UPDATE: new number for Total Philadelphia mintage 2024-P 58,320,000 as of NOV 2024
Modern rarity 2024 key date, nickels treasured by collectors
Lowest mintage 1950 Denver Mint, which was 2.5 million!
The Unite States Mint has created another modern rarity! So far, the numbers available for the 2024 Jefferson nickel productions stood at 36,720,000 minted at the Philadelphia mint, and 32,880,00 minted at the Denver mint.
This number makes it the lowest mintage Nickle in The US mint's Jefferson Nickle production since the 1950's that's over 65 years! where mintage numbers through the 1950's were under 90 million @ the Philadelphia mint.
Less than the 2009 combined production number of 86 million and 90% lower than current average production rates

I found s 2024 D in my pocket change a few weeks ago. I stop at the same gas station every morning for a biscuit and sometimes a cup of coffee. At the register, I hand the lady a couple of dollars, and she gives me back my change. Not 100% sure, but that's probably where I got it. I saw stories like this one and looked at sold auction prices on eBay. It's pretty cool to find a coin worth 100x its value in your pocket change.

@@SovereignCajun78 I agree imagine finding an entire box of 2024 D purchased from the bank and being able sell rolls for $50-$100 right now!
At $50 a roll that box would be worth $2500

The 2024 S Nickels are selling for almost $20 each. I have 32 left and should have bought more in early 2024.

The rolls u need say NF String & Son from Harrisburg PA on them. None from Loomis nor the brown wrapped ones that many banks do on their own. I’ve sold 3 2024 D’s for over $200 and am keeping 2 for myself.

@@RollerSkatinActor thanks for the heads up. I think I might’ve missed the boat though brother?
isn’t NF strings and son just the manufacturer of the paper spools / rolls and anybody could use them. But I think Brinks uses rolls that have their own name on it. i’ve also seen Loomis rolls with the name Loomis on them, but also I’ve seen the Loomis truck drop off NF strings and son around here in Michigan

So the price will go down when this becomes the new Norm four total coins minted. They'll probably start only producing this many from now on which will make these coins not very special in the future

@@Tim99-lg7kn I don’t think this will ever be the norm. They produce what they need to keep up with demand. It just so happens. The demand wasn’t there this year, or they used their resources to produce quarters or dimes or pennies for that demand. also recources will be focused on the 250th anniversary coins so 2025 might be affected by that so we can expect lower mintage coins in 2025.

low mintage will always create demand because if you are one of the 40 million to 100 million U.S. coin collectors. you will struggle to get your copy in mint condition if the production is low. like the west point quarters. the key to value is supply and demand.
