I'm always looking for music to feature in my videos! If you're a musician and are interested, email me at missmarijohnson@gmail.com. Thanks!
Watched this video when I came out and just got to do the crossing a few days ago!! Such a beautiful hike🌟 thank you for inspiring me with your video!
There’s an even more spectacular 2 Day Tongariro Alpine Crossing from Waihohonu, including Mt Tongariro - it's less crowded and offers a unique overview of the Tongariro National Park. Worth considering if you want more time in this thrilling part of New Zealand. Also means you have a 2 day weather window to bag some stellar views. Beware, it - could start a life-long hiking obession, lol😀. Happy & safe hiking☺.
Good advice, didn't know about it!
I loved doing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, its a great hike.
I remember doing this a few years- i was almost comatosed at the end of the hike lol also, we went in a group and at one stage the instructor had to hold my hand walking on top of the loose sand. And i will never forget the devils staircase. I thought i was reasonably fit until i did this hike. You are so brave! (And fit obvi)
At school we did it annually. Love it, on our way down we raced to the finish.
What an amazing place to hike! OMG that landscape.
You inspire me!! Going back in Nov.’18 especially to do this. I can’t wait! Thank you, Mari!
Awesome! It's still one of my favorite hikes I've done in New Zealand!
Misty clouds... middle of nowhere.... A great place to get lost and find yourself...
That looks like an amazing hike! I'm glad the sun came out so you could get the views at the top! Love the little jump at 8:29!
+Perfect Little Planet Yeah it was amazing! haha thanks!
Great Video. Love seeing all the adventures.
Always take the weather with you.
Wow 6 hours! You still looked so fresh at the end of the video. I would've been probably vlogging it passed out on the ground somewhere haha - Nick
+The Drunken Bear haha yeah it wasn't too bad!
6 hours and 17km is nothing to an experienced hiker
This looks really cool!! Thank you so much for sharing :)
Wow, I did that in 199something. Super interesting to see what changed and how it looks like now.
The color of these lakes :) wow!
+Rafal Glaz Seriously!
What an amazing hike!! Very cool landscapes!
Hi Juan-Carlos. It is an amazing place. There’s an even more spectacular 2 Day Tongariro Alpine Crossing from Waihohonu, including Mt Tongariro - it's less crowded and offers a unique overview of the Tongariro National Park. Worth considering if you want more time in this thrilling part of New Zealand.Happy & safe hiking☺.
Loved that trail ! I was there in 2007. I really want to go again. New Zealand is awesome !
There were so many people when we went lol. We did Mt Doom and it was so hard with the loose rocks. I wouldn't have done it but Mark forced me lol. It took us 10hrs to finish and the end was torture - those damn stairs lol
That's awesome though! I want to go back to do Mt. Doom!
Hey Mari! I live in NYC and love your Videos
What a gorgeous hike! You were so funny with your layers, lol. 😊
+Lielle Haha yeah I'm always so interested what other people wear for this kind of stuff, thought other people might want to know too!
This was a great video. I really loved those views and that blue water! wow!! :-)
+Kasey Belle Thanks Kasey!
Thats awesome.
awesome !!!!
Youre so brave! Wow :) love your videos :)
+Mélissa Paquet Aw thanks Melissa!
Very enjoyable. Mahalo Mari Johnson.
+sean riordan Thanks Sean!
Something to correct : you CANNOT park your private car for more than 4 hours, so you can't take it and hike the whole trail. Just take a shuttle. They are cheap and very well organized. And they take your name and will not abandon you (or so they say :-) ) But if you don't want to do the whole trail, then just hike the first few miles until you arrive to the first climb. It's gorgeous (if not as spectacular of course) and you will get back to your car on time. Don't skip the water fall just before the climb.
Thanks for the update, Flo! This is a new law since I went. Good to know!
Wow, that looked incredible! You look so happy :)
+Debra Walker Yes! Hiking is my happy place! :)
I just discovered your channel and can't stop watching all your adventures! Where are you going next?
+Jason Hu More traveling around NZ for a month!
Good looking trail. Surprise to not see mountain bikers. Great vlog as always....🚶🚶🚶😊
+A. Olaer I don't think they're allowed on this particular trek.
youre awesome and even though i dont comment much id like to say i watch all your videos!
+plusgirlbworld aw thanks girl! xo
When we did it, it got nasty, 24hrs in a snow storm because we came across 3 people who had no idea about NZ weather, luckily we did. Dug in with a tarp and had a radio so we could keep in contact with rescue service, to all oversea tourist this is not Europe with thousands of tourist.
cool
what did you bring to eat/drink on this type of hike? Was it enough? Curious because I wouldn't know what to bring.
+makeupunlimited I took an apple, trail mix, and a sandwich, and 1.5 liters of water. It was enough for me, but depends on you!
all the places you go to look so dope. you need a travel buddy? I could be your camera man haha. great vid
Around 6:30 looks like Emyn Muil. The spot where frodo and sam got lost and found gollum.
how cold is it now in that part of the world? you look pretty chilly before going up.
Which track did you take which car park ???
Few route
Hi, thanks for sharing this. May I know when did you do this hike?
This was April 😊
I'm planning tomorrow for Tongariro crossing... any tips for solo hiker like me? do i need to register at visitor center b4 starting tha hike?
its so funny seeing your clothes changing
+Emma B haha yeah the weather changed so quickly!
I think this is my favourite vlog of yours Mari. Inspirational and breathtaking. Absolutely wonderful :)
+Tom Best Aw thanks Tom!
hi your videos are really interesting and I love your free spirit , you look bit like an oriental people also very beautiful :-)
i like cause they have the pathway... i will hike arcadia national park in maine this june and im scared id get lost cause it is my first time.
+Diana Ragub yeah it's a super nicely maintained track!
Hey, did you go in a April of last year?
Were 4 layers enough while up there? Did you wish you brought more layers or less? Did you wear your rain pants? :) Safe travels!
+Reg B 4 layers were more than enough! And no, I never wore the pants.
+Mari Johnson Thanks for the info! I'm going to Australia & NZ in July. I heard the key to stay warm is to layer, so I'm trying to learn how without looking like an abominable butterball.😆
You are really cute..love it your vlog.
Tongariro Te maunga
Taupō Te moana
Te Heuheu te Tangata
Ngāti Tuwharetoa te Iwi
When you walk our lands never forget your footsteps fall upon the pathways first traversed by the ancestors of the Tangata whenua
You're challenge is to deepen your experience by researching the indigenous world you are walking in ... Forget The Lord of the Rings - the indigenous stories would blow your mind in ways JRR Tolkien couldn't even imagine
Hey Mari! Have long is this hike (km)?
Hi DreamJulie. It's 19.4km (12 miles). You should allow 7 - 8 hours with reasonable fitness. There’s an even more spectacular 2 Day Tongariro Alpine Crossing from Waihohonu, including Mt Tongariro - it's less crowded and offers a unique overview of the Tongariro National Park. Worth considering if you want more time in this thrilling part of New Zealand. Also means you have a 2 day weather window and you can pace your fitness. Great boots and hiking poles will add confidence and make it much easier. Hope you go, you'll love it - could start a life-long hiking obession, lol😀. Happy & safe hiking☺.
Cold up there? your nose was red must be chilling!~~I like blue pool up there! Just like we can take a bath! Hey!
yeah, "takes between 5-8 hours". Wanna see 5 hours ))))) only if you run )
I have lived 30 minutes from these mountains for the past 25 years and I have never done this walk. This is my tribe (Ngati Tuwharetoa) sacred mountain and where we use to bury our chiefs. Mount Doom is also Mount Ngauruhoe ( Mount Nah - ew - rou - hoe - e).
+RUclips Sucks!!! You should definitely do the walk! It was by far one of my favorite things in New Zealand. And thanks for letting me know the correct pronunciation! All the best to you :)
RUclips Sucks!!! Sir Hepi Te Heuhu, thanks.
pretty bad weather, you shouldn't go with such weather, what a disgrace to be cloudy over the hill
Hi there, in which month did you visit this place? was it during winter?
