I have been riding the previous model Process 153 27.5 for a few years now. It was the most comfortable bike I tried. It you can find an Ibis Ripmo you may really like that for a 29er. It rode similar and was very nimble. Enjoy what ever bike you get. I too like to ride bikes.
Thanks for your effort to make this video. The final thoughts could have been a bit more in depth, because "I think I like the 29er better" is a bit sparse...
@@ToogyHowser i don't mean to say your videos aren't good! Sorry haha no I just mean it seems like the bit rate was upped or something? Just even better resolution... either way looks great
My local shop sells kona. It'll be my next bike but the hardest decision is wheel size. My bike now is 27.5 stumpy. Stick with what i know or different still have no clue
Depends on you're height and what you like to do on the bike. I like to ride both: 29 on my trail since I can plow through terrain, 27.5 on my hardtail for agility and jumping. Ride what's most fun to you
I don’t think height has anything to do with 27.5 vs 29 anymore. Bikes are designed to be playful with 29s now. I’m 5’6.5” and love my Evil Offering (29). It’s way more poppy and playful than my 2019 Stumpjumper 27.5
@@punisher9oneone I totally get you. I'm also the same height. I just tried out an Ibis Ripmo and Ripley, and man those bikes are super playful. Time for another bike. Didn't think a 29ner could be this agile. Best bike I've ridden thus far
@@cliffsangelsphotography I'm sure in the early 29er days, height was a factor as they were most likely adapting 26" bike geometry to fit 29 wheels. However now days, bikes brands like Evil, Ibis, etc., have been designing bikes specifically for 29s and making them playful all mountain bikes vs big xc bikes to roll fast and monster truck trail irregularities. To a limit though. Someone who is 5'2" with a short inseam wouldn't be able to standover the 29 tire itself if they got off the back of the bike. lol
We're the same size. 27.5+ tires are great downhill, but for XC and climbing, 29ers rule. For my hardtail, I'm running 27.5 rear, 29 front. Those 2.8 27.5s are damn heavy. I just switched to Tubolitos...huge weight saving. You can really feel 1lb of tire weight.
Yeah 29s seem to rule for Xc for sure, still not sold on 29s 100% for a full squish trail bike yet, probably just ride my reign the rest of the this year anyways
Reason the Kona feels better is the Kona has a longer top tube than Trek does. I wanted to buy a Trek Fuel 8 but went to Norco Fluid instead. Norco top tube length is similar to Kona as oppose to Trek its shorter when all bikes were size large
Great bike comparison Toogy👍 Just had the same thing happen to me with our Hero 7, the stabilization turn off and the white balance exploded. Was fine for half the ride then changed battery and something happened but checked settings they are fine.
Great video. I'm deciding between a process 153 aluminum, a trance 2, and a reign 2. I ride parks like Kelso and blue mountain but also a lot of my local trail systems (I live in mississauga). I'm thinking the reign might be too much bike for my local trails though. What are your thoughts on these bikes?
yeah I think the Reign might be too much, I have a Reign 2 which is a great bike, but mainly use it for park riding. If I was going to be doing a lot of riding around here, I think the Trance is much better, but can still handle blue mountain.
@@ToogyHowser thanks for the reply. That's what I was thinking, plus my local bike shop has a trance 2 on sale for $2200 so I think that's the way I'm gonna go
You're probably better off with the 29er since your tall. At 6', for a longer travel bike I prefer 27.5 since I think it's best suited for rowdy stuff. More maneuverable and quicker to get up to speed. Nice job!
Nice vid Toogy. I would have thought the 29er would suit tall people like youself a bit better. What's the price on that Kona? The CAN$ is similar to the AU$.
letsgoridebikes how come? After some Demos i went with 27.5 the marginal speed and roll over advantage just wasn’t worth the weight and lack of maneuverability on the technical tight climbs and descents where I ride. For XC I can see 29er all the way
Dean Emberley, you make a good point, the terrain and kind of riding you do will influence what bike you ride. Where I ride, we have a lot of rocky, gnarly, loose, fast terrain so the bigger wheels are super advantageous. Newer geometry, shorter offset forks, etc. make tight, technical corners way more manageable. With enough body language, good cornering technique (not braking in the turns), big wheels are still playful and fun to ride!
letsgoridebikes wasn’t my experience when I tried a Pivot Swtichblade with 29 wheels. I went for the 27.5 wheels on the Mach 6 instead. Back to back rides on each bike and I was able to maneuver the M6 more easily. 29 would be fine but I think too many people are following Trends. Long and slack can only do so much. Also, I don’t hit my rear end on a 27.5 like I do on a 29er. If anything makes more sense to go with the 27.5 rear and 29 front which seems to be yet another recent trend

Thanks! It really is a nice bike, just too rich for my blood lol
I only just started watching this video but looking like you're getting a better bit rate on the video. Quality is upped a ton!
Interesting. So this is better than my recent videos? I haven’t changed gear, render or editing settings, that is weird

Nice review, I'm still waiting to get my 29er, thanks for the video. You ever figure out why the camera settings changed?
nope, hopefully just a freak occurance
Congrats on the handup deal! I'll keep you in mind when I buy a second pair!
thanks!
This comparison doesn't mean much unless you are comparing XL to XL, which is your size.
Reason I like 27.5 better is techy climbs, going downhill I like 29 but there is a bigger difference going up and not that big of a difference down
The 27 is better on climbing? And another question, which is better on a straight line? Thanks

$6299 cad
