For me, I’d be more inclined to do defensive substitutions with a larger lead. My concern about swapping out a bunch of my starters in a close game is, if I blow that lead, my offense is now worse.
Agreed, there's reasoning for lots of different starts so feel free to use what works best for you. Defense is great in late inning situations but only when you're in the lead really.

how does this really works with gm and manager if you can mostly everything already?
