This is not only a useful tool, it's a great project! I think I'd like to check this out because I have smaller hands, and one could easily carve down the handle to a smaller width, and profile the sides to a taper. Very cool, thanks for sharing this!
It's nice, good and very pretty :)
The chiselgrind is because it is Japanese. They traditionally have loved that design for kitchen and work blades, you could look at some kiridashi, those are used for carving, gardening, bonsai, leatherwork, etc.
Oh Im aware, just not fond of the grind as I need to be mindful of the edge angle when transitioning to a paring cut. Completely personal preference on my end.
Great review. Nice job on finishing that handle. Especially liked that you explained the grain in relation to the proper technique for carving and sanding
Nevr seen that kit ..well done my friend
Thanks!
I think they are baised out of Japan with limited marketing here in the states. Good option for our carving friends outside the US
I've been wanting to build my own knife for a while now, but don't have the confidence to do it all by scratch, might pick one of those kits up, they look cool
They are really neat! So much you could do with it but yet such a simple kit to play with! I'm going to have some fun with mine and reshape it a bit as well.
cool kit!
It seems fun to assemble and you can use it!
It was very fun!!
Im also gonna do some extra modifications to it later, primarily to the blade and handle shape just to play with it more
@@CarvingisFun that's the best part, customizing it is YOURS! 😎
I think that is a great idea! You might say I'm nit picky but, I am Left handed and it's been My experience that I often have to "work" backwards because the bevel on most carving knives, is on the side for "wrong handers", lol. No kidding aside, some body should make Left Handed utensils for us with the left handed handicap! !
Ha!! I like that I am a wrong hander :)
You can choose the left or right hand on the website.
Oh no I’m over here trying to save money and I’m so tempted! 😅 I see on their website that they have easy standard in advanced knife making kits. Which one is the one that you made? Thanks for another great video!
I wanna say I got the standard one, but it was litteraly 2 years ago when I bought it! The main difference is the hardness of the wood handles
Hi! What is the difference between the s13 and s17 bevercraft wood carving tool set? Thanks!
The primary difference is the s13 has a "better version" of the detail knife and whittling knives. But in the end, they do the exact same thing
These look so cool! I might have to get one does anyone know if they sell other blade or knife type kits? Or any recommendations
Theyvsell a folding version too!
I would check out their website for all their stuff
@@CarvingisFunhow much does it cost? And how long did it take to ship? (I assume you live in us?)
Ooof, I got this 2 years ago so my experiences then may not reflect your experiences now.
But if memory serves correct, it was around $45 and took a week ta get to me.
I have a piece of wood, how do I know its type? I bought it as basswood but I don't trust it very much.
Sometimes thats a hard question to answer as many woods look similar to each other and some companies sell lime wood (which is harder) as basswood. This is why I look around as much as possible for good venders who are, at minimum, consistent with what they make. Sometimes the type of wood is harder, but if it is the same quality months or years down the line I stick with them.
Do you know who you bought it from and/or the company that makes the wood?
@@CarvingisFunI bought it a few times from where I bought it, it was good, but is there anything I can do to soften it?
Oh absolutely!
There are some that boil their wood to rehydrate them and make them softer.
I personally use a 50/50 or 70/30 mix of isopropyl or rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle as it both penitrates the wood and moistens it.
I have heard of others steeming them or setting them under a damp rag and letting it sit for an hour.
Basically, reintroduce moisture to the wood to make it softer. Keep in mind that too much can cause warping and splitting. But a spray bottle with water/alcohol mic is efficient and easy.
What is the difference between the 3 models? Difficult, standard, easy. What do they mean by that?
I am pretty sure that is in reguards to the wood hardness for the handle.
@@CarvingisFun thanks!
Corby rivets 😅
Lol, i dont know words :)
