Your articulate and engaging reviews always leave me eagerly adding several titles to my own reading list. Thank you for sharing your passion for literature and inspiring us to explore new worlds through the pages of these books. Looking forward to your next video and discovering more literary gems!💗✨
Kayla, you are just SO fucking incredible at articulating your thoughts and experience with books in a way that is also super helpful in helping others understand if a book is for them or not!! 12/10 absolutely wonderful ❤
I agree on the extra POVs in Last Night at the Telegraph Club not feeling necessary. Love that you always come up with such creative ways to do your wrap ups!
I read Peach Pit in May too and YES I love when collections have mini author bios & a bit about the story at the start of each story, helps me enjoy the stories so much better!
One I just read that had thise at the end of stories was All These Wonders. Would recommend. It also has a story from the author of one of the books Kyla mentions (A Long Way Gone)
My ears perked up once you mentioned Mind Spread Out On The Ground. I absolutely loved that memoir. Alicia Elliott has a work of fiction coming out later this year.
if you liked deesha philyaw's story you should read her own collection the secret lives of church ladies!! there are some super great ones in there and a really diverse range of perspectives included:) my favourite was how to love a physicist so I'd love to see which ones you like 🥰
Deesha Philyaw wrote one of my favourite short story collections - The Secret Lives of Church Ladies. I highly recommend it if you liked her writing style ❤
I was a kid growing up in california during the satanic panic and it changed how every adult interacted with you. It was weird. Books touching on that weirdness hit different for me I guess? I really enjoyed it. The audio book was stellar. Excited for the live show!
Kayla I just recommended a book to another commenter but I think you’d like it too. All These Wonders is a collection of stories that are transcriptions of stories people told on stage. One of the authors/speakers is the author of A Long Way Gone. It’s a beautiful collection of peoples real stories and I’d definitely recommend it. (It also has a beautiful cover, at least my edition, I live in the US
sad it wasn’t a great reading month for you :( hope June is a better one ❤ I enjoyed your content this month regardless, your videos are always amazing!
Kayla, your vlog introduced me to Dermot Kennedy (whom I had never heard of) and I went and listened to Innocence and Sadness. Long story short, thank you for introducing me to a new favorite artist and now I want to see him in concert. 😭😭
The Salt Grows heavy is not just a horror retelling of the Little Mermaid, but also The Three-Army Surgeons with a dash of Frankenstein, the plot is pretty easy to predict if you know the second tale. I loved the atmosphere and the writing, esp the extra story at the end, but I gave it a 8/10 because I wanted the metaphoric-ness to be less present during fast/action scenes.
Listening to your review of Arsenic and Azaleas reminded me that I just read a book that is also set in Kelowna, and since that seems to be something that tickles your fancy I thought I'd drop the title! It's TJ Powar Has Something to Prove by Jesmeen Kaur Deo. It's a YA contemporary book about a Punjabi high school student who decides to stop removing all of her body hair as a protest against the sexist double standards about beauty (and race, etc.) and I enjoyed it very much. The audiobook was also great. There is also some competition elements, because TJ is a debate student and she's super into it, and we get a lot of great details about how to debate. Very satisfying.
Ah I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy your reading month. It wasn’t too great for me either but my first book of June was pretty good (the house In the cerulean sea) so I’ve got hopes that June will be much better 💚
Oh no....The Wolf and the Woodsman is on my TBR. So is The Last Tale of the Flower Bride. Well, 3-star is not too bad. and 4 is good. Maybe I'll love them.. lol. Sorry you had a bad reading month. Here's to a better reading month in June. I still found some book recs here. So cheers!
I appreciate your review for Wolf and the Woodsman... I also gave it 3 stars. I felt bad for not liking it as much as the rest of the world seemed to! I'm glad I read it so I'm not left wondering though lol
Here is an idea for a future to warp up the star rating of a book that has the amount of pros and cons (why you should/shouldn't be reading this book). For the books you didn't rate (look Basse around the average ratings on Goodreads)
Yeah it's got a pretty high average rating, so a lot of people have been enjoying it for sure! It's still pretty rare for romance to hit for me, so hopefully I'll find some wins as the year continues 🤗
May was not a good reading month for me. It's not our fault, clearly something was going on in the cosmos 😂 I started June with a 4 star though so perhaps things will look up! Good luck!
I didn't think The Wolf and the Woodsman was bad...but I honestly did not understand the hype for it. I agree and wish the book had been a bit more delevoped because I felt like it was sort of disjointed and flat. It had a lot of elements I enjoy so it was a bummer to end up not loving it.
I had a good reading month i had 4 books that were 5 star reads for mi n only one three star read i read 1. Fourth wing Rebecca yarrows 5⭐️stars 2. Happy place 3⭐️ stars 3. Penance by kanae minato 5⭐️ stars 4. Pretty ugly promises by c.w. Farnsworth 5⭐️ stars 5. Legendborn 5⭐️stars N currently im reading Delilah green doesn't care n never lie
@@paperbacksgalore okay okay perfect so SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER WARNING for anyone who stumbles here 👀 So obviously Indigo and Azure have the stolen identity situation going on in the end. I thought this was TOO obvious. There were so many mentions of them looking identical and sharing a soul and whatever..I figured that had to be the reveal. But THEN at like the halfway point they start talking about how Azure had to give up her memories and wanted a fresh start or whatever to fully dedicate herself to Indigo. So at that point I was fully convinced that Azure and the Bridegroom were the same person. Especially since the Bridegroom doesn't have a name. "He" is like a blank slate. And maybe Indigo, like, *continually* does this to Azure. Makes her start over. Keeps messing with her. And every time Indigo wipes her memory, she "meets" Azure over and over again, convinces her to marry her, "never look into my past" etc...but every time, Azure finds out the truth, that they've always known each other, and Indigo is just manipulating her for fun. Maybe it got a little far fetched but I was so bummed when that wasn't the plot lol
“i didn’t feel the joy of reading this month” LMFAO NOT THIS 😭😭
I had the exact same experience in May 😢

May was such a rough reading month for me too, here's to a better June for both of us!
Kayla, you always bring such creativity to your wrap ups and this was no exception. I loved the dual reviews! 🖤🖤
I agree on the extra POVs in Last Night at the Telegraph Club not feeling necessary. Love that you always come up with such creative ways to do your wrap ups!
A Mind Spread Out On The Ground is one of my favorite nonfiction books of all time - incredible collection of essays!
Thank you for the upload! I'm a new mom and work from home, it's like a hang out for when I'm on break lol

omg i loved The Salt Grows Heavy! 5⭐️. I cried at the end
I enjoyed the two reviews at once thing. It was a fun device
you read so many books, not only that but also they are such a nice and smart reada, i love watching your videos, i always find something for me
My ears perked up once you mentioned Mind Spread Out On The Ground. I absolutely loved that memoir. Alicia Elliott has a work of fiction coming out later this year.
This was a fun and interesting way to get through books quickly and to compare ideas within very different books.
if you liked deesha philyaw's story you should read her own collection the secret lives of church ladies!! there are some super great ones in there and a really diverse range of perspectives included:) my favourite was how to love a physicist so I'd love to see which ones you like 🥰
Yay - I had a strong feeling that you would enjoy The Last Tale of the Flower Bride and I'm glad you did!
Does your local public library do an adult summer reading program? I'd love to see you use the prompts to get through some of your TBR if you do.
Deesha Philyaw wrote one of my favourite short story collections - The Secret Lives of Church Ladies. I highly recommend it if you liked her writing style ❤
Thanks for the rec!! 🤗

I’m just loving the binding 13 books
Giving you all the good reading energy for June!
Thank you! I needed to see someone give The World Gives Way 3 stars. Not to diss it. But just to relate to someone on that
Such a creative idea! Love how unique it made your wrap up💘
I love your wrap-ups so much!!
Hi Kayla, Great video! I enjoyed Reluctant Immortals and interviewed the author about the book a few months back.
Currently reading One Hundred Years of Solitude and I am so excited to get further into it
I absolutely loved A Mind Spread Out on the Ground and I’m glad you did too!
Lmao your review of Wolf and the Woodsman was 100% spot on. By the time we got out of the woods I felt like I had whiplash!

Here’s to hoping for more bangers in JUNE!
Giving me flashbacks to my product design crits with this “form over function” wording 😂😂
Whispe down the lane sounds like it could be so good!
I haven’t felt the joy of reading this YEAR!! Hopefully next month is better 😂😅
Kayla, your vlog introduced me to Dermot Kennedy (whom I had never heard of) and I went and listened to Innocence and Sadness. Long story short, thank you for introducing me to a new favorite artist and now I want to see him in concert. 😭😭

I suggest reading the Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder by Joanne Fluke. It’s a start of another cozy mystery series and the main character is fun to read
Ah I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy your reading month. It wasn’t too great for me either but my first book of June was pretty good (the house In the cerulean sea) so I’ve got hopes that June will be much better 💚

I legit thought it was called ‘She Weeds Each Time You’re Born’ and completely accepted that as the title 🥲
This is just Kayla showing off that they can review two books at the same time and is just the monarch of Booktube!
I appreciate your review for Wolf and the Woodsman... I also gave it 3 stars. I felt bad for not liking it as much as the rest of the world seemed to! I'm glad I read it so I'm not left wondering though lol
May was rough for me too, I DNFed 13 books and completely finished 6 books, but most were 3 stars for me 😭
Awesome reading month! Can’t wait to get to reluctant immortals 😍
I laughed when you said you want to pick up 5 books from now novels by Cate Holland. Her Three Lives sounds like it could have been a blast.
Hi Kayla, The Two Doctors Górski is a strange little book you might like. :)
Hello from British Columbia Canada
🇨🇦🖐👍♥️🌳🚐🌳🌲🛣🚐🖼🖌🎨🥓
may was kinda rough for me, too. only one 5 star

I really liked Funny Feelings. I thought it was a really unique storyline.

Early yess! Been waiting for this ❤️
I was so excited for Bad Cree, but it was a DNF for me :( I just couldn't get into the writing style.
Wait I wanna know the twist you wanted in the last tale of the flower bride
Have you read it ? 💕
@@BooksandLala yes! It wasn’t necessarily for me but parts of it were fascinating
