could you guys actually do a video on hand setting and what's being called (like can the ball rotate/spin at all or must it be 0 rotations/spins) ? it is hard to tell when just watching like on Amazon prime or even the videos on youtube what's being called or not and sometimes the poor video feed makes it look like the ball is spinning so when there's no call its kind of confusing for me. thanks!
Actually there is no rule that says the ball can't spin. However spin usually is an indicator that the hands didn't touch/release the ball simultaneously, which would be a double contact. I guess it's hard to make a video on hand setting because in the end it's always up to the ref to decide whether a set was good or bad.
As far as I understand it from what I heard from let's say third to second row pro players here in Germany it mainly comes down to how your hands follow through the ball in like does the one hand come out higher than the other. Apparently here in Germany it's mostly consensus among the refs that whenever the one hand comes out higher, that is called a double and the most important error in handsetting. And apparently therefore it's more or less unimportant whether or not the ball has a little spin on it. Furthermore lift calls are mostly disregarded altogether. However, Germany is not exactly the number one Beachvolleyball Nation out there and it was also not the absolute top athletes I picked these info up from, so I might be wrong. But these are my 2 cents anyway.
2Swift4u yes I've read that too on the net so I was thinking it's a pretty subjective call then so I was wondering if there was more too this call or if it's really up to the ref
Just watched your game against Phil and Nick. Great job, guys! You were very close to upset. Now i`m your fan! Good luck and thanks for the video lessons!
Love the content guys! Can we maybe expect some more tutorial videos? I learned a hell lot from your channel already, cant say thank you enough! I'd love to see a video on proper setting and techniques, also jumping technique in the sand perhaps? Good luck on your future tournaments! ;) ✌
I play court volleyball and thinking about playing sand volleyball over the summer(non competitively) I am trying to jump higher and get better at the fundamentals and tips to get better
Watching this video with the girlfriend reminiscing our first AVP tournament when she realized she heard my voice. Glad to see my clip of Rileys double made the final edit hahaha we got a good laugh from it!
IDK man.... I'm not so sure that's a call you make on Championship point. That probably stung Rosie's pocketbook a little bit... However after watching the replay in slow motion, that ball did rotate forward quite a bit. The vlog seems to be picking up steam. Great job as usual.
In the UK or I struggle with handling calls, where is now I play in Barcelona they seem to be very relaxed with the am I just getting better or is there a difference country-to-country.
The McKibbin Brothers thanks guys ! Really love your videos it's helping me alot to improve my game and gave me the push to try youtube as well ! Big respect and wish you guys all the best 🧔🧔
Hey, Bearded Bros, do you have any tips on improving technique of the hit and a good improvement exercise on vertical jump. Thank you, congrats on 9th place!
Double call was super iffy! Didn’t seem to be any rotation on the ball. Hands seemed clean but hard to tell in the video. To call something so borderline on match point is pretty cheesy. I wonder if it was called a double based on the direction of the set. You could maybe argue that the right hand left the ball after the left as he pushed it towards the net??
It also stuck to his hands for a split second longer than it should have. You can hear people in the crowd reacting to it instantaneously before the ref blew the whistle.
debateable call. for me looked more like a lift. it just looked like he took more than a second to release that set haha. thats just me being an indoor setter haha. its that the first red card you got in a tourney?
Its funny to see everyone have different opinions on what is a double and what isn't. Especially when the two codes (beach/indoor) have completely different styles, it makes a very grey area on what you should look for. REGUARDLESS YOU HAVE TO STAY CONSISTANT. Ive won two tournaments like this, if the call wasn't made and then I lost, I would have been so mad. But yeah double from me.
Your boy Tay Crabb just played the best defensive match maybe ever @mboFinal . Did I see him dig one handed with sunglasses in the other hand ? #PhilTaylorTokyo???
spinning is not a mistake! and that double while setting is a jerk's rule, 'couse nobody can tell was double or not for sure... and can anybody explain what advantage I get setting my partner with double touch? There shouldn't be no double mistake on second touch to partner
Ok, just looked for 20 minutes and cant find. He was in the booth with someone commentating, i thought it was Hermosa AVP, but maybe an earlier event this year
Dude I have nothing but love for Rozey but that call was easy to make. Hips uneven Turing with the ball and left hand clearly had contact alone and you never call on spin you call on contact you can see. Sad that the 2nd double Rosenthal ever committed in his life was during this game.
The real problem with this is that there is no clear definition of the rules for handsetting. Indoor and Outdoor the criteria for a bad hand set is the same but indoor refs just want to see a quick springy release and outdoor refs want everything to look smooth in and out even if it takes more time.
Outdoor you can take the ball down to your nipples, yell at your partner what you are going to set and then lift it up to him perfectly when he approaches.....oh and beach sets come with extra cheese. Like the guys are saying.....take that beach set indoors and its a whistle and lift call everytime. Conversly take the average indoor set to the beach and its a double everytime...because it rotates. If you play both, you adjust...if you coach both you pull your fricking hair out! And yes I exaggerated the nature of the beach set:)
I agree. He really "threw" that set to the net imo. Still a lot of refs would probably not have called it in that situation but I think it was an ok call.
@@themckibbinbrothers If the ref is willing to make a call at 4 to 3, they gotta be willing to make that same call on match point otherwise they have made them self part of the match by not being willing to make the right call.
Lovin’ these vlogs as always boys 🔥 Please do a handsetting tutorial vid with the AVP refs 😂
We will see you guys in HI and HB for the King of the Beach tourneys ;)
HOO BRAH, u know we are downnnn ;) get ready

I love how you guys get a collection of different videos and edit them together in funny way!
For half the video I was thinking "Wait...are they walking from Hermosa back home to Huntington Beach?" Haha.
Love the channel guys!
You guys are so amazing! Got goosebumps and all because of that one rally, had me all the way messed up how you never gave up. Straight up motivation✨
hands down the best volleyball channel out here out of of the five others ive attempted to watch
Madison I completely understand that kick. I can't explain it but I've done the same thing without even thinking. Still a great finish guys.
Thanks for your videos!
Also, standby for a call from the Rams when they need a punter.
"it's like playing Poland in Chicago" HAHAHAHAHAHHA
Just watched your game against Phil and Nick. Great job, guys! You were very close to upset. Now i`m your fan! Good luck and thanks for the video lessons!

The kick was so funny! I witnessed it! Ball into the ocean!😂😂
This video has everything I need. Excellent.

Ball sat in his left hand longer while he pivoted around to direct it...good call...even though it sucks to end the match on!
5:08 awesome! Was there a carry/lift while diving for the ball knocking it over? (I say no way, but why isn't it?)
I was dying in the end part with Rosie and the double call
love the lululemon!!

Chase lifted it. Kinda rough timing but right call
I would agree I would of called a hold over a double. The ball came to a stop. Judgment call.
Not a lift. That would be a double at best my guy.
Thanks for you Vlog brothers!
those hands are fine. Air Bud's looked a little janky but the ball came out very clean.

That set was chowder; good call.
I love your videos, they make me laugh so hard.
Thanks for the new video guys
Would love a video on setting specifics !!
Daaamn, guys, instantly subsribed, hello from Russia!
i didn't catch the red card.. was it from kicking the ball? how did you get to keep playing if you got a red card? isn't that an ejection.
Amazing videos. Thanks

Yea the ball seemed sticky. Maybe lift not double
@@themckibbinbrothers Please make a Video about it ! Greetings from Germany 🤙👌😁
nice videos... been watvhing all your vids
I tried pausing the video to see each frame but it didn’t seem like a double.
So was the red card from kicking the ball? Haha literally was waiting to see it the whole video
guys how can i see the full game against casbeer and fonoimoana??
Moritz Albrecht the video posted before this one is the whole match

The set was clean
OK Guys... when you are coming over to Europe? I mean... otherwise I have to see you in the US ;)

it's a hard lift, not a double. good call by ref
When will you guys play with Micah?
The McKibbin Brothers Micah christenson?
spinning is not a mistake! and that double while setting is a jerk's rule, 'couse nobody can tell was double or not for sure... and can anybody explain what advantage I get setting my partner with double touch? There shouldn't be no double mistake on second touch to partner
Feels bad man. My coach got one for yelling at the bs calls that cost us conference
maybe it might have been called a lift not double
Happy for the call, go listen to Fonoimoana talk crap on the setters in the current lineup, "they're ugly"
Ok, just looked for 20 minutes and cant find. He was in the booth with someone commentating, i thought it was Hermosa AVP, but maybe an earlier event this year
You never be nervous
Chase's set looked a bit sticky to me-calling it on match point is awful though. One things for sure...Fonoimoana would have called it lol
He was on the prime feed with kevin barnett/kelli tennant saying that most of the sets were doubles or lifts....old school baller
I like it, refs need to enforce this stuff rather than letting the players get away with literally everything.
Ball is rotating left to right out of Chad's hands. Hard to see on a screen but it's sadly a double. Sorry Rosie.
Dude I have nothing but love for Rozey but that call was easy to make. Hips uneven Turing with the ball and left hand clearly had contact alone and you never call on spin you call on contact you can see. Sad that the 2nd double Rosenthal ever committed in his life was during this game.
You kinda messed up the sound on this one, but otherwise great video.
And that's why I bump set
you shouldnt do that
It’s funny how two finals in a row ended on a set call
That Running one hand smack🏐 but you lost tho...still an Awesome point! Man, those refs are sooo anal with the handsets. 🖐🖐😂
Good call from the ref
I don't think it was a double, especially not for match point.
And good luck in Manhattan Beach.
I always think 80% of the men's hand-sets are doubles. If your watch indoor women's, they have such smoother, faster sets.
Tiffany Teter indoor and outdoor is different
Tiffany Teter totally different game.

Maybe not a double, but a carry by Rosie for sure.
Are you guys twins 👯
Not a double
Justified call. That was a lift.
2:34 I guess he was just born without body hair.
Right call by ref
NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!
Looks like a double and he held it long. Poor thing. But the one u did at the end was def not a double
a clean kick though xD
Looks cringeworthy for sure, I'd think the call is legit. Looked like his hands didn't move together, so not a clean contact.
I agree. He really "threw" that set to the net imo. Still a lot of refs would probably not have called it in that situation but I think it was an ok call.

100% a double lol
