been leak free since,make sure to completely clean the channels the seal sit in as there will be remnants of the old one in there use something plastic to dig and scrape you don't want any scratches in there ,once clean used some grease in the channels then placed the seals Into place the grease helps them stay in place and expand so I'm told.
    I only run my bike on Shell E5 V power it's faultless and runs like a dream hope this helps good luck and never give up on her 👍

    Get a db killer for the end of the exhaust. Needs one drill hole. If you can make a temp fuel supply. Place carbs on a flat surface. And connect it to the carbs, And leave them sit for a hour. And watch for leaks. Saves finding out when installed.

    I have had an almost identical bandit from new (98) , the only failure i have had was one plug cap , the rear spring sagged and one fork seal. It sounds like most of your problems are due to the failing tank liner, there chemicals available for stripping this out and they may be worth trying to totally remove it from your tank. It could be blocking any filters in the tank , the fuel tap and re blocking jets and passages in the carbs also needles and needle jets are known to wear quickly. Mine runs fine on iridium plugs and your down pipe lock original but have a piece of mild steel sticking out to join to the link pipe which can rust away, some people then spend a lot of money replacing them but if you take the down pipes and link pipe to an exhaust specialist they can weld on sort piece of stainless pipe to replace the rusted part

    Your doing well for a beginner, I personally would of put some thinners through the old tank and them split fire plugs seam ok to check hold against the head with HT lead on and turn engine over, look for a spark, I don't run my bandit with a fuel filter because they have a vacuum system and I don't want to mess with the pressure and what ever you have done to the carbs put back to how it was before you had the leak, also the tool kit that comes with the Bandit has a spark plug socket in it if it came with the bike

    I had iridium plugs in my bandit, and it ran fine. Did you check the float needles? The little rubber ends can wear & this cause leaks. Those plugs don't look right to me. Have you checked there suitable for your model of bandit, there's standards, cold & hot plugs. It's differently running rich, a blocked air filter, overflowing carbs, wrong plugs, failing coils? The green spark company is a good place to find motorcycle spark plugs. You buy tank sealant kits, and the more expensive kits come with a flush to rinse the tank, a neutraliser & a coating to seal the tank. Did you leave the fuel tap on prime ?

    • @newmotorcycleguy
      @newmotorcycleguy  Месяц назад

    The exhaust bolts that hold the front pipes into the cylinder head are renowned for seizing and snapping off when undone. Also the joint between the collector box and the silencer was mild steel rather than stainless. Probably a rarity having original front pipes nowadays.

    The tank breather is not a part of the tank itself. The vent is built into the petrol cap. The hole you pointed to is a drain for wayer which collects under the fuel cap mount as it is not sealed. To clear/check the breather you need to either suck from the key slot or blow through from the underside. Dont forget to che k that the fuel line hasn't kinked with the tank in situ.

    I have the 2002 bandit, other than styling and some other changes like 17inch wheels think it’s predominantly the same. Those headers look like mine and mine are standard, I needed to have the collector box welded many years back as it uses lower grade stainless than the headers. Other than that it’s a great bike and I will never get rid of it. In fact going to work on it tomorrow. Good luck with fixing yours up.

    You say that your on a budget, you need to clean the tank by drying it out then putting clean stone's or small nuts and bolts then shaking the tank for a good fifteen mins and then take them out of the tank, swill it with petrol then you can put a tank sealant let it dry overnights then put it all back, you won't get anymore crap in your carbs. 👍🏍️

    Was going to say 16mm deep socket and small extension bar followed by using spark cap to take them out
    Ps those Denso sparks are the best spark plugs for them.
    Dont use iridiums! These engines done like them.
    Test your carbs for leaka by using an syringe or bottle with fuel and pipe to connect to carbs, let it fill and visual aspect for leaks.
    Your sparks being black and carbon build up suggest its running rich/not combusting the fuel (ignition)
    For fuel mixtures 2.5 half turns, trust me on that one! I run 38 pilot jets and have 3 turns out lol 😂
    Mix screws as follows - screw - spring - washer - o ring.
    Clutch has adjustment screw on right hand side under a cap.
    Your fuel filter is the right way, theres a years old debate with folks on orientation but yours in the correct way.
    Be clever with pipe work for fuel filter and you should be okay, but bear in mind if you have dusty rust. The filter wont stop it from entering the carbs.
    What jets have you got in them ? Standard is 98 100 100 98 for mains and 35 for pilots
    Use the manual for specs and test your coils with multimeter and test your pick up coil (not hard to do, manual simplifies it for anyone to do)
    If in doubt, ebay £40 for a replacement set
    Not sure why you got the red pipes on the breather port of the carbs lol kind of pointless lol
