Wow! I’ve always been impressed with both Tom Petty and Mike Campbell, but you’ve just given me a whole new appreciation for them. It’s going to take a while to digest all of this.
As said in another video, I really like your presentations, especially talking about theory and why this stuff works. I've started to try and write my own stuff and all this information helps. I also like how so much of your stuff all ties together......the movable shapes thing. And yeah, that's a neat little rig you have there. I finally got a real amp, A Mesa Subway Blues and I just love it. Thank you for doing all this.
I actually have the original 101, not the reverb model. I love it but if I had to do it again I would get the reverb model for sure. You can't go wrong.
Thanks, Marc! I only use the surf and lead settings. I think for this video I was using the lead setting along with a visual sound route 66 pedal. I always leave the high cut off and adjust the EQ according to the song. I find that the EQ sounds great at pretty much any setting on this amplifier.
Great video! Can you please tell us about the guitar? I’ve been looking for a Tele with that exact color with the white pick guard and the rosewood board. What year is the guitar? And is the neck original? Thank you.
The author can comment, but there's an interesting story to that color. It was called "TV White", or "Television White". I'm not sure whether that was a formal name or jargon, but in the early days of Television and actual white guitar would appear super white, so white that it would mess up the TV camera and wash out the area surrounding it... Solution, make the guitar and off-white/cream color and the viewers at home would see the desired white guitar! I don't know if this story is true or not, but I heard it many many years ago. Seems plausible anyway...
Thanks, Martin. The guitar is a project I put together, and is my favorite. The neck is from my first Telecaster, a 2001 American Series. The body on that guitar was ridiculously heavy ash, so I bought a USA Custom Guitars lightweight alder body and had it finished by Marc at Burtone Guitars. He goes by Superlead on The Gear Page if you want to look him up. It is a light relic nitrocellulose finish that I had him model on several pictures of aged Olympic White Fender guitars. The bridge is a Trem King. If you look up "Jerry Donahue Esquire" you will see a demo I did of the guitar.
Hoodrio when you say it has a light relic finish, do you mean that it was intentionally made to look dinged up? Because it looks pretty imaculate in the video. Is there a way to message you privately so i could ask you for some pictures about the finish and other aspects of the guitar?
I really like your vids. They are usually easy to learn from. Greetings from Hungary.
@@MC-jm7hi Thanks so much for watching and sharing positive feedback. Cheers to you!
Thanks for the vids. Great! I now can play more of TPHB than ever
Simple is great when you know what you are doing like Tom did. Thanks for showing how he did it.
I like the way you give instructions - VERY easy to follow but not assuming we're all experts or music readers etc. Really good style of explaining!
Thank you...I love playing Mary Jane.....yes the world will not be the same without Tom!
AMEN!!!!! SOOO Painfull!!
Absolutely brilliant - Thank you

thanks, man. rudimentary concepts for you, just bumped up my game a bunch. appreciate your taking the time to share.
Great lesson, thank you. And it is hard, just saw his show in Seattle a little over a month ago, man...
Thanks for the reply. Looking forward to more lessons
First class lesson demo' - thank you! I learned some cool stuff there!
Thank you for decoding some of the magic. Tom's stuff sounds so good but is attainable by us mortals ;)
Really love your videos. Many thanks!
Nice lesson - thanks for sharing
What a great lesson!
Great lesson! Welcome back.

Thank you for doing all this.
Thanks, Joseph - I appreciate the support. Enjoy your new amp!
Thanks. Nice tribute.
Thanks fo this. Good stuff as with all your vids. Petty was a great song writer, no doubt.
Very cool, great tone! Technically, Mary Jane's is in G, not Am, correct?
Love your Videos! Keep it up
hey just a note if you want it to sound like it did on the album you have to tune every string just slightly sharp maybe like a 1/4 ,
Beautiful tele dude
Sorry for the late question but I see that you have the quilter 101 reverb. Been thinking of getting one. Anything about it you don’t care for? Thanks
I actually have the original 101, not the reverb model. I love it but if I had to do it again I would get the reverb model for sure. You can't go wrong.
What are the settings on your quilter? I have one just like it and have a hard time getting a good tone. Yours sounds great in this video.

7 months - it's been awhile
Tendonitis. Thanks for noticing.
I don't play to often anymore, arthritis. but I still like watching your kick back lessons.
Tennis elbow?
Yup.
Yeah I've had it in both elbows from pickin too much.Hopefully it'll go away completely for you.

Yes, you can send private messages on RUclips but I don't see that option on your channel page. I think you have to have Google plus.
What amp and cab is this in the video? It sounds great.
Joshua Ezell listen to the entire video he explains all his gear. Geeessh
Robert Conti
What gear is he using
He goes through it all at the 16:20 mark.
Buzz awhile...
