  • A new day in Sweden and I check out some islands! I get my bike and I hit the road on a beautiful day. The sun is shining and the ferries and fun. Unfortunately, things don’t go to plan! Be safe out there! Enjoy!

      Thank you for watching! Oh yeah, these islands are beautiful, I’d love to go back some day. Not in winter though! Too cold! 🥶

    Thank you, it was a nice video.
    You almoste did a "tourist promotion video"!
    Those big car ferrys is part of our road system, those are free, and used in our north islands!
    There is altso car free ferrys to our south islands, those frome "Saltholmen" (another place) its part of our public transportation.. if you payd your ticket to go there by tram or bus its free!
    Hönö Klåva is the big tourist trap, not bad, but more touristic, open the whole year!
    In anyway, many people on those Islands comute to Gothenburg for work!
    Sweden have become an almoste cash free country, but mostly all places accept credit/debit cards.. if you use your PIN-cod!

      Thanks, Stig! Are you from the islands? The ferries were very cool but I wouldn’t want to ride them in the winter! 🥶 I loved cycling around the islands, I would definitely go back some day!

      @@TravelWithBen121 No Im not frome those islands, but I do have friends that heretige property out there, its expensive!
      In anyway.. what to do if one get "international friends" visiting you.. its easy to drive them by car to Hönö Klåva.. and they get amazed!
      However you get the "Ö" right, you can learn more about to prunonce the "Å"!
      Then to "Hönö Klåva", its not about hens, its rather an old norse word for home island, and Ö is island, and Klåva is similar to "Cleavage" a split.. a split on the island where one could keep there fishing boats, I presume?
      In anyway you did a great job, promoting "Gothenburg", and our islands!
      Why is Gothenburg the only city that got an english name, its spelled and pronounced "Göteborg" in swedish.. and then, why is gothenburg calld "Little London"? More mystery to exploit and learn about!???

    • @TravelWithBen121
      @TravelWithBen121  6 месяцев назад +1

      I’m sure it’s very expensive to live on the islands! Is it very desirable to Swedish people to live there? It seems very peaceful. I don’t know why Gothenburg is the only one with an English name 😂😂

    • @stiglarsson8405
      @stiglarsson8405 6 месяцев назад

      @@TravelWithBen121 Its not that much more expensive to live on those islands, its rather this that wealthy people in Gothenburg buy property/summer cottages out there! It make it difficult for those born there to stay!
      To the name of "Gothenburg", and then "Little London", its about the influx and influence of brittish traders/merchants, moste of them was scotts, whatever, they speak english, and "Llittle London" was established!

    Lovely video! My grandfather built a beautiful house on Rörö when he was young, where my mother and her three sisters grew up. I spent many summer weeks there with my six cousins, and we always had a fantastic time. Those are some of my fondest childhood memories. My aunt owns the house now, so I usually visit for birthday celebrations or parties :)

    You should visit during summer. Sweeds often stay inside during winter. Also there is a lot less tourism. During summer is the opposite. All the cafés, restaurants etc are open and the islands are bursting with life!

    Oh this was unexpected! :D Im happy that crash didn't end worse. And that you made it out here. You passed by my place from 200m. I've lived here all my life. Alot of people move into the city or something when they are young, but many come back when they want to settle down and start a family. Because it's a very safe and good place to grow up. So there might be alot of elderly, but it's more about families :) I don't know for how long my family have lived here. It's for generations ^^
    The name Hönö has actually nothing to do with "hen", as many would assume. The old name is Heinö = Brynsten - intending the round "hällar" (outcrops(?)) found in some places. The old name for Öckerö is Eikreyia, which is Icelandic and means "Oak Island/Island of oaks" (which are basically none left). And actually, this is not the nordic sea nor the baltic sea. It's called Kattegatt, and it's right at the border to Skagerack north of Rörö.
    When it comes to catching the last buss, you where looking at the Direct Buss(/Express Buss) - it is very smooth though, and you should catch that one if you can :) The busses on the islands go until about 22-23. But you can also take an other buss on the other side to Gothenburg until about 02. But yeah, you should still be wary of this, because at times they dont go very often. And at night the ferray go once an hour.

      You live on Hönö???!!! Really?? That's amazing! I LOVED visiting the islands, they were all fascinating, it definitely seems like a peaceful place to grow up when your young or old, but I understand why may 'young adults' move away to Gothenburg and beyond. I would love to visit the islands again in summer, I had a great day taking the bus/ferry and cycling around. The national park in Rörö is something I will never forget. Very very lucky people live their lives there! Thank you so much for watching! Share my video with friends on the islands HAHA!

      @@TravelWithBen121I was born on Hönö, but I live on Öckerö where you took your detour :D Yes it's beautiful. I got stuch on Rörö for 3 days once when sailing, so I've made the same exploration as you did. Hope you're coming back! :) I will.
