fun fact: in typical mamamoo fashion, all the members address an important issue or break a social norm in this mv - solar performing with drag queens - wheein raising awareness for climate change - hwasa calling out people who slutshamed her for wearing comfortable clothes while traveling - moonbyul taking on careers that are usually male-dominated (CEO, director, choreographer)
Remember, this was the clap back song co written by Hwasa when she recieved all that hate for the airport outfit. That's why one scene was President Hwasa dressed ridiculous at the airport.
Multiple separate incidents of hate for all of the members, not just Hwasa's airport picture stuff. Look at MoonByul's rap lyrics through the entire song. Hwasa is not alone but her airport incidents were the last straw for everybody. These 'critics' are just haters, plain and simple. They all need the spotlight shone on them, especially when they DON'T WANT IT on them. They need to have their entire lives dissected just like they love to do to everybody else. Make them INFAMOUS even if they are not wealthy. Treat them the way they treat other famous people. MAYBE they change their tune after that. Better yet, they can shut up entirely and find something more CONSTRUCTIVE to do with their time. :)
@@jamescurfman3284 Yes. I only mentioned hwasa at this time as I have already mentioned the others and what they went through on previous reactions but thank you for your comment because this way other people who don't know , learn
There are about a half dozen outfit changes in the MV. They each play themselves as Mamamoo (the 1st Universe) in the initial red & black outfits, then each of them plays herself leading a totally different life in three alternate universes. Later they're in white shirts & jeans as a group and in one of the scenes with Solar's glam band I think the other members are in other outfits. The point is that all the unusual women they play deserve respect rather than criticism for being out of the norm. Even in the most stereotypical female role Hwasa plays a mom with a unique sense of housecleaning fashion and her own way of vacuuming (do you say hoovering?) by plowing through the kid's toys. Hip is both a message song that redefines Hip as being yourself and doing your own thing rather than the usual slang meaning of cool or trendy as well as a diss track mocking their haters as people who spit in their own faces when they criticize Mamamoo and others for being themselves, whether it's how they dress, their lifestyle or their career choice. Btw, you didn't mention the drag musicians in Solar's band but that's another marginalized community who are subject to hate comments. As the saying goes, in Hip they were trying to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. They continued their campaign against internet bullying with discussions on live streams and via a projected message and a rap by Moonbyul to start their performance at an award show. Hwasa later addressed how she has been personally affected by hateful comments in her solo masterpieces Maria and LMM (Lost My Mind). Hip and Maria are two of their biggest hits. Hwasa co-wrote Hip's lyrics, which refer to several controversies over what she wore or didn't wear to the airport. The first was when she wore an outfit with partially unbuttoned jeans exposing male style underwear. Another time she wore a crop top resembling a sports bra, triggering a flood of complaints that she wore a bra to the airport. She didn't respond publicly and instead the next time she went to the airport she didn't wear a bra under her flimsy top. When a reporter asked about it she coyly said "I was just dressing comfortably." That's our girl. 🤣 RBW had previously told Mamamoo not to respond to the never ending flood of hate they get for being different but in 2019 they altered their policy and Hip was the result. Imo RBW finally realized that internet bullying is a serious social issue. As you may know, S Korea has one of the highest suicide rates in the world and there had been several celebrity suicides associated with malicious sm comments and bullying during the year or two prior to Hip.
Since no one mentioned it yet I think I should elaborate a bit 'bout the concept of this particular MV (which has a big, cannot compensated flaw that it's not a 2hrs-long movie). As you may have noticed, there's multiverse activity goin on. So, Mamamoo members were asked "What would you do if you're not Mamamoo?" and their answers as shown in this MV are Solar: a runaway princess, a boxer, a rockstar (with her drag queen bandmates I must add) Moonbyul: a director, a choreographer, CEO of a music company Wheein: an environmental activist, a painter, an indie musician Hwasa: a stay-at-home mom, a musical actress, president of the government Notice how there're both male-dominance professions as well as what we may called "traditional female roles". As the lyrics says at the beginning of the song, "I respect you no matter what you do". They had 12 short teasers introduce more in details about each role, which sadly didn't carried much into the actual MV. You should watch it in your own free time. In all these teasers and the main MV, you can see that even in a universe without Mamamoo, Mamamoo would still eventually come together.
Jajaj. It always cracks me up when people ask if that little girl is her daughter. 😊😊😊 HIP was actually the first Mamamoo song I heard and instantly fell in love and have never looked back. They don't only do a bunch of different outfits,, they do a bunch on different attitudes and a bunch of different universes. I hope we get another Mamamoo comeback. I know it's more difficult now but one can hope.
You should see the behind the scene of this MV. The staff and the director can't help laughing to their antics when they were filming the MV. There were videos where you can hear the director laughed to the point he is out of breath watching Mamamoo being their chaotic selves
This was after Wheein learned drums for a concert mentioned in the guide. She learned the drums for Hip before they recorded the m/v so while other members were (badly) miming playing instruments Wheein was playing drums at full volume for real and freaked out the director 😂.
You got it right. Since Mamamoo writes their own music based on their own experiences, they always sing it like they live the song, very in character and you can feel they are singing from the bottom of their heart. Sadly not many Kpop nowadays can do that. Most of them were given the song by the company and they just have to accept what ever it is. There're Kpop Idols who admitted that they hate their songs. Even big group like Black Pink has the same fate. Rose from Black Pink once get into a huge fight with the writer of their song since the writer and the company didn't let her change the lyrics that she hate.
The little girl is just playing Hwasa's daughter in this MV. Each of the members got to pick three jobs that they wanted to portray and one of the ones Hwasa picked was a mother.
Love your analysis at the end, their attitudes imo are a huge part of what draws in fans,, they're extremely passionate about their music and willing to push boundaries to be/do who/what they want. Solar with the split hair (as you pointed out) was something she received push back on but decided she wanted to do no matter what. Very 'Hip' of her 😉. The 'news' headlines in Hwasa's scenes are referring to actual events (that I think were mentioned in a guide, can't remember if it was in one that you reacted to, but it's regarding her airport fashion that shockingly became news online), giving the song & those scenes even more personal meaning. Hopefully you enjoy the dance practice as well! Looking forward to it & more MMM Mondays (plz YT no more blocking 🙏🏻)!
Hahaha. I love how you did several Mamamoo videos and only now say "This sounds like pop". As someone who is not a fan of pop (my taste is more ballad, musical,...) I get it. Mamamoo doesn't usually sounds like typical pop and I love that
Hwasa caught a bunch of crap for not wearing a shirt at the airport (that was in Purple Hawke's guide; I think her Sports Bra was just fine, personally). She caught more crap a different time for not wearing a bra at all, just a T-shirt. AND there was another time where she caught crap for having a street-punk look. She literally cannot do anything RIGHT, according to these incredibly strict, mean, ANONYMOUS, FACELESS critics who decidedly are not famous themselves so they never have to deal this sort of crap from anybody. They can dish it out just fine but can they take it when their own shit is shoveled right back onto their own heads? ALL of the members have their share of haters but Hwasa's situation was the last straw for all of the members. 'HIP' is the group's collective IDGAF song, purposely meant to be a giant middle finger pointed directly in the faces of their cowardly anonymous haters, bullies and trolls.
Just a heads up- sometimes live performances get blocked not because of the performance itself, but because of the studio logo in the video. So for the most part, if you blur out the logo or just cover it up it should be able to upload without getting blocked. There’s still some videos that will get blocked regardless, like usually vlog videos get blocked. But live stages you can usually get away with just removing the logo.
can you react to this video essay made by a MooMoo, it is really well made. its title is "why MAMAMOO is the most underrated kpop group" made by "nahiseokie"
