One of the cryin' shames of 2001. I think CM would have won the Gold. Thanks for putting this up.

    What a good looking bird!
Of course, it looks just as good now, restored back to original military configuration.

@@Voodoo1650 I sometimes spend hours a day watching your excellent videos reliving the "bygone" days. Too bad but I think the Unlimited class will never return to it's former glory, so sad. Now we have the "Sport" class trying to fill the shoes of the big boys and while they are fast they're not colorful and exciting to watch.

Such a pretty plane!! Too bad it never went very fast....

Yeah so, second place was 40 mph faster. 446 is slooooooow for Reno.

Tom Dwelle was just talking about this on his channel a week or so ago.
The problem was oil temp: the plane could go faster, but the oil temp would spike, so they'd have to slow it down.
A pair of oil coolers were installed in the wings, but the ducting was all wrong - and the engine still ran as if it didn't have them at all. By the time if was all sorted out other problems arose - and then the crash.

Proof that cubic dollars won't get you a win. Even as BMB she never reached her full potential.
