My kids have never attended a public school. But we did private school up until last year. .. and the amount of things they ask you to buy is just 🤯🤯🤯
I went to look at their supply list this year... my 1st, 3rd, and 7th graders would have to bring things like (this is all on top of the usual school supplies): computer paper, card stock paper, paper towels, hand sanitizer for the class, tissue boxes, $25 gift card for the teacher to buy what she needs, baby wipes, markers and erasers for the whiteboard. Ziplock bags, liquid soap, bandaids, pack of stickers, sticky notes, 3x5 cards, play dough, disposable cups for hot liquids, plastic forks, and lysol wipes.
I'm pretty sure I'm missing some other things they had on there 😂
Oh and then the emails throughout the year of what to bring to class parties, what to buy the teacher for a Christmas gift, teacher appreciation gift, teacher birthday gift etc.....
This will be our second year of homeschooling. Something reeeeealy drastic would need to happen for me to send my kids back there!

In Texas, you do not need an umbrella school. So technically you could homeschool for free. Especially if you use the library. I spend money on curriculum though. I buy most of it used and sell it when I am done. The cost was quite low out of pocket. I find high school more expensive, but the curriculum is a choice. The money the public school asks for us is not.

Texas homeschooler here as well. I end up spending about $400-500 a year total on supplies and curriculum for my four kids, the are in 4th,7th,8th, and 9th grades. We also buy a lot used and searching thrift stores and online for deals on books. We don't do "school clothes" shopping, we buy what they need as they need it....

Nice video idea - as you mentioned, as homeschoolers you use the supplies from previous years - I guess if you would start homeschooling journey, then you would need to buy most of the supplies like for public school since you have not yet accumulated them ;)

@@Turtelik this it true sometimes. When we started our journey, we bought the crayons, markers, color pencils, etc. but really we just looked at the curriculum and figured out what supplies we would need and went from there. We didn’t need usb drives, or binders or lunch boxes, water bottles etc. So, if someone is just starting homeschooling, I would encourage that they look at the curriculum and see what they need to complete it. (For example, we would use things like mini erasers, legos, beans or dry pasta for maniplulatives for math and sorting instead of buying some.) Then take inventory around the house and see what you already have and make your list of what you actually need from there. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment! It means a lot! 🥰
