- In todays video I will do a long term review of the Ulter Sport exhaust system for the 2016-2021 Mazda MX5 ND N2
We will cover some notes regarding the installation, the looks, the way it sounds on cold starts, on regular drives, high way speeds and also when you are pushing.
I will also cover the negatives I have found with the system in general

Red interior is so cool 😊 I'm in the market for an RF I think 😅 still undecided. It will be my only car and I live in Wisconsin so an RF is the obvious choice but 100lbs added weight really bugs me. Also I know top down won't feel as open. Haven't even driven one yet but going to Los Angeles in a couple weeks and rented an RF for 5 days. I am so so excited ☺️.

You can do a quiet start with the ND If you put the gear in reverse before you push the Start Button😉. Try it ✌️

On the mustang the quiet mode is great you can set an interval for which when it should start in quite mode (but who does that :D)

Works in first gear too... Not too much quieter but I think it just idles lower.

BUT with the electronic valve!
I have to say, even with the valve closed it's insane, it adds so much more bass to the car and aggression.
with the valve open it's unbelievable. it sounds like a monster and not like a rice cooker.
And mine isn't even broken in. Also the stock exhaust started to sound better only after 5000km.
My Ulter only has around a 1000km on but it gets sounding better and better.
The Diffusor was okay to mount. Don't use the Windshield glue!!!! I used a car part glue from a professional shop. Worked fine.

The one with the valve totally bypasses on part of the exhaust.
I guess with the valve closed it sounds like "mine" and with the valve open it would be much louder :D
How is the wiring for the valve operation?
@@Themazcorner exactly! closed it sounds identical to your sound samples. open it gets way more aggressive mids in the sound and twice as loud. i mean you can drive it at certain rpm still nicely with a deep growl, but as soon as you hit the gas it's insane. really love it. so you can switch to stealth mode in the the city or at night and full insanity when driving mountain passages and stuff.
Wiring is so simple, you just plug it into the cigarette lighter power plug and that's it. controllable via remote. not with the gas pedal or so.
thanks for you video man, couldn't be any happier. with it, and really like the look of it. it's like it's stock on the car. police pulled me over because of my rims once, they didn't even notice the diffusor and exhaust. Even if I have all the papers, the just asked for the rims. haha
That’s great to hear!! I have a 1.5 ND (Europe) and I’m also looking at this exhaust with the electric valve! I love the sporty sound when pushing the gas but how is the sound on the highway? My mx5 ND is also my daily and I also want to be able to drive a bit comfortably to work (ofc with the valve closed). Can you pls tell me about your experience? Thank you so much,

Love the new update on the exhaust, it all sounds good. I went with gwr sstt and gotta say based off a comparison the gwr is a bit louder for anyone looking at this in the future. But that ulter looks sweet man, glad you love it!

When did the recordings I had the opportunity to actually do a comparison with the Moss exhaust and some GWW but it never occurred to me to actually do it 😂

@@Themazcorner yea I watched the whole video and I think you'll notice the difference immediately once you change the midpipe. I've got the full gwr package so Supersport Twin Tip and midpipe and it's bassy as heck and really sounds good on the road, even my wife doesn't mind it. The ulter look though is special so glad your representing it. Btw how are the roads in Sweden, been meaning to check it out after covid lol?

There are some really nice roads around Sweden however a quite flat topografi unfortunately. Where do you live? Regarding COVID we have not had any shut-downs as such fortunately
@@Themazcorner I'm based off the East Coast, NY area and the roads are pretty but terrible quality. Hoping to take a vacation next year to Europe and my wife loved Sweden but I havnt been so just getting ideas, especially if we rent a car.
Yea lots of mods on the miata and I run just about everything thru my wife first lol!

I have double dual tips from Ulter Sport and I am pretty satisfied, you're right that sound around 2000 rpm brings deep sound but nothing unpleasant. Great price/performance ratio in my opinion.

Nice review of the Ulter exhaust, I like the sound of euro exhaust. The boom you mentioned sounds to me like Drone. A lot of exhaust companies advertise no Drone mufflers, Is that the same thing you are describing.
thanks buddy! I guess the same thing but I would say it is different "characterstic" at least they way I experience. Drone is more constant and the "boominess" occurs when lifting of the throttle.
The Borla ATAK had none of that to be honest. I normal mode the exhaust was not audible at all in constant speed. In track it could be head slightly at 140km/h
Today I installed on my mx5 the ulter sport like yours. I must say that for daily street use is perfect. It sounds way better than the stock but it doesnt make everybody turns wich is good for me. Now I am already thinking of 4-1 headers or 4-2-1. I think the headers together with the ulter sport could be good. But I still have to think which header is best. Good wing, Aros or BBS.

Ciao Emanuele. I also have an mx5 RF ND2 and I am From Italy. Just a question. I am considering to get an Header 4-1 from Aros marmitte. Is it a good company that makes quality exhaust systems? Because I found on line their 4-1 Header for quite a good price compared to other companies. Anyway i will install tomorrow the ulter exhaust that also Max has in this video. Any suggestions are welcome. Grazie

Hey @Themazcorner, I've just mounted it yesterday and I have the pipes touching the plastic diffuser. Do you pipes touch it? and if not, can you please tell me how you solved it?
What I think of right away is
#1: If the "diffuser" is mounted to low
#2: You might have to adjust the pins that goes into the hangers so the damper gets a bit futher down
#3: Combination of #1 and #2.
@@Themazcornerthank you! To properly attach the "diffuser" what did you use at the end? 3M tape doesn't work at all. At the moment it's mostly held by the 4 screws. I'm start thinking to follow the glue route, but wanted to ask you first.
May I know are the exhaust tips deteachable from the back box so I can swrap with other compatible models?

In Sweden, no issues with the inspection with the Ulter exhaust as it is only a axelback system and it is not that loud.
are those pops I hear or the wind :) I just ordered my ulter sport exhaust yesterday after probably a year of contemplating my first expensive mod. Definitely beyond excited!!! Any chance you’d be able to share some tips before the install?

No pops unfortunately, I have since installed a catless and resonator deleted midpipe (have a video on that as well). It now sound really good but way to much for 184hp (Harely syndrome) :D:D
I have a video on the installation process as well. I had to use to use longer m10 bolts for where the resonator and OEM midpipe are connected. Also It is difficult to have the "diffuser" secured with only the 3 screws and 3M tape. I think the best is to also use some sort of glue.

Finns två modeller en overlay som min är där man fäster den med 3M tejp över Skyactive-märket! Den har suttit kvar sen jag satte på den.
Det finns även en variant som som man ersätter Skyactive emblemet helt.
Det blev en 30th r-f med 400mil på mätaren, väldigt nöjd hittills!

Thanks for your videos. I own an mx5 rf nd 184hp. I am considering to buy the ulter sport like yours. I like most the look. The central position of the double exhaust is much nicer than the originalone. I have a question for you because I found 3 kind of the same ulter sport exhaust. One is inox, one is black and anotherone is with an electronic opening valve. Do you know the difference between the inox and the black? Is it only a matter of materials or its also the sound? About the inox one with the electronic valve its very expensive. I would like a central exhaust because its amazing but at the same time i would not like to have a too loud sound which disturbs too much. Helppppp

The black version will not be in stainless steel so depending on where you live there is larger risk that it will rust. I would go for the stainless steel model. Between the black and stainless steel version there should not be any difference in sounds on the material
From my understanding the valved(electronically controlled) version is much louder than the none valved version as it bypasses the muffler on one side when the valve is opened.
The version I have (none valved) is louder than the OEM setup but it is not crazy loud of obnoxious in any way. It just sounds nicer :).

If I can ask you i am thinking to make my miata roll less. I am considering to change the sway bar in the rear but not the one in the front ( because is too anoyng to do ) . Do you think it can roll less this way or its nonsense? Thanks a lot. Greetings from Italy
@@lucianolucidi8624 I would not only change the read swaybar as that will usettle the car quite substantially. I would most definitely do the front if anything.
If not changing the swaybars coilovers/ other springs will help reduce the roll a bit.

@@lucianolucidi8624 many do use eibach springs, however I am not sure how much of roll that would be reduced with those springs.

the best way would be through eBay I guess! Do consider there are two versions of the exahaust one that is stainless steel and one that is not!

No spacers. The Advans I have are ET35 on a 8" wheel so comes much closer to the fender compared to OEM

it sounds and look much better than OEM for sure :). I cannot comment on which would sound similar. The cobalt system has the same tone but the volume is lower if my memory serves me correct.

I sure does, but I have a decatted and resonator deleted midpipe now and it sounds really nice(was not mounted when I recorded this video). Shame it's lacking 150whp to match the sound :D
It depends on where you live, in Euope it can be had for around 700-ish EUR, but if you are e.g. in US with customs and shipping it will get expensive
