Did my version of that. Smoked like crazy and the neighbor shut me down. Lol.
Have to use very dry wood.

I got a 30 gallon and a 55 gallon steel barrel to make something like this, but the 30 gallon barrel has the kind of lid that's fused on to the top, while the 55-gallon has the kind that comes off with a ring like the smaller one in this video. Is there a way I can still use it to make biochar? I could chisel the top off but it would just be the inner circle so it wouldn't be able to rest on top. I was thinking of chiseling the top off, then filling it with wood, and placing it in an inverted 55 gallon barrel then turning it over so the open part would be on the bottom and the bottom of the 55 gallon drum would hold the wood in the 30 gallon drum, but maybe there's an easier way that would require less difficult maneuvering?

You could probably cut the top off and order just a lid and a ring. While you're waiting for delivery, you could just use the 30-gallon as a TLUD oven. The holes might be different, though.

Cut the top off at 3” below the edge so the lid has a 3” vertical sidewall. Use a duct crimper at the top edge of the barrel and that will allow the lid to fit snugly down over the crimped edge. That will allow the top to be removed for filling and closed for burning.

Really confusing and at the end I still have to look up another video to know how to use it

Looks like a lot of fun.Great soundtrack. Thank you. Seems like you might be a bit safer running that hole hawg in reverse?

Three in One is a lubricating oil more than a cutting oil . Real cutting oil can be had in a plumbing , electrical or big box store . The composition is better suited to cooling not lubricating . 😜

The outside of the large drum needs 100 mm of insulation, rock wool would do the job.
Too much fuel is used, heat escapes from the outside drum.

Was thinking of using another drum with an air gap. Should do the trick.
