    I have a Polo 6N, 1.4 mpi, the standard ignition timming idling is 6°BTC according to the marks on pulley , but the engine is sluggish somehow here, if I turn the dizzy few degres in advance I really get it snappy. This engine employs a single Hall sender located inside the distribuitor body, wich delivers the timming signal for injection as well, so advancing the dizzy won't advance the moment of injection before the intake valve opens, with bad effects over mixture?

    in what situation would you see the knock limit happen before mbt?

    • @engineeringcarsuniverse6524
      @engineeringcarsuniverse6524  4 года назад +4

      The situation that you describe is very common from mid-to-high load. I would dare to say that about 50% of the map is knock limited on natural aspirated engines. With forced induction, this percentage is way higher since engine load can go above 200%.

    what is the best ignition timing at high rpm?

    • @engineeringcarsuniverse6524
      @engineeringcarsuniverse6524  4 года назад

      Only considering speed and load, the optimal ignition timing increases as rpm increases, and decreases as load increases.

    I wanted to watch this video because I'm curious if boosting a 392 could be safer on the engine if timing is retarded. Maybe that can be more gentle on the engine but then again, it might not make any net power gains....
    *sigh

  • @mohammedjaseemp7074
    @mohammedjaseemp7074 2 года назад

    Thank you. I have a doubt. You said spark timing is retarded as the load increases and timing is advanced as rpm increases. But doesn't this contradict each other since the rpm increases as the load increases (% load = current airflow/Max airflow *100).

    • @Metroidfreek
      @Metroidfreek 2 года назад +2

      rpm is just how fast the engine is running, load is the resistance to the engine running. A car in neutral rev'd up to red line would have tons of rpm but no load, and a truck pulling a trailer at 1000 rpm would have a rpm but lots of engine load.

Someone walking into this video with not much knowledge is probably going to end up with a ton of questions then answers. I'm still waiting for someone to actually do a fucking detailed video translating all this in real time. Guess never gonna happen as always 🤬

    nice video, thanks for sharing. I have BMW M4 (S55 engine) and still thinking of ignition timing corrections which I can see at my datalogs. It is random, cylinders are changing, the difference is usually up to 3 deg.sometimes up to 5 deg. Some tuners say that this is caused by low fuel quality so I have tried all branded fuel from 95 to 100 OCT and the datalogs are always almost the same. Is this a standard engine behaviour or should I look for some problem? Thanks, Richard

    Excellent!!!! Best vid. Def saving ! Ty! I just didn’t understand in the beginning when u said advance but it looks like your retarding . If advance does it mean to turn the timing in the direction of the engine movement when turned on ? So does that mean the spark is sparked when the piston is past the top dead center ?

    Why overheat when delayed timing is used? makes no sence or is it because of the exhaust gases have not enough time to leave before ex. valve closes which means that "old" hot exhaust gas is caught in comb?
