Wow! I knew this year was bad but seeing the complete picture of all the sets together is depressing. Yeah this wave was atrocious, aside from the two that were pretty good.
The only Marvel set I was interested in was the Sanctum Sanctorum, which is really good. Fun to build, looks great. I still feel baby Groot wants to kill me in my sleep… 😅 The Black Panther bust… I’m just not feeling it. Plenty of companies offer busts and replicas that look better and aren’t necessarily more expensive. The buildable figure just leave me puzzled. It didn’t work for Star Wars back in the day (Except for General Grievous), it still doesn’t today, even with the updates and less gappy design.
I liked some of the figures of the Santorum like spiderman mordo, sinister strange and zombie strange the others were fine but they definitely need an upgrade
Interesting completely disagree. The SS is just another modular in disguise, same old same old, I personally think the bust is a stunning display set. Tbf all my sets are display, I never play with them, so the SS is just an expensive building facade.
@@Montyh7 Right , a good portion of the detail is tucked away inside as is the case with all modulars. It is still nice though , have zero regrets buying it....just as I will have none when I purchase the Black Panther bust , its an amazing set. But they are being disingenuous with their messaging on the Black Panther bust , its fine though....just need voices for the opposite end of that spectrum. Stay tuned.
Great video! I agree with your ranking for the most part. I really liked the Gargantuan Showdown set and want to keep that one on display. I'm convinced Baby Groot is cooler than I originally thought but I think I would have ranked it just below Modern Art. Loved hearing your perspective!
My fav marvel set is the black panther bust. My favorite types of lego sets are buildings (like Modular’s or the sitcom sets) and the helmet style sets so it really makes it a day one buy for me
At least some of the stuff next year seems pretty good. After the Bugle, I've been liking the non-MCU stuff and it seems like we're going to be getting some interesting stuff.
I agree with you on the Iron Man Armory set. Although I do like the 3 Unique Minifigs of the Mark 25 "Striker" Armor, Whiplash, and the War Machine (not sure if this particular WM is only from this set or released in others?). I have to add that I like the Audi R8 build somewhat, not in that it looks like an Audi R8 Spyder, because it doesn't...but because of the ability to carry that 3-Piece Stark Expo map in the storage area just like in Iron Man 2 movie!!! Also, can I just say I love the Stark Expo 3-Piece map, that thing is so cool to have to put on a Minifig scale wall of Tony Stark's garage MOC i am working on! I also enjoy the Snap-On Tool Box in this set and the Snap-On Drill Press as well, as these are nice piece for my Auto Shop MOC I am working on atm. However, Everything else about the set is just not good! My biggest gripe is that the individual Armor Storage Cells should have been the same build as the previous 2 Armories!
My roommate got the groot set and i was showing it to a friend that was over and he thought the cassette tape was an actual tape and didn’t realize it was lego until he was holding it.
The armory is one of the rare ones you can buy for the figures and sell for the model because some people will want more of those suit displays(even tho 2019-2020 design is much better
I know that 2022 was a bleak year, but form the leaks we saw a couple months ago, we found out about a ghost rider set, a spider man set with Morbius, hulk and rocket raccoon mechs, and in 2024 were gonna get fantastic four sets because the MCU ff is coming out that year, think of this year as a small, scratch that, quite large pothole in a smooth paved road yet to come.
Holly, you do a great job on these videos. I agree with you on the buildable figures. What is Lego thinking? You would think they'd learned something from the failure that was the Star Wars buildable figures, but they're still making buildable figures.
I really hope Lego DC and Marvel Super Hero's do an adversary theame with remaking the Sam Raimi Spider-Man Trilogy sets and The 2000's Batman or early 2012 DC set's....No I know so many people including myself would by all if them in a heartbeat
As a very VERY casual fan of Marvel Lego, I honestly don't think they ever have what I would consider to be a truly good year. The whole reason I don't like it is that the majority of sets (any year) just aren't that appealling.
i hard disagree with most of these i understand the price on the black panther set is atrocious but that shouldn't take anything away from the set and i for one love the new iron man hall of Armour its not as good as the og but it still looks great. the black panther mech is good and the claws on the wolverine are just right
Unpopular opinion: The 2022 Hall of Armor design is better than the previous one. The only things going against it are the overprice & the incompatibility with the other ones
I didn’t really get that many marvel sets this year not just because of how lazy the sets are but also because marvel as a whole has not been making good shows and movies recently which is why I refuse to get the love and thunder set, the only set I think I remember getting was that small doctor strange set and that’s honestly it.
I think that the reason LEGO hasn't put out any more DC sets than we have gotten is because of the crap going on at Warner Bros. Discovery where a bunch of DC shows and movies have been getting cancelled. And I agree with Holly, LEGO Marvel has been kind of lackluster this year.
With all the complaints of the alley of the Sanctum being to big, I'd like to make it known that it has a bigger base in both directions than the bugle
“Who is buying these” I can answer that question 8 year olds who like lego and like spider man there a market for them do I think they need minifigs yes but that can be said for a lot of sets
Not a big fan of the Constraction slander but you provided insightful commentary on the low quality of this years Lego MArvel toyline. And even us Bionicle fans agree the Constraction toys Ironman, Spiderman, etc. were fucking insulting and really poorly engineered.
If they would listen to the fans and not make what they think we want it might due better. I would love to see a new hellacarrier or a big avengers tower about the size of the daily bugle
Marvel sets this year have actually been pretty good in my opinion. Both the Love and Thunder sets are great, I Am Groot is adorable, the figures are pretty good, and the rest are okay. The only one I don't like is The Sanctum Sanctorum. It's a disappointing set to me, lacking the amount of interior detail I wanted and some rather underwhelming minfigures.
The buildable iron man set was great. It gives me hope for the future of BIONICLE. I don’t think your dismissive attitude towards the buildable figures was charitable towards lego fans who are into constraction. I think you should do some research.
I just realized when watching this that there hasn't been one Lego Marvel set that I've bought or wanted this year. Had Sanctum Sanctorum been more comic-based I would have snatched it up to go with the Daily Bugle. Once I found out that it was movie-based I lost all interest.
I don't understand the Black Panther bust it should just be in the regular helmet series. It should have been the Spider-Man No Way Home Statue of Liberty scene for the Marvel $350 set.
I'm waiting for a GWP or x2 VIP for Sanctum. I might give Groot another look then. Promo pics still look like nightmare fuel to me. But saving money for sure with this years line. Marvel shows also looking pretty sus these days. She-Hulk is an embarrassment. Even the cgi & we've had floating heads like Tony, Bruce & James in the past. 💀
Most of the sets you showed I would get for extra part and mini figs.goat boat look s good but then there s that other Vikings one plus the brick link Vikings set to go with it ..but I not collect Viking sets .
There are only three sets I would want to buy from this year and I probably won’t buy any of them because other themes and older marvels sets have a better selection to choose from.
The Black Panther bust when I first saw it I thought it would be $80 to $100. When I saw that it was $350, I thought "well that must be a typo, they'll eventually change it", and when they didn't my only thought was "for that price it better be bigger than I am!" No way will I ever pay $350 for that!
Hot take: LEGO marvel is generally a flop, the only saving grace for the theme is usually the figures but they can even be lackluster because they get no leg printing like 80% of the time
Lately their biggest saving grace has been sets geared towards adults. The sanctum is a top tier set that I think every body would love to own, and the benatar is one of the best lego sets I have EVER owned
Admittedly I’m not a comic reader, but what is with all the Marvel mechs? Are there a lot of mechs in the comics? I liked The Goat Boat, Sanctum, Gargantos and Nano Gauntlet. The rest of the Marvel stuff can get in the 🗑. I think Groot and also those buildable figures are some of the worst looking Lego sets I’ve ever seen. Glad to see the People have high praise for the Sanctum and dump on that Black Panther bust. I agree 100% with your assessment.

The disrespect to black panther tho, dissapointed
And this was before the reveal of the UCS Hulkbuster!
Totally agree with your list. This output is really lacklustre when you see the standard and value of themes like Speed Champions.
I always love how Holly's tiers are funnily named.

The Gargantos and Sanctum Sanctorum or the only sets that I like out of this group.
How do you sell Lego after you build it? What is the platform and how much do you usually get back?
Usually on eBay, and when it's just the build and no minifigures most times it's about half depending on how new the set is

I think Lego 2022 has overall been a drop-down from 2021. For me, 2021 and 2016 are still the overall high-points in terms of sets.
I still hate the new Iron Man helmets. They are so awful and I refuse to keep them. Honestly, you can't beat the original ones!

LEGO quite frankly murdered the DC theme.
