- ESPN SpeedWeek coverage of two grinding crashes at Indianapolis that left rookie Mark Dismore and Kevin Cogan hospitalized. Includes rare home video footage of Cogan's crash.
I admire Mr.Dismore's attitude.
Any updates on this gentleman
@chevy4x466 yes actually! Ik you asked this like 2 years ago, but my dad works for Mark. They build Go-Kart engines at Comet Kart sales and he has a bad limp from the crash. But he’s doing good! :D
Cogan survived & walked away two years earlier from a big crash at that race & at the the same spot where Dismore crashed.
And on a feature about Indy Car injuries they show Jovy Marcelo celebrating with Mark. A year later he would be gone
Pigot's crash was very similar to this on yesterday, and let's compare their cars.
His comments about making the cars wider......pretty much whats happened. The cars are shorter, wider, and slower than they were in the late 80’s/early 90’s, and wadya know? The racing is better than ever.
Yes!! Kevin Cogan had some excellent advice. I'm glad that the racing officials finally listened to him. Kevin Cogan is a great man! He's smart, honest, and he's a very caring person.
I don’t think they needed more reinforcements back then Kev, you just needed to stop wrecking every one around you (ask A.J.)!
LOL, the guy improved on his racecraft following that crash, but you wanna keep hanging that one crash on him. You sound like a dipshit NASCAR fan who only knows Montoya for hitting the jet dryer.
I don't recall Dismore's long term injuries. Was he paralyzed from this crash? Some serious courage, these guys.
No. He wasn't paralyzed. He came back and raced at Indy from 1996-2002. Mostly, he had mechanical issues or plain bad luck. He's still in racing owning the New Castle Motorsports Park.
Dave Thompson No not paralyzed but he has knee and feet problem still to this day. He owns Comet Cart Sales in Greenfield In. They build racing go carts. He is a friend of my bosses and we actually have one of his Indy car bodies hanging in the shop. He comes by all the time and is an all around great guy.
@@FABAutomotiveDetailing what a great person Dismore is. Great attitude. Every time I look at the accident, I cringe. How he didn't die or loose his legs is beyond me.
Max G It’s hard to watch for sure! It’s amazing but he told me he never lost consciousness and heard all his bones break.
Cogan was the Patrick of the 80's-90's.
very good comparison
Pretty much
True, but Guerrero was no better. Two shining examples of the Peter Principle in action.
Id say Danica is slightly better than Cogan.
lmao! Omg this is one of the funniest comments threads I’ve read in a while; that Crash-ica Patrick is better than Cogan. Wouldn’t be so funny if not that it is probably true.
lost motorsport legends
None of them are legends. Kevin is a joke
@@jamesgentry13 Kevin is not a joke. That accident in 1991 was Ricardo's fault- not Kevin's fault. You're a joke.
That's a definite creaky morphine voice for sure!
Cogan always drove like he was on drugs
@@jamesgentry13 THAT'S A BOLD FACE LIE, YOU MORON!! You are such a loser!
Faltou a legenda em português
Coogan again..
You're an idiot. You misspelled Cogan's last name. Cogan is a great man. He's smart and he's very caring. You're not either one.
Dismore says he's blessed not to be born with something wrong with him yet he goes out picks a very dangerous sport and puts himself in a spot. Maybe he should pick a different profession, but he does have a good attitude about it all.
Says a no balls idiot thats never been in a race car
A rather peculiar way of interpreting his comments/perspective. My guess is that he chose racing as a passion not as a profession. His only problem was - like most professional drivers - is that his passion turned into an addiction.

Racing became safer when mr cogan retired.
No! It became safer when the racing took Kevin Cogan's advice and made all of the changes that he said should be made. It's sad that they waited until after Cogan and Dismore had such serious accidents for the racing officials to finally wake up and realize that Kevin Cogan was exactly correct.
Freakin' Cooogan.
No. Kevin Cogan is a great man. He's honest, smart, and he's a very caring person. Ricardo is a bold face liar. You're a fool for thinking that the accident was Kevin's fault.
よく生還出来たなぁこれでw
I dont know who's the bigger joke. Kogan or Guerrero
KNOCK IT OFF YOU MORON! You're so stupid that you can't even spell Cogan's name correctly! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
hi
Too narrow? No. No open wheel cars should race at those speeds on an oval with a concrete wall looming. They should be restricted to road courses.
Hell NO! Ovals rule
Just running at a Road Course isn't going to stop an incident from happening. Dario Franchitti had his career cut short at a Road Course event, Justin Wilson suffered injuries in a practice crash at Mid-Ohio.
The problem with the concrete walls has been mostly resolved by Indycar. The SAFER barrier, HANS device, and cars designed to shed parts and pieces in a way to more effectively disperse energy outward while keeping pieces out of the vehicle, have all contributed to preventing debilitating injuries like this from happening. The last major incident was James Hinchcliffe at Indy (and Justin Wilson at Pocono, but that was a freak accident that has happened at numerous kinds of circuits).
Road courses and a full canopy with bars transversing the Cockpit
theivory1 Spoken like a house wife who doesn't watch any sport.
SBF HAWK just stick to NASCAR then
